Ester 15

1 - E la esortò egli (non c'è dubbio che fosse Mardocheo) a presentarsi al re, e supplicarlo per il suo popolo e per la sua patria.	1 Truly, king Artaxerxes made all the land, and all the islands of the sea, tributaries.
2 «Ricordati» disse «de' giorni del tuo basso stato, quando ricevevi per le mie mani il nutrimento. Aman, secondo dopo il re, ha parlato contro di noi [per darci] alla morte;	2 And his strength and his authority, and the dignity and supremacy with which he exalted Mordecai, have been written in the books of the Medes and the Persians,
3 tu invoca il Signore, parla al re in nostro favore, e liberaci dalla morte». (E anche le cose seguenti.)	3 and how Mordecai of Jewish birth, was second after king Artaxerxes, and great among the Jews, and acceptable to the people of his brethren, seeking the good of his people, and speaking about things which pertained to peace for their descendents.
4 Al terzo giorno poi, depose le vesti [di lutto] che s'era messe, e s'abbigliò in gran pompa.	4 And Mordecai said, “By God have these things been done.
5 Così splendente degli abiti regali, dopo aver invocato Dio reggitore e salvatore di tutti, prese con sè due ancelle;	5 I remember a dream that I saw, which signified these same things, and nothing of this whatsoever has failed to occur.
6 su una s'appoggiava, tenendosi appena in piedi per la sua delicatezza e debolezza;	6 The little fountain which grew into a river, and had turned into light and into the sun, and overflowed into many waters, is Esther, whom the king received as wife and whom he preferred to be queen.
7 l'altra seguiva la padrona, reggendole le vesti che strascicavano per terra.	7 But the two dragons are I and Haman.
8 Essa poi, sparso il viso di color di rosa, sotto un aspetto giulivo e brillante celava un animo triste ed irrigidito dallo spavento.	8 The peoples who gathered together are those who had attempted to erase the name of the Jews.
9 Passate dunque, una dopo l'altra, tutte le porte, si trovò di fronte al re, il quale sedeva sul suo trono, vestito degli abiti regali, splendente d'oro e di gemme preziose, ed era terribile a vedersi.	9 And my people is Israel, who cried out to the Lord, and the Lord brought salvation to his people, and he freed us from all evils, and he created great signs and portents among the nations.
10 Avendo egli alzato il viso, e mostrato con gli infiammati sguardi il suo sdegno, la regina venne meno, e, cambiato in pallidezza il suo colore, vacillando piegò il capo sulla sua ancella.	10 And he commanded there to be two lots, one for the people of God and the other for all the nations.
11 Dio allora volse a mansuetudine l'animo del re, il quale sollecito e tremante saltò giù dal suo trono, e reggendola con le sue braccia sinchè non fu rientrata in sè, l'accarezzava dicendo:	11 And both lots arrived at the day appointed before God, even from that past time, for all peoples.
12 «Ester, che hai? Io sono il tuo fratello; non aver paura.	12 And the Lord remembered his people and had mercy on his inheritance.
13 Tu non morrai; questa legge è posta per tutti, ma non per te;	13 And these days shall be observed in the month of Adar, on the fourteenth and fifteenth day of the same month, with all zealousness and joy, by the people gathered together into one union, throughout all the generations hereafter of the people of Israel.”
14 vieni dunque, e tocca lo scettro».	14 In the fourth year of the reigns of Ptolemy and Cleopatra, Dositheus, who was himself a priest and born of the Levites, and Ptolemy his son, brought this epistle of Purim, which they said was a translation by Lysimachus the son of Ptolemy in Jerusalem.
15 Ma poichè essa taceva, prese lo scettro d'oro, e glielo pose sul collo; poi la baciò, e disse: «Perchè non mi parli?».
16 Essa rispose: «Ho visto te, signore, simile ad un angelo di Dio, ed il mio cuore è rimasto turbato, temendo la tua grandezza.
17 Perchè tu sei grandemente ammirabile, o signore, e il tuo volto è pieno di grazie».
18 Mentre così parlava, ricadde un'altra volta, e restò quasi senza conoscenza.
19 Il re ne restò turbato, e tutti i suoi ministri la consolavano. (Copia della lettera, che il re Artaserse mandò in favore dei Giudei a tutte le province del suo regno. Anch'essa non si trova nel testo ebraico.)
