1 And David spake unto the LORD the words of this song in the day that the LORD had delivered him out of the hand of all his enemies, and out of the hand of Saul:	1 Davide rivolse al Signore le parole di questo canto, il giorno in cui il Signore lo liberò dalla mano di tutti i suoi nemici e dalla mano di Saul.
2 And he said, The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer;	2 Egli disse: "Il Signore è mia roccia e mia fortezza, mio rifugio per me è
3 The God of my rock; in him will I trust: he is my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower, and my refuge, my saviour; thou savest me from violence.	3 il mio Dio; mia rupe in cui mi rifugio, mio scudo e mio corno di salvezza; mia rocca e mio rifugio, mio salvatore. Tu mi salvi dalla violenza.
4 I will call on the LORD, who is worthy to be praised: so shall I be saved from mine enemies.	4 Invocai il Signore, degno di lode, e fui salvato dai miei nemici.
5 When the waves of death compassed me, the floods of ungodly men made me afraid;	5 Quando mi avvolsero le onde di morte, i torrenti di Belial mi oppressero,
6 The sorrows of hell compassed me about; the snares of death prevented me;	6 le corde degli inferi mi circondarono, mi affrontarono i lacci di morte,
7 In my distress I called upon the LORD, and cried to my God: and he did hear my voice out of his temple, and my cry did enter into his ears.	7 nella mia angustia invocai il Signore, e verso il mio Dio gridai, dal suo palazzo ascoltò la mia voce e la mia supplica giunse alle sue orecchie.
8 Then the earth shook and trembled; the foundations of heaven moved and shook, because he was wroth.	8 Si agitò e si scosse la terra le fondamenta dei cieli tremarono; si agitarono perché si accese la sua ira.
9 There went up a smoke out of his nostrils, and fire out of his mouth devoured: coals were kindled by it.	9 Salì fumo dalle sue narici e fuoco divoratore dalla sua bocca, carboni fiammeggiarono da lui.
10 He bowed the heavens also, and came down; and darkness was under his feet.	10 Piegò i cieli e discese, e una densa nube era sotto i suoi piedi,
11 And he rode upon a cherub, and did fly: and he was seen upon the wings of the wind.	11 cavalcò un cherubino e volò, apparve sulle ali del vento;
12 And he made darkness pavilions round about him, dark waters, and thick clouds of the skies.	12 si avvolse di tenebre come tenda, un ammasso di acqua, nubi profondissime.
13 Through the brightness before him were coals of fire kindled.	13 Per lo splendore davanti a lui, s'accesero carboni di fuoco;
14 The LORD thundered from heaven, and the most High uttered his voice.	14 tuonò dal cielo il Signore e l'Altissimo emise la sua voce:
15 And he sent out arrows, and scattered them; lightning, and discomfited them.	15 scoccò frecce e le disseminò, scagliò fulmini e li sparpagliò.
16 And the channels of the sea appeared, the foundations of the world were discovered, at the rebuking of the LORD, at the blast of the breath of his nostrils.	16 Furono messi a nudo gli abissi del mare, le fondamenta del mondo furono scoperte, al rimbombo minaccioso del Signore, al soffio del vento delle sue narici.
17 He sent from above, he took me; he drew me out of many waters;	17 Dall'alto stese la mano e mi afferrò, mi trasse fuori dalle acque profonde.
18 He delivered me from my strong enemy, and from them that hated me: for they were too strong for me.	18 Mi salvò dal mio potente nemico, dai miei avversari, perché più forti di me.
19 They prevented me in the day of my calamity: but the LORD was my stay.	19 Mi affrontarono nel giorno della mia calamità, ma il Signore fu il sostegno per me.
20 He brought me forth also into a large place: he delivered me, because he delighted in me.	20 Mi fece uscire in luogo spazioso, mi liberò perché si compiace in me.
21 The LORD rewarded me according to my righteousness: according to the cleanness of my hands hath he recompensed me.	21 Il Signore mi ricompensò secondo la mia giustizia, secondo la purezza delle mie mani mi retribuì;
22 For I have kept the ways of the LORD, and have not wickedly departed from my God.	22 perché io ho osservato le vie del Signore e non ho agito male lontano dal mio Dio;
23 For all his judgments were before me: and as for his statutes, I did not depart from them.	23 perché ogni suo precetto fu davanti a me, e dalla sua legge non mi allontanai.
24 I was also upright before him, and have kept myself from mine iniquity.	24 Fui perfetto verso di lui, e mi guardai dal mio peccato.
25 Therefore the LORD hath recompensed me according to my righteousness; according to my cleanness in his eye sight.	25 Il Signore mi ricompensò secondo la mia giustizia, secondo la mia innocenza davanti ai suoi occhi.
