The beginning of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God.1 Principio del Vangelo di Gesù Cristo Figlio di Dio.
As it has been written by the prophet Isaiah: “Behold, I send my Angel before your face, who shall prepare your way before you.2 Come è scritto nel profeta Isaia: Ecco io mando innanzi al tuo cospetto il mio angelo, a prepararti la via.
The voice of one crying out in the desert: Prepare the way of the Lord; make straight his paths.”3 Voce di colui che grida nel deserto: preparate la via del Signore, raddrizzate i suoi sentieri.
John was in the desert, baptizing and preaching a baptism of repentance, as a remission of sins.4 Apparve Giovanni nel deserto a battezzare e a predicare un battesimo di penitenza in remissione dei peccati.
And there went out to him all the region of Judea and all those of Jerusalem, and they were baptized by him in the river Jordan, confessing their sins.5 E tutto il paese della Giudea e tutta Gerusalemme andavano a trovarlo, e, confessando i loro peccati, eran da lui battezzati nelle acque del Giordano.
And John was clothed with camel’s hair and with a leather belt around his waist. And he ate locusts and wild honey.6 Or Giovanni era vestito di pelo di cammello, con una cintura di cuoio ai fianchi e si nutriva di locuste e di miele selvatico.
And he preached, saying: “A stronger one comes after me. I am not worthy to reach down and loosen the laces of his shoes.7 E predicando diceva: Dopo di me viene chi è più forte di me, a cui non son degno di sciogliere, prostrato a terra, il legaccio dei calzari.
I have baptized you with water. Yet truly, he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.”8 Io v'ho battezzato in acqua, ma egli vi battezzerà collo Spirito Santo.
And it happened that, in those days, Jesus arrived from Nazareth of Galilee. And he was baptized by John in the Jordan.9 Or avvenne in quei giorni che Gesù arrivò da Nazaret di Galilea o fu battezzato da Giovanni nel Giordano.
And immediately, upon ascending from the water, he saw the heavens opened and the Spirit, like a dove, descending, and remaining with him.10 E subito, nell'uscire dall'acqua, vide aprirsi i cieli e scendere a guisa di colomba lo Spirito e posarsi su di lui.
And there was a voice from heaven: “You are my beloved Son; in you I am well pleased.”11 E dal cielo venne una voce: Tu sei il mio Figlio diletto, in te mi sono compiaciuto.
And immediately the Spirit prompted him into the desert.12 E subito lo spirito lo spinse nel deserto:
And he was in the desert for forty days and forty nights. And he was tempted by Satan. And he was with the wild animals, and the Angels ministered to him.13 e vi rimase quaranta giorni e quaranta notti, tentato da Satana, e stava tra le fiere; e gli angeli lo servivano.
Then, after John was handed over, Jesus went into Galilee, preaching the Gospel of the kingdom of God,14 Or dopo che Giovanni fu messo in carcere, Gesù andò in Galilea a predicare il Vangelo del regno di Dio,
and saying: “For the time has been fulfilled and the kingdom of God has drawn near. Repent and believe in the Gospel.”15 dicendo: Il tempo è compiuto, il regno di Dio è vicino: fate penitenza e credete al Vangelo.
And passing by the shore of the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew, casting nets into the sea, for they were fishermen.16 E passando lungo il mare di Galilea, Gesù vide Simone e Andrea suo fratello gettare le reti in mare (eran pescatori)
And Jesus said to them, “Come after me, and I will make you fishers of men.”17 e disse loro: Seguitemi; e vi farò pescatori d'uomini.
And at once abandoning their nets, they followed him.18 E subito, lasciate le reti, lo seguirono.
And continuing on a little ways from there, he saw James of Zebedee and his brother John, and they were mending their nets in a boat.19 Andato un po' più avanti vide Giacomo di Zebedeo e Giovanni suo fratello anch'essi in una barca a rassettare le reti;
And immediately he called them. And leaving behind their father Zebedee in the boat with his hired hands, they followed him.20 e subito li chiamò. Ed essi, lasciato nella barca Zebedeo loro padre coi garzoni, lo seguirono.
And they entered into Capernaum. And entering into the synagogue promptly on the Sabbaths, he taught them.21 Ed entrato in Cafarnao e subito andato alla sinagoga in giorno di sabato, si mise ad insegnare.
And they were astonished over his doctrine. For he was teaching them as one who has authority, and not like the scribes.22 E stupivan della sua dottrina, perchè insegnava loro come chi ne ha l'autorità, e non come gli Scribi.
