VULGATA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Fecit quoque sibi domos in civitate David : et ædificavit locum arcæ Dei, tetenditque ei tabernaculum.	1 After he had put up buildings for himself in the City of David, he prepared a place for the ark of Godand pitched a tent for it.
2 Tunc dixit David : Illicitum est ut a quocumque portetur arca Dei nisi a Levitis, quos elegit Dominus ad portandum eam, et ad ministrandum sibi usque in æternum.	2 David then said, 'No one but the Levites should carry the ark of God, since Yahweh has chosen themto carry the ark of Yahweh and to minister to him for ever.'
3 Congregavitque universum Israël in Jerusalem, ut afferretur arca Dei in locum suum, quem præparaverat ei :	3 David then summoned al Israel to Jerusalem, to move the ark of Yahweh to the place which he hadprepared for it.
4 necnon et filios Aaron, et Levitas.	4 David also cal ed the sons of Aaron and the Levites together:
5 De filiis Caath, Uriel princeps fuit, et fratres ejus centum viginti.	5 of the sons of Kohath: Uriel the chief and his hundred and twenty kinsmen;
6 De filiis Merari, Asaia princeps : et fratres ejus ducenti viginti.	6 of the sons of Merari: Asaiah the chief and his two hundred and twenty kinsmen;
7 De filiis Gersom, Joël princeps : et fratres ejus centum triginta.	7 of the sons of Gershom: Joel the chief and his hundred and thirty kinsmen;
8 De filiis Elisaphan, Semeias princeps : et fratres ejus ducenti.	8 of the sons of Elizaphan: Shemaiah the chief and his two hundred kinsmen;
9 De filiis Hebron, Eliel princeps : et fratres ejus octoginta.	9 of the sons of Hebron: Eliel the chief and eighty kinsmen;
10 De filiis Oziel, Aminadab princeps : et fratres ejus centum duodecim.	10 of the sons of Uzziel: Amminadab the chief and his hundred and twelve kinsmen.
11 Vocavitque David Sadoc et Abiathar sacerdotes, et Levitas, Uriel, Asaiam, Joël, Semeiam, Eliel, et Aminadab :	11 David then sent for the priests Zadok and Abiathar, and the Levites Uriel, Asaiah, Joel, Shemaiah,Eliel and Amminadab.
12 et dixit ad eos : Vos, qui estis principes familiarum Leviticarum, sanctificamini cum fratribus vestris, et afferte arcam Domini Dei Israël ad locum qui ei præparatus est :	12 To them he said, 'You are the heads of the levitical families. Sanctify yourselves, you and yourkinsmen, so that you can move the ark of Yahweh, God of Israel, to the place which I have prepared for it.
13 ne ut a principio, quia non eratis præsentes, percussit nos Dominus ; sic et nunc fiat, illicitum quid nobis agentibus.	13 Because you were not there the first time, Yahweh our God broke out at us because we did nothandle it properly.'
14 Sanctificati sunt ergo sacerdotes et Levitæ ut portarent arcam Domini Dei Israël.	14 So the priests and the Levites sanctified themselves, to move the ark of Yahweh, God of Israel,
15 Et tulerunt filii Levi arcam Dei, sicut præceperat Moyses juxta verbum Domini, humeris suis in vectibus.	15 and the Levites carried the ark of God with the shafts on their shoulders, as Moses had ordered inaccordance with the word of Yahweh.
16 Dixitque David principibus Levitarum, ut constituerent de fratribus suis cantores in organis musicorum, nablis videlicet, et lyris, et cymbalis, ut resonaret in excelsis sonitus lætitiæ.	16 David also told the heads of the Levites to appoint their kinsmen as singers with the accompanimentof musical instruments, lyres, harps, and cymbals to play joyful y.