26 With the merciful thou wilt shew thyself merciful, and with the upright man thou wilt shew thyself upright.	26 Con il pio tratti da pio, con l'uomo perfetto tratti da perfetto;
27 With the pure thou wilt shew thyself pure; and with the froward thou wilt shew thyself unsavoury.	27 con il sincero ti mostri sincero, ma con il perverso ti mostri subdolo.
28 And the afflicted people thou wilt save: but thine eyes are upon the haughty, that thou mayest bring them down.	28 Tu salvi il popolo umile e sui superbi abbassi i tuoi occhi.
29 For thou art my lamp, O LORD: and the LORD will lighten my darkness.	29 Certo, tu sei la mia lampada, o Signore, è il Signore che illumina le mie tenebre.
30 For by thee I have run through a troop: by my God have I leaped over a wall.	30 Certo, con te inseguo una truppa, col mio Dio posso saltare una muraglia.
31 As for God, his way is perfect; the word of the LORD is tried: he is a buckler to all them that trust in him.	31 Dio, il suo dominio è perfetto, il comando del Signore è sicuro. Egli è scudo per tutti quelli che si rifugiano in lui.
32 For who is God, save the LORD? and who is a rock, save our God?	32 Certo, chi è Dio fuori del Signore, e chi è rupe fuori del Dio nostro?
33 God is my strength and power: and he maketh my way perfect.	33 Dio è mia fortezza potente, ed estende il suo dominio perfetto,
34 He maketh my feet like hinds' feet: and setteth me upon my high places.	34 egli rese i miei piedi come quelli delle cerve, mi fa stare in piedi sulle alture;
35 He teacheth my hands to war; so that a bow of steel is broken by mine arms.	35 egli addestrò le mie mani alla guerra e pose un arco di bronzo nelle mie braccia.
36 Thou hast also given me the shield of thy salvation: and thy gentleness hath made me great.	36 Tu mi desti il tuo scudo vittorioso e il tuo trionfo mi ha reso grande.
37 Thou hast enlarged my steps under me; so that my feet did not slip.	37 Tu rendesti spedito il mio passo, e le mie caviglie non vacillarono.
38 I have pursued mine enemies, and destroyed them; and turned not again until I had consumed them.	38 Inseguii i miei nemici e li distrussi, non tornai indietro finché non li annientai.
39 And I have consumed them, and wounded them, that they could not arise: yea, they are fallen under my feet.	39 Li annientai e li percossi, tanto che non poterono alzarsi, essi caddero sotto i miei piedi.
40 For thou hast girded me with strength to battle: them that rose up against me hast thou subdued under me.	40 Mi hai cinto di forza per la battaglia, hai fatto cadere sotto di me i miei aggressori.
41 Thou hast also given me the necks of mine enemies, that I might destroy them that hate me.	41 Tu mi hai dato la nuca dei miei nemici, i miei avversari li ho sterminati;
42 They looked, but there was none to save; even unto the LORD, but he answered them not.	42 essi guardarono, ma non vi era il salvatore, verso il Signore, ma non rispose ad essi.
43 Then did I beat them as small as the dust of the earth, I did stamp them as the mire of the street, and did spread them abroad.	43 Li ho stritolati come la polvere della terra, come il fango delle strade li ho polverizzati e calpestati.
44 Thou also hast delivered me from the strivings of my people, thou hast kept me to be head of the heathen: a people which I knew not shall serve me.	44 Mi hai liberato dalle lotte del mio popolo, mi hai conservato a capo delle nazioni, gente che non conoscevo mi ha servito;
45 Strangers shall submit themselves unto me: as soon as they hear, they shall be obedient unto me.	45 i figli dello straniero si umiliano davanti a me, appena sentono mi obbediscono;
46 Strangers shall fade away, and they shall be afraid out of their close places.	46 i figli dello straniero vengono meno, escono tremanti dai loro nascondigli.
47 The LORD liveth; and blessed be my rock; and exalted be the God of the rock of my salvation.	47 Viva il Signore! Benedetta la mia rupe! Sia esaltato il Dio della mia roccia di salvezza,
48 It is God that avengeth me, and that bringeth down the people under me,	48 il Dio che mi concede le vendette, e che mi sottomette i popoli,
49 And that bringeth me forth from mine enemies: thou also hast lifted me up on high above them that rose up against me: thou hast delivered me from the violent man.	49 che mi sottrae ai miei nemici; tu mi poni al disopra dei miei aggressori e mi salvi da uomini violenti.
50 Therefore I will give thanks unto thee, O LORD, among the heathen, and I will sing praises unto thy name.	50 Per questo ti lodo, o Signore, tra i popoli, e inneggerò al tuo nome.
51 He is the tower of salvation for his king: and sheweth mercy to his anointed, unto David, and to his seed for evermore.	51 Egli concede grandi vittorie al suo re, e compie opere d'amore per il suo consacrato, per Davide e la sua discendenza per sempre".
