VULGATANEW JERUSALEM
1 In anno primo Cyri regis Persarum, ut compleretur verbum Domini ex ore Jeremiæ, suscitavit Dominus spiritum Cyri regis Persarum : et traduxit vocem in omni regno suo, etiam per scripturam, dicens :1 In the first year of Cyrus king of Persia -- to fulfil the word of Yahweh spoken through Jeremiah -Yahwehroused the spirit of Cyrus king of Persia to issue a proclamation and to have it publicly displayed throughout hiskingdom:
2 Hæc dicit Cyrus rex Persarum : Omnia regna terræ dedit mihi Dominus Deus cæli, et ipse præcepit mihi ut ædificarem ei domum in Jerusalem, quæ est in Judæa.2 'Cyrus king of Persia says this, "Yahweh, the God of heaven, has given me all the kingdoms of the earthand has appointed me to build him a Temple in Jerusalem, in Judah.
3 Quis est in vobis de universo populo ejus ? Sit Deus illius cum ipso. Ascendat in Jerusalem, quæ est in Judæa, et ædificet domum Domini Dei Israël : ipse est Deus qui est in Jerusalem.3 Whoever among you belongs to the ful tal y of his people, may his God be with him! Let him go up toJerusalem, in Judah, and build the Temple of Yahweh, God of Israel, who is the God in Jerusalem.
4 Et omnes reliqui in cunctis locis ubicumque habitant, adjuvent eum viri de loco suo argento et auro, et substantia, et pecoribus, excepto quod voluntarie offerunt templo Dei, quod est in Jerusalem.
4 And let each survivor, wherever he lives, be helped by the people of his locality with silver, gold,equipment and riding beasts, as wel as voluntary offerings for the Temple of God which is in Jerusalem." '
5 Et surrexerunt principes patrum de Juda et Benjamin, et sacerdotes, et Levitæ, et omnis cujus Deus suscitavit spiritum, ut ascenderent ad ædificandum templum Domini, quod erat in Jerusalem.5 Then the heads of families of Judah and of Benjamin, the priests and the Levites, in fact al whose spirithad been roused by God, prepared to go and rebuild the Temple of Yahweh in Jerusalem;
6 Universique qui erant in circuitu, adjuverunt manus eorum in vasis argenteis et aureis, in substantia et jumentis, in supellectili, exceptis his quæ sponte obtulerant.6 and al their neighbours gave them every kind of help: silver, gold, equipment, riding beasts andvaluable presents, in addition to their voluntary offerings.
7 Rex quoque Cyrus protulit vasa templi Domini, quæ tulerat Nabuchodonosor de Jerusalem, et posuerat ea in templo dei sui.7 Furthermore, King Cyrus handed over the articles belonging to the Temple of Yahweh whichNebuchadnezzar had carried away from Jerusalem and put in the temple of his god.
8 Protulit autem ea Cyrus rex Persarum per manum Mithridatis filii Gazabar, et annumeravit ea Sassabasar principi Juda.8 Cyrus king of Persia handed them over to Mithredath the treasurer who checked them out toSheshbazzar the prince of Judah.
9 Et hic est numerus eorum : phialæ aureæ triginta, phialæ argenteæ mille, cultri viginti novem, scyphi aurei triginta,9 The inventory was as fol ows: thirty gold dishes; one thousand silver dishes, twenty-nine repaired;
10 scyphi argentei secundi quadringenti decem, vasa alia mille.10 thirty gold bowls; a thousand silver bowls, four hundred and ten damaged; one thousand other articles.
11 Omnia vasa aurea et argentea quinque millia quadringenta : universa tulit Sassabasar cum his qui ascendebant de transmigratione Babylonis in Jerusalem.11 In al , five thousand four hundred articles of gold and silver. Sheshbazzar took al these with him whenhe led the exiles back from Babylon to Jerusalem.
