1 Athalia vero mater Ochoziæ, videns mortuum filium suum, surrexit, et interfecit omne semen regium.	1 When Athaliah mother of Ahaziah learned that her son was dead, she promptly murdered al those ofroyal stock.
2 Tollens autem Josaba filia regis Joram, soror Ochoziæ, Joas filium Ochoziæ, furata est eum de medio filiorum regis qui interficiebantur, et nutricem ejus de triclinio : et abscondit eum a facie Athaliæ ut non interficeretur.	2 But Jehosheba, daughter of King Jehoram and sister of Ahaziah, surreptitiously rescued Jehoash sonof Ahaziah from among the princes who were to be murdered, and put him with his nurse in the sleepingquarters; in this way she hid him from Athaliah, and he was not killed.
3 Eratque cum ea sex annis clam in domo Domini : porro Athalia regnavit super terram.	3 He stayed, hidden with her in the Temple of Yahweh for six years, while Athaliah governed the country.
4 Anno autem septimo misit Jojada, et assumens centuriones et milites, introduxit ad se in templum Domini, pepigitque cum eis fœdus : et adjurans eos in domo Domini, ostendit eis filium regis :	4 In the seventh year, Jehoiada sent for the regimental commanders of the Carians and the guards, andhad them brought to him in the Temple of Yahweh. He made a pact with them, put them on oath, then showedthem the king's son. He gave them this order,
5 et præcepit illis, dicens : Iste est sermo, quem facere debetis :	5 'This is what you must do: a third of you who come on duty on the Sabbath must mount guard at theroyal palace,
6 tertia pars vestrum introëat sabbato, et observet excubias domus regis. Tertia autem pars sit ad portam Sur, et tertia pars sit ad portam quæ est post habitaculum scutariorum : et custodietis excubias domus Messa.	6 ,
7 Duæ vero partes e vobis, omnes egredientes sabbato, custodiant excubias domus Domini circa regem.	7 and your two other sections who come off duty on the Sabbath and mount guard at the Temple ofYahweh
8 Et vallabitis eum, habentes arma in manibus vestris : si quis autem ingressus fuerit septum templi, interficiatur : eritisque cum rege introëunte et egrediente.	8 must surround the king, each man with his weapons in his hand; anyone forcing his way through theranks is to be kil ed. And you wil escort the king as he leaves and as he comes in.'
9 Et fecerunt centuriones juxta omnia quæ præceperat eis Jojada sacerdos : et assumentes singuli viros suos qui ingrediebantur sabbatum, cum his qui egrediebantur sabbato, venerunt ad Jojadam sacerdotem.	9 The regimental commanders did everything as Jehoiada the priest had ordered, and each one broughthis men, those coming on duty on the Sabbath and those going off duty on the Sabbath, and reported toJehoiada the priest.
10 Qui dedit eis hastas et arma regis David, quæ erant in domo Domini.	10 The priest then issued the regimental commanders with King David's spears and shields, which werekept in the Temple of Yahweh.
11 Et steterunt singuli habentes arma in manu sua, a parte templi dextera usque ad partem sinistram altaris et ædis, circum regem.	11 The guards then took position, each man with his weapons in his hand, from the south corner of theTemple to the north corner of the Temple, al round the altar and the Temple.
12 Produxitque filium regis, et posuit super eum diadema et testimonium : feceruntque eum regem, et unxerunt : et plaudentes manu, dixerunt : Vivat rex.	12 Then Jehoiada brought the king's son out -- crowned him and gave him a copy of the covenant; andthey made him king and anointed him, and they clapped their hands and shouted, 'Long live the king!'
13 Audivit autem Athalia vocem populi currentis : et ingressa ad turbas in templum Domini,	13 On hearing the people shouting, Athaliah joined the people in the Temple of Yahweh.
14 vidit regem stantem super tribunal juxta morem, et cantores, et tubas prope eum, omnemque populum terræ lætantem, et canentem tubis : et scidit vestimenta sua, clamavitque : Conjuratio, conjuratio.	14 When she looked, there stood the king on a dais, as the custom was, with the officers and trumpetersat the king's side, and all the people of the country rejoicing and blowing the trumpets; then Athaliah tore herclothes and shouted, 'Treason, treason!'
15 Præcepit autem Jojada centurionibus qui erant super exercitum, et ait eis : Educite eam extra septa templi, et quicumque eam secutus fuerit, feriatur gladio. Dixerat enim sacerdos : Non occidatur in templo Domini.	15 Jehoiada the priest then gave the orders to the commanders in charge of the troops, 'Take her outunder guard and put to death anyone who follows her.' 'For', the priest had already said, 'she must not be killedinside the Temple of Yahweh.'
16 Imposueruntque ei manus, et impegerunt eam per viam introitus equorum, juxta palatium, et interfecta est ibi.	16 They seized her, and when she reached the horses' entry to the palace, she was kil ed there.
17 Pepigit ergo Jojada fœdus inter Dominum, et inter regem, et inter populum, ut esset populus Domini : et inter regem et populum.	17 Jehoiada made a covenant between Yahweh, the king and the people that they would remainYahweh's people; and another one between the king and the people.
18 Ingressusque est omnis populus terræ templum Baal, et destruxerunt aras ejus, et imagines contriverunt valide : Mathan quoque sacerdotem Baal occiderunt coram altari. Et posuit sacerdos custodias in domo Domini.	18 Al the people of the country then went to the temple of Baal and demolished it; they smashed itsaltars and its images and kil ed Mattan the priest of Baal in front of the altars. The priest made arrangements forthe security of the Temple of Yahweh.
19 Tulitque centuriones, et Cerethi et Phelethi legiones, et omnem populum terræ, deduxeruntque regem de domo Domini : et venerunt per viam portæ scutariorum in palatium, et sedit super thronum regum.	19 He then took the regimental commanders, the Carians, the guards and al the people of the country,and they escorted the king down from the Temple of Yahweh, entering the palace through the Gate of theGuards. Jehoash took his seat on the throne of the kings.
20 Lætatusque est omnis populus terræ, et civitas conquievit : Athalia autem occisa est gladio in domo regis.	20 Al the people of the country were delighted; the city, however, made no move. And Athaliah was putto death inside the palace.
21 Septemque annorum erat Joas, cum regnare cœpisset.
