1 Ora il popolo mormorava male agli orecchi del Signore. Il Signore sentì e la sua ira divampò: il fuoco del Signore si accese contro di loro e divorò l'estremità dell'accampamento.	1 Now the people complained in the hearing of the LORD; and when he heard it his wrath flared up so that the fire of the LORD burned among them and consumed the outskirts of the camp.
2 Il popolo gridò a Mosè; Mosè intercedette presso il Signore e il fuoco si spense.	2 But when the people cried out to Moses, he prayed to the LORD and the fire died out.
3 Il nome di quel luogo si chiamò Tabera, perché il fuoco del Signore si era acceso contro di loro.	3 Hence that place was called Taberah, because there the fire of the LORD burned among them.
4 La gente raccogliticcia che stava in mezzo a loro ebbe un grande appetito, e anche i figli d'Israele ripresero a piangere e dicevano: "Chi ci darà carne da mangiare?	4 The foreign elements among them were so greedy for meat that even the Israelites lamented again, "Would that we had meat for food!
5 Ci viene in mente il pesce che mangiavamo in Egitto per niente, i cocomeri, i meloni, la verdura, cipolle e agli;	5 We remember the fish we used to eat without cost in Egypt, and the cucumbers, the melons, the leeks, the onions, and the garlic.
6 ora stiamo languendo: non c'è che manna davanti ai nostri occhi".	6 But now we are famished; we see nothing before us but this manna."
7 La manna era come un seme di coriandolo, esteriormente simile al bdellio.	7 Manna was like coriander seed and had the appearance of bdellium.
8 Il popolo andava in giro a cercare, la raccoglieva, la tritava nelle macine o la pestava nel mortaio, la cuoceva in pentola e ne faceva focacce: il suo gusto era come gusto di pane all'olio.	8 When they had gone about and gathered it up, the people would grind it between millstones or pound it in a mortar, then cook it in a pot and make it into loaves, which tasted like cakes made with oil.
9 Quando la rugiada scendeva sull'accampamento di notte, anche la manna vi scendeva.	9 At night, when the dew fell upon the camp, the manna also fell.
10 Mosè sentì il popolo che piangeva, in tutte le loro famiglie, ognuno all'entrata della propria tenda; l'ira del Signore divampò e Mosè ne ebbe male.	10 When Moses heard the people, family after family, crying at the entrance of their tents, so that the LORD became very angry, he was grieved.
11 Mosè disse al Signore: "Perché hai fatto del male al tuo servo e perché non ho trovato grazia ai tuoi occhi, da porre il peso di tutto questo popolo su di me?	11 "Why do you treat your servant so badly?" Moses asked the LORD. "Why are you so displeased with me that you burden me with all this people?
12 Sono forse io che ho concepito tutto questo popolo o io che l'ho generato, da dirmi: "Portalo nel tuo seno", come la balia porta il lattante, fino al paese che hai promesso con giuramento ai loro padri?	12 Was it I who conceived all this people? or was it I who gave them birth, that you tell me to carry them at my bosom, like a foster father carrying an infant, to the land you have promised under oath to their fathers?
13 Da dove avrei carne da dare a tutto questo popolo? Giacché piange verso di me dicendo: "Dacci carne da mangiare!".	13 Where can I get meat to give to all this people? For they are crying to me, 'Give us meat for our food.'
14 Non posso da solo portare tutto questo popolo, perché è troppo pesante per me.	14 I cannot carry all this people by myself, for they are too heavy for me.
15 Se mi devi trattare così, piuttosto fammi morire, se ho trovato grazia ai tuoi occhi, e non veda più il mio male".	15 If this is the way you will deal with me, then please do me the favor of killing me at once, so that I need no longer face this distress."
16 Il Signore disse a Mosè: "Radunami settanta uomini tra gli anziani d'Israele, che tu sai essere anziani del popolo e suoi scribi: li condurrai alla tenda del convegno e vi staranno con te.	16 Then the LORD said to Moses, "Assemble for me seventy of the elders of Israel, men you know for true elders and authorities among the people, and bring them to the meeting tent. When they are in place beside you,
17 Io scenderò e là parlerò con te: trarrò dello spirito che è su di te e lo porrò su di loro. Porteranno così con te il peso del popolo e non lo porterai da solo.	17 I will come down and speak with you there. I will also take some of the spirit that is on you and will bestow it on them, that they may share the burden of the people with you. You will then not have to bear it by yourself.
