Geremia 10

BIBBIA RICCIOTTI	CATHOLIC PUBLIC DOMAIN
1 - Udite la parola che il Signore ha pronunziato sopra di voi, casa d'Israele.	1 Listen to the word that the Lord has spoken concerning you, O house of Israel.
2 Così dice il Signore: «Alle pratiche dei gentili non vi lasciate ammaestrare, non abbiate timore dei segni del cielo che i gentili temono.	2 Thus says the Lord: “Do not choose to learn according to the ways of the Gentiles. And do not be willing to dread the signs of heaven, which the Gentiles fear.
3 Perchè i riti dei popoli sono vani; a un pezzo di legno, che è stato tagliato dal bosco per opera della mano d'un artefice coll'ascia,	3 For the laws of the people are empty. For the work of the hand of the craftsman has cut a tree from the forest with an axe.
4 questi ha messo fregi d'oro e d'argento, coi chiodi e col martello l'ha rifermo perchè non si scompagini.	4 He has adorned it with silver and gold. He has put it together with nail and hammer, so that it will not fall apart.
5 Sono foggiati a guisa d'una palma e non parlano; per trasportarli bisogna sorreggerli, perchè non possono camminare. Non vogliate dunque temere di cose tali che non possono fare del male, ma neppure del bene».	5 They have been fabricated in the likeness of a palm tree, and they will not speak. They must be carried to be moved, because they do not have the ability to walk. Therefore, do not be willing to fear them, for they can do neither evil nor good.”
6 Non c'è nessuno simile a te, Signore, tu sei grande, e grande è il tuo nome in potenza.	6 O Lord, there is nothing similar to you. You are great, and your name is great in strength.
7 Chi non ti temerà, o re delle genti? perchè tua è la gloria, e tu sei degno di rispetto fra tutti i sapienti delle nazioni, e in tutti i loro regni nessuno è simile a te.	7 Who will not fear you, O King of the nations? For honor is yours. Among all the wise of the nations, and within all their kingdoms, there is nothing similar to you.
8 Tutti ugualmente daranno prova d'esser stolti e insensati: l'insegnamento delle lor futilità è un legno.	8 Together, they will all be proven to be unwise and foolish. The doctrine of their vanity is made of wood.
9 Argento laminato da Tarsis gli è recato e oro di Ofaz, opera di artefice fatta dalla mano d'un argentiere; i loro paludamenti sono di scarlatto e di porpora, tutto lavoro di periti nell'arte.	9 Rolled silver is brought from Tarshish, and gold from Uphaz. It is the work of a craftsman, and of the hand of a coppersmith. Hyacinth and purple is their clothing. All these things are the work of artists.
10 Ma il Signore è il Dio vero, egli il Dio vivo il re eterno: alla sua indignazione trema la terra e le genti non possono sostenere la sua minaccia.	10 But the Lord is the true God. He is the living God and the everlasting King. Before his indignation, the earth will shake. And the Gentiles will not be able to withstand his threats.
11 Voi dunque direte loro così: «Gli dèi che non hanno fatto il cielo e la terra periscano d'in sulla terra e al disotto del cielo».	11 “And so, you shall speak to them in this way: The gods that have not made heaven and earth, let them perish from the earth and from among those places which are under heaven.
12 Egli è che colla sua potenza fa la terra, che dispone l'universo colla sua sapienza e colla sua intelligenza distende i cieli.	12 He made the earth by his power, he prepared the world in his wisdom, and he stretched out the heavens with his understanding.
13 Al risuonar della sua voce, scrosciano in copia acque dal cielo; fa salire le nubi dalle estremità della terra; forma i baleni, forieri di pioggia, e trae fuor de' suoi ricettacoli i vènti.	13 At his voice, he grants a multitude of waters in the heavens, and he lifts up the clouds from the ends of the earth. He causes the lightning with the rain, and he leads forth the wind from his storehouses.
14 Ogni uomo, dalla sua stessa scienza, stolto è dichiarato; ogni artefice in una statua ha la sua propria confusione; perchè ciò che ha fuso è una menzogna, spirito in essi non v'è.	14 Every man has become a fool concerning knowledge; every artist has been confounded by his graven image. For what he has formed is false, and there is no spirit in these things.
15 Sono esseri vani, contraffazioni ridicole; quando verrà la loro ora periranno.	15 These things are empty, and they are a work deserving of ridicule. In the time of their visitation, they will perish.
16 Non è simile a questi il Dio, retaggio di Giacobbe, perchè egli è quello che ha formato tutte le cose e Israele è lo scettro della sua eredità, il suo nome è Signore degli eserciti.	16 Jacob’s portion is not like their portion. For his portion is from the One who formed all things. And Israel is the staff of his inheritance. The Lord of hosts is his name.
17 Raccatta da terra il fardello della tua confusione, o tu che assediata giaci,	17 Gather your shame from the earth, you who are living under siege.”
18 perchè, così dice il Signore: «Ecco questa è la volta che io sbalestrerò lontano gli abitatori di questa terra e li vesserò tanto che ritrovino se stessi».	18 For thus says the Lord: “Behold, in this turn, I will cast the inhabitants of the land far away. And I will afflict them no matter where they may be found.”
19 «Ahimè che strazio, che colpo atroce! Ma io debbo dirlo: il danno è tutto mio e lo sopporterò.	19 Woe to me, concerning my destruction! My wound is very grievous. And yet I said: Clearly, this infirmity is mine, and I will carry it.
20 Il mio padiglione è stato sfasciato, le mie corde spezzate; i miei figli sono usciti da me e non ci sono più, non v'è più nessuno che dispieghi il mio padiglione e rizzi le mie tende.	20 My tent has been destroyed. All my cords have been broken. My sons have gone away from me; they did not remain. There is no one to stretch out my tent any more, nor to set up my curtains.
21 Perchè i pastori hanno agito da stolti e non hanno ricercato il Signore; perciò non sono riusciti nei loro intenti e tutto il loro gregge è stato disperso.	21 For the pastors have acted foolishly, and they have not sought the Lord. Because of this, they have not understood, and all their flock has been dispersed.
22 Una voce che si ripercuote ecco è giunta, un gran fragore dalla terra del settentrione per mettere le città di Giuda nella desolazione e farne un'abitazione di fiere».	22 Behold, the sound of a voice approaches, a great commotion from the land of the north: so that he may make the cities of Judah into a wilderness and into a dwelling place for serpents.
23 Io so, o Signore, che non è in balìa dell'uomo la sua strada, nè in suo arbitrio camminare e dirigere i suoi passi.	23 I know, O Lord, that the way of man is not his own. Neither is it given to man to walk and to direct his own steps.
24 Castigami, o Signore; ma con equanimità e non con tutto il tuo furore; affinchè tu non mi riduca al niente.	24 Correct me, O Lord, yet truly, do so with judgment, and not in your fury. Otherwise, you will reduce me to nothing.
25 Riversa la tua indignazione sopra le genti che ti hanno misconosciuto, e sopra le province che non hanno invocato il tuo nome; perchè hanno dilaniato Giacobbe e se lo sono divorato, l'hanno consumato e hanno dissipata la sua magnificenza!	25 Pour out your indignation upon the nations that have not known you, and upon the provinces that have not invoked your name. For they have fed upon Jacob, and devoured him, and consumed him, and they have utterly destroyed his honor.
