Lettera ai Romani 14

1 Accogliete amichevolmente chi è debole nella fede, senza mettervi a discutere i suoi pensieri.	1 But accept those who are weak in faith, without disputing about ideas.
2 Chi crede pienamente, pensa di poter mangiare di tutto; colui invece che è debole nella fede mangia solo legumi.	2 For one person believes that he may eat all things, but if another is weak, let him eat plants.
3 Chi mangia non disprezzi chi non mangia, chi non mangia non condanni chi mangia: Dio infatti lo ha accolto amichevolmente.	3 He who eats should not despise him who does not eat. And he who does not eat should not judge him who eats. For God has accepted him.
4 E chi sei tu che giudichi un domestico altrui? Che stia in piedi o cada, riguarda il suo padrone: e starà in piedi, poiché il Signore ha la forza di sostenerlo.	4 Who are you to judge the servant of another? He stands or falls by his own Lord. But he shall stand. For God is able to make him stand.
5 C'è chi ritiene un giorno differente dall'altro, c'è chi ritiene uguale ogni giorno: ciascuno approfondisca le proprie convinzioni.	5 For one person discerns one age from the next. But another discerns unto every age. Let each one increase according to his own mind.
6 Chi si dà pensiero del giorno, si dà pensiero per il Signore; chi mangia, lo fa per il Signore, poiché rende grazie a Dio; e anche chi non mangia, non mangia per il Signore e rende grazie a Dio.	6 He who understands the age, understands for the Lord. And he who eats, eats for the Lord; for he gives thanks to God. And he who does not eat, does not eat for the Lord, and he gives thanks to God.
7 In effetti nessuno di noi vive per se stesso, né muore per se stesso.	7 For none of us lives for himself, and none of us dies for himself.
8 Se viviamo, viviamo per il Signore; se moriamo, moriamo per il Signore: quindi sia che viviamo, sia che moriamo, siamo sempre del Signore;	8 For if we live, we live for the Lord, and if we die, we die for the Lord. Therefore, whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord.
9 per questo, infatti, Cristo morì e visse, per esercitare il suo dominio sui morti e sui vivi;	9 For Christ died and rose again for this purpose: that he might be the ruler of both the dead and the living.
10 ma tu, perché giudichi il tuo fratello? O perché disprezzi il tuo fratello? Tutti infatti saremo presentati al tribunale di Dio.	10 So then, why do you judge your brother? Or why do you despise your brother? For we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ.
11 Sta scritto infatti: Io vivo, dice il Signore: davanti a me si piegherà ogni ginocchio, e ogni lingua riconoscerà Dio.	11 For it is written: “As I live, says the Lord, every knee shall bend to me, and every tongue shall confess to God.”
12 E allora ciascuno di noi renderà conto a Dio per se stesso.	12 And so, each one of us shall offer an explanation of himself to God.
13 Non giudichiamoci gli uni gli altri; piuttosto datevi pensiero di una cosa: di non porre al fratello inciampo o scandalo.	13 Therefore, we should no longer judge one another. Instead, judge this to a greater extent: that you should not place an obstacle before your brother, nor lead him astray.
14 So con certezza, e ne sono persuaso nel Signore Gesù, che niente è impuro di per se stesso; se non che, per chi giudica che una cosa è impura, per lui lo è.	14 I know, with confidence in the Lord Jesus, that nothing is unclean in and of itself. But to him who considers anything to be unclean, it is unclean to him.
15 Perciò se tuo fratello è addolorato a causa del cibo, tu non ti comporti più secondo l'amore. Non mandare in rovina per il tuo cibo colui per il quale Cristo è morto.	15 For if your brother is grieved because of your food, you are not now walking according to love. Do not allow your food to destroy him for whom Christ died.
16 Non sia dunque denigrato ciò che per voi è bene:	16 Therefore, what is good for us should not be a cause of blasphemy.
17 il regno di Dio, infatti, non è cibo o bevanda, ma giustificazione e pace e gioia nello Spirito Santo.	17 For the kingdom of God is not food and drink, but rather justice and peace and joy, in the Holy Spirit.
18 Chi serve a Cristo in queste cose, è gradito a Dio e accetto agli uomini.	18 For he who serves Christ in this, pleases God and is proven before men.
19 Perciò diamoci da fare per le cose riguardanti la pace e l'edificazione reciproca.	19 And so, let us pursue the things that are of peace, and let us keep to the things that are for the edification of one another.
20 Non distruggere, a causa di un cibo, l'opera di Dio! Tutto è puro, ma è male per chi mangia dando scandalo.	20 Do not be willing to destroy the work of God because of food. Certainly, all things are clean. But there is harm for a man who offends by eating.
21 Perciò è bene non mangiare carne né bere vino né fare alcunché per cui il tuo fratello possa prendere occasione d'inciampo.	21 It is good to refrain from eating meat and from drinking wine, and from anything by which your brother is offended, or led astray, or weakened.
22 Hai la fede: conservala in te stesso davanti a Dio. Beato chi non condanna se stesso in ciò che ha deciso di fare.	22 Do you have faith? It belongs to you, so hold it before God. Blessed is he who does not judge himself in that by which he is tested.
23 Chi invece dubita, se mangia è già condannato, poiché fa ciò non guidato dalla fede: ora tutto ciò che non viene dalla fede è peccato.	23 But he who discerns, if he eats, is condemned, because it is not of faith. For all that is not of faith is sin.
