1 Intanto i Filistei ingaggiarono battaglia contro Israele e gli uomini d'Israele si dettero alla fuga di fronte ai Filistei e caddero trafitti sul monte Gelboe.	1 Now the Philistines were fighting against Israel. And the men of Israel fled before the face of the Philistines, and they fell down slain on mount Gilboa.
2 I Filistei si gettarono addosso a Saul e ai suoi figli, così colpirono Gionata, Abinadàb e Malkisuà, figli di Saul.	2 And the Philistines rushed upon Saul, and upon his sons, and they struck down Jonathan, and Abinadab, and Malchishua, the sons of Saul.
3 La battaglia si aggravò contro Saul; gli arcieri lo presero di mira con gli archi ed egli fu ferito dagli arcieri.	3 And the entire weight of the battle was turned against Saul. And the men who were archers pursued him. And he was severely wounded by the archers.
4 Allora Saul disse al suo scudiero: "Sfodera la tua spada e trafiggimi con essa, affinché non vengano quegli incirconcisi, mi trafiggano e facciano sevizie su di me". Ma il suo scudiero non volle perché era pieno di timore. Allora Saul prese la spada e si gettò su di essa.	4 Then Saul said to his armor bearer, “Draw your sword and strike me, otherwise these uncircumcised may come and kill me, mocking me.” And his armor bearer was not willing. For he had been struck with an exceedingly great fear. And so, Saul took his own sword, and he fell upon it.
5 Quando lo scudiero vide che Saul era morto, anch'egli si gettò sulla propria spada e morì con lui.	5 And when his armor bearer had seen this, namely, that Saul had died, he too fell upon his sword, and he died with him.
6 In quel giorno morirono insieme Saul, i suoi tre figli, il suo scudiero e tutti i suoi uomini.	6 Therefore, Saul died, and his three sons, and his armor bearer, and all his men, on the same day together.
7 Quando gl'Israeliti che erano di là della valle e quelli che erano di là del Giordano videro che gli uomini d'Israele erano fuggiti e che Saul e i suoi figli erano morti, abbandonarono le città e fuggirono. Allora vennero i Filistei e vi si stabilirono.	7 Then, seeing that the men of the Israelites had fled, and that Saul had died with his sons, the men of Israel who were across the valley or beyond the Jordan abandoned their cities, and they fled. And the Philistines went and lived there.
8 Il giorno seguente i Filistei andarono a spogliare gli uccisi e trovarono Saul e i suoi tre figli caduti sul monte Gelboe.	8 Then, when the next day arrived, the Philistines came, so that they might despoil the slain. And they found Saul and his three sons lying on mount Gilboa.
9 Essi troncarono la testa di lui e lo spogliarono delle armi, poi mandarono in giro nel paese dei Filistei a dare la bella notizia nel tempio dei loro idoli e al popolo.	9 And they cut off the head of Saul. And they despoiled him of the armor, and they sent it into the land of the Philistines all around, so that it might be announced in the temples of the idols and among their people.
10 Deposero le sue armi nel tempio di Astarte, mentre il suo cadavere lo affissero alle mura di Bet-Sean.	10 And they placed his armor in the temple of Ashtaroth. But his body they suspended on the wall of Bethshan.
11 Gli abitanti di Iabes di Gàlaad udirono quello che i Filistei avevano fatto a Saul;	11 And when the inhabitants of Jabesh Gilead had heard all that the Philistines had done to Saul,
12 allora si alzarono tutti gli uomini valorosi e, dopo aver viaggiato tutta la notte, presero il corpo di Saul e i corpi dei suoi figli dalle mura di Bet-Sean; ritornarono a Iabes, dove li bruciarono.	12 all the most valiant men rose up, and they walked all night, and they took the body of Saul and the bodies of his sons from the wall of Bethshan. And they went to Jabesh Gilead, and they burned them there.
13 Poi, prese le loro ossa, le seppellirono sotto il tamarisco a Iabes e fecero digiuno per sette giorni.	13 And they took their bones, and they buried them in the forest of Jabesh. And they fasted for seven days.