17 Constitueruntque Levitas : Heman filium Joël, et de fratribus ejus Asaph filium Barachiæ : de filiis vero Merari, fratribus eorum : Ethan filium Casaiæ.	17 The Levites then appointed Heman son of Joel, Asaph son of Berechiah, one of his brothers, Ethanson of Kushaiah, one of their Merarite kinsmen;
18 Et cum eis fratres eorum : in secundo ordine, Zachariam, et Ben, et Jaziel, et Semiramoth, et Jahiel, et Ani, Eliab, et Banaiam, et Maasiam, et Mathathiam, et Eliphalu, et Maceniam, et Obededom, et Jehiel, janitores.	18 and with them their kinsmen of the second rank: Zechariah, Uzziel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Unni, Eliab,Benaiah, Maaseiah, Mattithiah, Eliphelehu, Mikneiah, and Obed-Edom and Jehiel the gatekeepers.
19 Porro cantores, Heman, Asaph, et Ethan, in cymbalis æneis concrepantes.	19 The singers, Heman, Asaph and Ethan, were to play the bronze cymbals.
20 Zacharias autem, et Oziel, et Semiramoth, et Jahiel, et Ani, et Eliab, et Maasias, et Banaias in nablis arcana cantabant.	20 Zechariah, Uzziel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Unni, Eliab, Maaseiah and Benaiah were to play the lyre.
21 Porro Mathathias, et Eliphalu, et Macenias, et Obededom, et Jehiel, et Ozaziu, in citharis pro octava canebant epinicion.	21 Mattithiah, Eliphelehu, Mikneiah, Obed-Edom, Jehiel and Azaziah, giving the beat, were to play theharp.
22 Chonenias autem princeps Levitarum, prophetiæ præerat, ad præcinendam melodiam : erat quippe valde sapiens.	22 Chenaniah, the levitical director of transport was in charge of the transport, being skilful at it.
23 Et Barachias, et Elcana, janitores arcæ.	23 Berechiah and Elkanah were gatekeepers for the ark.
24 Porro Sebenias, et Josaphat, et Nathanaël, et Amasai, et Zacharias, et Banaias, et Eliezer sacerdotes, clangebant tubis coram arca Dei : et Obededom et Jehias erant janitores arcæ.	24 The priests Shebaniah, Joshaphat, Nethanel, Amasai, Zechariah, Benaiah and Eliezer blew trumpetsbefore the ark of God, while Obed-Edom and Jehiah were also gatekeepers for the ark.
25 Igitur David, et omnes majores natu Israël, et tribuni, ierunt ad deportandam arcam fœderis Domini de domo Obededom cum lætitia.	25 David, the elders of Israel and the commanders of the thousands accordingly went, amid greatrejoicing, to bring the ark of the covenant of Yahweh up from Obed-Edom's house,
26 Cumque adjuvisset Deus Levitas qui portabant arcam fœderis Domini, immolabantur septem tauri, et septem arietes.	26 and since God was helping the Levites who carried the ark of the covenant of Yahweh, theysacrificed seven bul s and seven rams.
27 Porro David erat indutus stola byssina, et universi Levitæ qui portabant arcam, cantoresque, et Chonenias princeps prophetiæ inter cantores : David autem etiam indutus erat ephod lineo.	27 David, al the Levites who carried the ark, the singers and Chenaniah, director of transport, worecloaks of fine linen. David also wore a linen ephod.
28 Universusque Israël deducebant arcam fœderis Domini in jubilo, et sonitu buccinæ, et tubis, et cymbalis, et nablis, et citharis concrepantes.	28 Thus, with war-cries and the sounding of the horn, the trumpets and the cymbals, and the music oflyres and harps, al Israel transported the ark of the covenant of Yahweh.
29 Cumque pervenisset arca fœderis Domini usque ad civitatem David, Michol filia Saul prospiciens per fenestram vidit regem David saltantem atque ludentem, et despexit eum in corde suo.	29 Now, as the ark of the covenant of Yahweh entered the City of David, Michal daughter of Saul waswatching from the window and, when she saw King David dancing and playing, the sight of him filled her withcontempt.