And in their synagogue, there was a man with an unclean spirit; and he cried out,23 Or si trovava in quella sinagoga un uomo posseduto da spirito immondo, il quale prese a gridare:
saying: “What are we to you, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are: the Holy One of God.”24 Che c'è tra noi e te, o Gesù Nazareno? Sei venuto per rovinarci? So chi sei, il Santo di Dio.
And Jesus admonished him, saying, “Be silent, and depart from the man.”25 E Gesù lo sgridò dicendo: Taci, ed esci da costui.
And the unclean spirit, convulsing him and crying out with a loud voice, departed from him.26 E lo spirito immondo dopo aver malmenato quell'uomo, fortemente gridando, ne usci.
And they were all so amazed that they inquired among themselves, saying: “What is this? And what is this new doctrine? For with authority he commands even the unclean spirits, and they obey him.”27 E tutti stupirono da dimandarsi a vicenda: Che cosa è mai questa? E qual nuova dottrina è mai? Comanda con autorità anche agli spiriti immondi e gli ubbidiscono.
And his fame went out quickly, throughout the entire region of Galilee.28 E subito la fama di lui si divulgò per tutta la Galilea.
And soon after departing from the synagogue, they went into the house of Simon and Andrew, with James and John.29 E appena usciti dalla sinagoga, andarono con Giacomo e Giovanni in casa di Simone e di Andrea.
But the mother-in-law of Simon lay ill with a fever. And at once they told him about her.30 Or la suocera di Simone era a letto colla febbre; e subito gli parlai! di lei.
And drawing near to her, he raised her up, taking her by the hand. And immediately the fever left her, and she ministered to them.31 Ed egli, accostatosi ad essa e presala per mano, la fece levare; e subito lasciata dalla febbre, si mise a servirli.
Then, when evening arrived, after the sun had set, they brought to him all who had maladies and those who had demons.32 Venuta la sera e tramontato il sole, gli portavano gli infermi e gli indemoniati.
And the entire city was gathered together at the door.33 E tutta la città s'era affollata all'uscio.
And he healed many who were troubled with various illnesses. And he cast out many demons, but he would not permit them to speak, because they knew him.34 Ed egli guarì molti afflitti da vari mali, e cacciò molti demoni, nè permetteva a questi di dire che lo conoscevano.
And rising up very early, departing, he went out to a deserted place, and there he prayed.35 E levatosi di gran mattino, se ne andò in un luogo solitario a pregare.
And Simon, and those who were with him, followed after him.36 E Simone e quelli che eran con lui gli tennero dietro;
And when they had found him, they said to him, “For everyone is seeking you.”37 e, trovatolo, gli dissero: tutti ti cercano.
And he said to them: “Let us go into the neighboring towns and cities, so that I may preach there also. Indeed, it was for this reason that I came.”38 Disse loro: Andiamo per i vicini villaggi, ond'io predichi anche là, essendo venuto appunto per questo.
And he was preaching in their synagogues and throughout all of Galilee, and casting out demons.39 E andava predicando nelle loro sinagoghe per tutta la Galilea, e scacciava i demoni.
And a leper came to him, begging him. And kneeling down, he said to him, “If you are willing, you are able to cleanse me.”40 E venne a raccomandarsi un lebbroso che, buttandosi in ginocchio, gli disse: Se vuoi puoi mondarmi.
Then Jesus, taking pity on him, reached out his hand. And touching him, he said to him: “I am willing. Be cleansed.”41 E Gesù, mosso a compassione, stese la mano e toccandolo, disse: Lo voglio: sii mondato.
And after he had spoken, immediately the leprosy departed from him, and he was cleansed.42 E come ciò ebbe detto, spari la lebbra e fu mondato.
And he admonished him, and he promptly sent him away.43 E con gravi ammonizioni lo mandò subito via, dicendogli;
And he said to him: “See to it that you tell no one. But go and show yourself to the high priest, and offer for your cleansing that which Moses instructed, as a testimony for them.”44 Guardati dal dirlo ad alcuno; ma va' fatti vedere al principe dei sacerdoti ed offri per la tua purificazione quanto ha ordinato Mosè in testimonianza per essi.
But having departed, he began to preach and to disseminate the word, so that he was no longer able to openly enter a city, but had to remain outside, in deserted places. And they were gathered to him from every direction.45 Ma colui, appena partito, cominciò a bandire e a divulgare il fatto: tanto che Gesù non poteva più entrare palesamento in città; ma stava fuori, in luoghi solitari, e da ogni parte accorrevano a lui.
