1 - Per l'Onnipotente i tempi non sono celati: ma color che conoscono Lui, ignorano i giorni suoi.	1 Why are not times set by the Almighty, and why do his friends not see his days?
2 Vi son di quelli che spostano i confini, rubano i greggi e li pascolano [per loro profitto];	2 The wicked remove landmarks; they steal away herds and pasture them.
3 l'asino degli orfani essi portano via, prendono in pegno il bove della vedova;	3 The asses of orphans they drive away; they take the widow's ox for a pledge.
4 sconvolgono i progetti dei poverelli, opprimono tutti i meschini della contrada.	4 They force the needy off the road; all the poor of the land are driven into hiding.
5 Vi son di quelli che, come onagri nel deserto, vanno fuori al loro lavoro: accorti sono essi a far preda, apprestando il pane ai figliuoli:	5 Like wild asses in the desert, these go forth to their task of seeking food; The steppe provides food for the young among them;
6 mietono nel campo che non è loro, e vendemmiano la vigna di chi hanno oppresso;	6 they harvest at night in the untilled land.
7 rimandano nuda la gente, togliendo le vesti a coloroche non hanno copertura per il freddo,	7 They pass the night naked, without clothing, for they have no covering against the cold;
8 che dalle piogge dei monti restano inzuppatie per mancanza di riparo s'abbracciano alle rupi;	8 They are drenched with the rain of the mountains, and for want of shelter they cling to the rock.
9 commettono violenza depredando gli orfani, e la turba dei poveri spogliano;
10 a gente nuda che va senza vestito ed è affamata, essi tolgono le spighe;	10 and famished are those who carry the sheaves.
11 passano il meriggio fra i mucchi di coloroche soffron sete calcando gli strettoi:	11 Between the rows they press out the oil; they glean in the the vineyard of the wicked. They tread the wine presses, yet suffer thirst,
12 fecero gemere dalle città gli uomini, e l'anima dei trafitti grida, e Dio non permette che s'allontani l'invendicato.	12 From the dust the dying groan, and the souls of the wounded cry out (yet God does not treat it as unseemly).
13 Questi stessi sono ribelli alla luce, non conoscono le sue vie, nè battono i suoi sentieri;	13 There are those who are rebels against the light; they know not its ways; they abide not in its paths.
14 di buon mattino si leva l'omicida, uccide il misero e il poverello: di notte poi fa da ladro;	14 When there is no light the murderer rises, to kill the poor and needy.
15 l'occhio dell'adultero spia la caliginedicendo: - Occhio non mi scorgerà! -e si mette un velame sulla faccia;	15 The eye of the adulterer watches for the twilight; he says, "No eye will see me." In the night the thief roams about, and he puts a mask over his face;
16 scassina [il ladro] nell'oscurità le case, come durante il giorno aveva fissato con i suoi [compagni], poichè hanno in odio la luce:	16 in the dark he breaks into houses. By day they shut themselves in; none of them know the light,
17 se ad un tratto appare l'aurora la credono un'ombra di morte, e camminano nelle tenebre come fosse luce.	17 for daylight they regard as darkness.
18 [Il malvagio] è cosa leggiera sulla superficie delle acque: sia maledetta la sua eredità sulla terra, nè si rivolga il pigiatore alla sua vigna!	18 Their portion in the land is accursed,
19 Ad eccessivo calore passi egli dalle acque della neve, e il suo peccato vada sino agl'ìnferi.
20 Di lui si scordi la misericordia, la sua dolcezza siano i vermi; non sia egli più ricordato, ma stroncato come albero infruttuoso!	20 and wickedness is splintered like wood.
21 Poichè depredò la sterile che non partorisce, ed alla vedova non fece del bene;
22 atterrò i forti con la sua fortezza, e quando starà in piedi non avrà sicurezza di vita.	22 To him who rises without assurance of his life
23 Dio gli dette tempo di penitenza, e costui ne abusa a superbia; ma egli tiene i suoi occhi sulle vie di lui.	23 he gives safety and support. He sustains the mighty by his strength, and his eyes are on their ways.
24 S'innalzano essi un momento, e più non esistono; saranno umiliati come ogni cosa, e tolti via, e come cime di spighe saranno recisi.	24 They are exalted for a while, and then they are gone; they are laid low and, like all others, are gathered up; like ears of grain they shrivel.
25 Se non è così chi mi accuserà di menzogna, e citarmi avanti a Dio per le mie parole?»	25 If this be not so, who will confute me, and reduce my argument to nought?