18 Al popolo dirai: "Santificatevi per domani e mangerete carne, perché avete pianto alle orecchie del Signore, dicendo: chi ci darà carne da mangiare? In Egitto stavamo bene!". Il Signore vi darà carne e mangerete.	18 "To the people, however, you shall say: Sanctify yourselves for tomorrow, when you shall have meat to eat. For in the hearing of the LORD you have cried, 'Would that we had meat for food! Oh, how well off we were in Egypt!' Therefore the LORD will give you meat for food,
19 Non un giorno solo ne mangerete, né due giorni, né cinque giorni né dieci giorni né venti giorni,	19 and you will eat it, not for one day, or two days, or five, or ten, or twenty days,
20 ma fino a un mese, fino a quando vi esca dalle narici e vi sia di nausea: per il fatto che avete rigettato il Signore che è in mezzo a voi e avete pianto davanti a me dicendo: "Perché siamo usciti dall'Egitto?".	20 but for a whole month-until it comes out of your very nostrils and becomes loathsome to you. For you have spurned the LORD who is in your midst, and in his presence you have wailed, 'Why did we ever leave Egypt?'"
21 Mosè disse: "Il popolo conta 600.000 adulti e tu dici: "Darò loro carne e mangeranno per un mese"!	21 But Moses said, "The people around me include six hundred thousand soldiers; yet you say, 'I will give them meat to eat for a whole month.'
22 Si ammazzerà per loro del piccolo e grosso armento o si raduneranno per loro tutti i pesci del mare affinché ne abbiano abbastanza?".	22 Can enough sheep and cattle be slaughtered for them? If all the fish of the sea were caught for them, would they have enough?"
23 Il Signore rispose a Mosè: "E' forse corta la mano del Signore? Ora vedrai se la mia parola si compirà o no".	23 The LORD answered Moses, "Is this beyond the LORD'S reach? You shall see now whether or not what I have promised you takes place."
24 Mosè uscì e disse al popolo le parole del Signore. Radunò settanta uomini tra gli anziani del popolo e li fece stare intorno alla tenda.	24 So Moses went out and told the people what the LORD had said. Gathering seventy elders of the people, he had them stand around the tent.
25 Il Signore scese nella nuvola e gli parlò: trasse dello spirito che era su di lui e lo diede ai settanta uomini anziani. Quando lo spirito si posò su di loro cominciarono a profetare, ma non continuarono.	25 The LORD then came down in the cloud and spoke to him. Taking some of the spirit that was on Moses, he bestowed it on the seventy elders; and as the spirit came to rest on them, they prophesied.
26 Ma due uomini erano rimasti nell'accampamento: uno si chiamava Eldad, il secondo Medad. Lo spirito si posò su di loro: erano tra gli iscritti, ma non erano usciti per andare alla tenda; e cominciarono a profetare nell'accampamento.	26 Now two men, one named Eldad and the other Medad, were not in the gathering but had been left in the camp. They too had been on the list, but had not gone out to the tent; yet the spirit came to rest on them also, and they prophesied in the camp.
27 Un ragazzo corse e lo annunciò a Mosè e disse: "Eldad e Medad stanno profetando nell'accampamento".	27 So, when a young man quickly told Moses, "Eldad and Medad are prophesying in the camp,"
28 Giosuè, figlio di Nun, aiutante di Mosè dalla sua adolescenza, disse: "Mosè, signor mio, impedisciglielo".	28 Joshua, son of Nun, who from his youth had been Moses' aide, said, "Moses, my lord, stop them."
29 Mosè gli disse: "Sei forse geloso per me? Chi può dare dei profeti a tutto il popolo del Signore? E' il Signore che dà a loro il suo spirito".	29 But Moses answered him, "Are you jealous for my sake? Would that all the people of the LORD were prophets! Would that the LORD might bestow his spirit on them all!"
30 Mosè si ritirò nell'accampamento, con gli anziani d'Israele.	30 Then Moses retired to the camp, along with the elders of Israel.
31 Si alzò un vento per ordine del Signore, portò quaglie dal mare e le fece cadere presso l'accampamento, per il cammino di un giorno da una parte, e il cammino di un giorno dall'altra, intorno all'accampamento, ad un'altezza di due cubiti sulla superficie del suolo.	31 There arose a wind sent by the LORD, that drove in quail from the sea and brought them down over the camp site at a height of two cubits from the ground for the distance of a day's journey all around the camp.
32 Il popolo fu in piedi tutto quel giorno, tutta la notte e tutto il giorno seguente raccolsero le quaglie. Chi ne raccolse meno, ne raccolse dieci comer: le stesero intorno all'accampamento.	32 All that day, all night, and all the next day the people gathered in the quail. Even the one who got the least gathered ten homers of them. Then they spread them out all around the camp.
33 La carne era ancora tra i loro denti, prima di essere masticata, che l'ira del Signore divampò sul popolo, e il Signore colpì il popolo con una gravissima piaga.	33 But while the meat was still between their teeth, before it could be consumed, the LORD'S wrath flared up against the people, and he struck them with a very great plague.
34 Quel luogo si chiamò Kibrot-Taavà, perché là seppellirono il popolo che s'era lasciato dominare dall'ingordigia.	34 So that place was named Kibroth-hattaavah, because it was there that the greedy people were buried.
35 Da Kibrot-Taavà il popolo partì per Cazerot. E sostò in Cazerot.	35 From Kibroth-hattaavah the people set out for Hazeroth.
