Job 34

DOUAI-RHEIMSLXX
And Eliu continued his discourse, and said :1 υπολαβων δε ελιους λεγει
Hear ye, wise men, my words, and ye learned, hearken to me :2 ακουσατε μου σοφοι επισταμενοι ενωτιζεσθε το καλον
For the ear trieth words, and the mouth discerneth meats by the taste.3 οτι ους λογους δοκιμαζει και λαρυγξ γευεται βρωσιν
Let us choose to us judgment, and let us see among ourselves what is the best.4 κρισιν ελωμεθα εαυτοις γνωμεν ανα μεσον εαυτων ο τι καλον
For Job hath said : I am just, and God hath overthrown my judgment.5 οτι ειρηκεν ιωβ δικαιος ειμι ο κυριος απηλλαξεν μου το κριμα
For in judging me there is a lie : my arrow is violent without any sin.6 εψευσατο δε τω κριματι μου βιαιον το βελος μου ανευ αδικιας
What man is there like Job, who drinketh up scorning like water?7 τις ανηρ ωσπερ ιωβ πινων μυκτηρισμον ωσπερ υδωρ
Who goeth in company with them that work iniquity, and walketh with wicked men?8 ουχ αμαρτων ουδε ασεβησας η οδου κοινωνησας μετα ποιουντων τα ανομα του πορευθηναι μετα ασεβων
For he hath said : Man shall not please God, although he run with him.9 μη γαρ ειπης οτι ουκ εσται επισκοπη ανδρος και επισκοπη αυτω παρα κυριου
Therefore, ye men of understanding, hear me : far from god be wickedness, and iniquity from the Almighty.10 διο συνετοι καρδιας ακουσατε μου μη μοι ειη εναντι κυριου ασεβησαι και εναντι παντοκρατορος ταραξαι το δικαιον
For he will render to a man his work, and according to the ways of every one he will reward them.11 αλλα αποδιδοι ανθρωπω καθα ποιει εκαστος αυτων και εν τριβω ανδρος ευρησει αυτον
For in very deed God will not condemn without cause, neither will the Almighty pervert judgment.12 οιη δε τον κυριον ατοπα ποιησειν η ο παντοκρατωρ ταραξει κρισιν
What other hath he appointed over the earth? or whom hath he set over the world which he made?13 ος εποιησεν την γην τις δε εστιν ο ποιων την υπ' ουρανον και τα ενοντα παντα
If he turn his heart to him, he shall draw his spirit and breath unto himself.14 ει γαρ βουλοιτο συνεχειν και το πνευμα παρ' αυτω κατασχειν
All flesh shall perish together, and man shall return into ashes.15 τελευτησει πασα σαρξ ομοθυμαδον πας δε βροτος εις γην απελευσεται οθεν και επλασθη
If then thou hast understanding, hear what is said, and hearken to the voice of my words.16 ει δε μη νουθετη ακουε ταυτα ενωτιζου φωνην ρηματων
Can he be healed that loveth not judgment? and how dost thou so far condemn him that is just?17 ιδε συ τον μισουντα ανομα και τον ολλυντα τους πονηρους οντα αιωνιον δικαιον
Who saith to the king : Thou art an apostate : who calleth rulers ungodly?18 ασεβης ο λεγων βασιλει παρανομεις ασεβεστατε τοις αρχουσιν
Who accepteth not the persons of princes : nor hath regarded the tyrant, when he contended against the poor man : for all are the work of his hands.19 ος ουκ επησχυνθη προσωπον εντιμου ουδε οιδεν τιμην θεσθαι αδροις θαυμασθηναι προσωπα αυτων
They shall suddenly die, and the people shall be troubled at midnight, and they shall pass, and take away the violent without hand.20 κενα δε αυτοις αποβησεται το κεκραγεναι και δεισθαι ανδρος εχρησαντο γαρ παρανομως εκκλινομενων αδυνατων
For his eyes are upon the ways of men, and he considereth all their steps.21 αυτος γαρ ορατης εστιν εργων ανθρωπων λεληθεν δε αυτον ουδεν ων πρασσουσιν
There is no darkness, and there is no shadow of death, where they may be hid who work iniquity.22 ουδε εσται τοπος του κρυβηναι τους ποιουντας τα ανομα
For it is no longer in the power of man to enter into judgment with God.23 οτι ουκ επ' ανδρα θησει ετι ο γαρ κυριος παντας εφορα
He shall break in pieces many and innumerable, and shall make others to stand in their stead.24 ο καταλαμβανων ανεξιχνιαστα ενδοξα τε και εξαισια ων ουκ εστιν αριθμος
For he knoweth their works : and therefore he shall bring night on them, and they shall be destroyed.25 ο γνωριζων αυτων τα εργα και στρεψει νυκτα και ταπεινωθησονται
He hath struck them, as being wicked, in open sight.26 εσβεσεν δε ασεβεις ορατοι δε εναντιον αυτου
Who as it were on purpose have revolted from him, and would not understand all his ways :27 οτι εξεκλιναν εκ νομου θεου δικαιωματα δε αυτου ουκ επεγνωσαν
So that they caused the cry of the needy to come to him, and he heard the voice of the poor.28 του επαγαγειν επ' αυτον κραυγην πενητος και κραυγην πτωχων εισακουσεται
For when he granteth peace, who is there that can condemn? When he hideth his countenance, who is there that can behold him, whether it regard nations, or all men?29 και αυτος ησυχιαν παρεξει και τις καταδικασεται και κρυψει προσωπον και τις οψεται αυτον και κατα εθνους και κατα ανθρωπου ομου
Who maketh a man that is a hypocrite to reign for the sins of the people?30 βασιλευων ανθρωπον υποκριτην απο δυσκολιας λαου
Seeing then I have spoken of God, I will not hinder thee in thy turn.31 οτι προς τον ισχυρον ο λεγων ειληφα ουκ ενεχυρασω
If I have erred, teach thou me : if I have spoken iniquity, I will add no more.32 ανευ εμαυτου οψομαι συ δειξον μοι ει αδικιαν ηργασαμην ου μη προσθησω
Doth God require it of thee, because it hath displeased thee? for thou begannest to speak, and not I. : but if thou know any thing better, speak.33 μη παρα σου αποτεισει αυτην οτι απωση οτι συ εκλεξη και ουκ εγω και τι εγνως λαλησον
Let men of understanding speak to me, and let a wise man hearken to me.34 διο συνετοι καρδιας ερουσιν ταυτα ανηρ δε σοφος ακηκοεν μου το ρημα
But Job hath spoken foolishly, and his words sound not discipline.35 ιωβ δε ουκ εν συνεσει ελαλησεν τα δε ρηματα αυτου ουκ εν επιστημη
My father, let Job be tried even to the end : cease not from the man of iniquity.36 ου μην δε αλλα μαθε ιωβ μη δως ετι ανταποκρισιν ωσπερ οι αφρονες
Because he addeth blasphemy upon his sins, let him be tied fast in the mean time amongst us : and then let him provoke God to judgment with his speeches.37 ινα μη προσθωμεν εφ' αμαρτιαις ημων ανομια δε εφ' ημιν λογισθησεται πολλα λαλουντων ρηματα εναντιον του κυριου
