1 Allora Zofar il naamatita prese la parola e disse:	1 And Zophar the Naamathite spoke out and said:
2 "Una tale quantità di parole resterà senza risposta? Dovrà forse aver ragione il ciarlatano?	2 Should not the man of many words be answered, or must the garrulous man necessarily be right?
3 I tuoi sproloqui faranno tacere la gente, ti farai beffe senza che nessuno ti confonda?	3 Shall your babblings keep men silent, and shall you deride and no one give rebuke?
4 Tu hai detto: "La mia dottrina è pura e sono irreprensibile davanti a te!".	4 Shall you say: "My teaching is pure, and I am clean in your sight"?
5 Ah, se Dio volesse parlare e aprire le sue labbra contro di te!	5 But oh, that God would speak, and open his lips against you,
6 Se ti rivelasse i segreti della sapienza, che sono ambigui a intendersi, allora tu sapresti che Dio perdona parte della tua colpa.	6 And tell you that the secrets of wisdom are twice as effective: So you might learn that God will make you answer for your guilt.
7 Pretendi forse di sondare l'intimo di Dio, e di penetrare la perfezione dell'Onnipotente?	7 Can you penetrate the designs of God? Dare you vie with the perfection of the Almighty?
8 Essa è più alta dei cieli: che farai? E' più profonda degli inferi: che ne puoi sapere?	8 It is higher than the heavens; what can you do? It is deeper than the nether world; what can you know?
9 E' più estesa della terra nella sua dimensione e più vasta del mare.	9 It is longer than the earth in measure, and broader than the sea.
10 Se si presenta, imprigiona (qualcuno) e lo cita in giudizio, chi glielo può impedire?	10 If he seize and imprison or call to judgment, who then can say him nay?
11 Sì, egli conosce gli uomini falsi, vede l'iniquità e l'osserva:	11 For he knows the worthlessness of men and sees iniquity; will he then ignore it?
12 l'uomo stolto mette giudizio, quando il puledro di un onagro nasce uomo!	12 Will empty man then gain understanding, and the wild jackass be made docile?
13 Tu invece, se rivolgi il tuo cuore a Dio e stendi verso di lui le tue mani,	13 If you set your heart aright and stretch out your hands toward him,
14 se allontani dalla tua mano l'iniquità, se non permetterai all'ingiustizia di abitare nella tua tenda,	14 If you remove all iniquity from your conduct, and let not injustice dwell in your tent,
15 allora potrai levare la tua fronte senza macchia, starai saldo e non avrai timore.	15 Surely then you may lift up your face in innocence; you may stand firm and unafraid.
16 Allora dimenticherai le disgrazie, le ricorderai come acqua passata.	16 For then you shall forget your misery, or recall it like waters that have ebbed away.
17 La tua vita risorgerà più bella di un meriggio e le tenebre diventeranno come un mattino.	17 Then your life shall be brighter than the noonday; its gloom shall become as the morning,
18 Sarai sicuro, perché c'è speranza, e guardandoti intorno, riposerai tranquillo.	18 And you shall be secure, because there is hope; you shall look round you and lie down in safety,
19 Dormirai senza che nessuno ti disturbi, anzi molti cercheranno il tuo favore.	19 and you shall take your rest with none to disturb. Many shall entreat your favor,
20 Invece gli occhi dei malvagi si consumano, ogni scampo verrà loro a mancare; la loro speranza è l'ultimo respiro".	20 but the wicked, looking on, shall be consumed with envy. Escape shall be cut off from them, they shall wait to expire.
