LA SACRA BIBBIA	NEW AMERICAN BIBLE
1 Maskil. Di Asaf. O popolo mio, presta attenzione al mio insegnamento, porgi il tuo orecchio alle parole della mia bocca.	1 A maskil of Asaph. Attend, my people, to my teaching; listen to the words of my mouth.
2 Voglio aprire la mia bocca per proferire parabole, rievocare gli arcani dei tempi antichi.	2 I will open my mouth in story, drawing lessons from of old.
3 Quello che abbiamo udito e appreso, quello che ci narrarono i nostri padri	3 We have heard them, we know them; our ancestors have recited them to us.
4 non terremo nascosto ai loro figli, bensì sempre narreremo alla generazione futura le lodi del Signore e la sua potenza e le meraviglie che egli ha compiuto.	4 We do not keep them from our children; we recite them to the next generation, The praiseworthy and mighty deeds of the LORD, the wonders that he performed.
5 Ha stabilito una testimonianza in Giacobbe, ha posto una legge in Israele, con la quale ha comandato ai nostri padri di farle conoscere ai loro figli,	5 God set up a decree in Jacob, established a law in Israel: What he commanded our ancestors, they were to teach their children;
6 affinché le apprenda la generazione futura e i figli che nasceranno sorgano a narrarle ai loro figli,	6 That the next generation might come to know, children yet to be born. In turn they were to recite them to their children,
7 e pongano in Dio la loro fiducia e non dimentichino le opere divine, ma osservino i suoi precetti,	7 that they too might put their trust in God, And not forget the works of God, keeping his commandments.
8 e non siano come i loro padri, generazione caparbia e ribelle, il cui cuore non fu costante e il cui spirito non fu fedele a Dio.	8 They were not to be like their ancestors, a rebellious and defiant generation, A generation whose heart was not constant, whose spirit was not faithful to God,
9 I figli di Efraim che tendono e scoccano l'arco, si voltarono indietro nel giorno della battaglia.	9 Like the ranks of Ephraimite archers, who retreated on the day of battle.
10 Non osservarono l'alleanza di Dio, si rifiutarono di camminare nella sua legge.	10 They did not keep God's covenant; they refused to walk by his law.
11 Dimenticarono le sue opere, le meraviglie che aveva loro mostrato.	11 They forgot his works, the wondrous deeds he had shown them.
12 Davanti ai loro padri egli fece prodigi nel paese d'Egitto, nella campagna di Tanis.	12 In the sight of their ancestors God did wonders, in the land of Egypt, the plain of Zoan.
13 Divise il mare e li fece passare, e le acque ristettero come trattenute da un argine.	13 He split the sea and led them across, piling up the waters rigid as walls.
14 Li guidò con una nube di giorno e tutta la notte con bagliore di fuoco.	14 God led them with a cloud by day, all night with the light of fire.
15 Percosse rupi nel deserto e diede loro da bere come dal grande abisso.	15 He split rock in the desert, gave water to drink, abounding as the deep.
16 Fece scaturire ruscelli dalla roccia, fece scorrere acqua a torrenti.	16 He made streams flow from crags, drew out rivers of water.
17 Eppure quelli peccarono di nuovo contro di lui ribellandosi contro l'Altissimo nel deserto.	17 But they went on sinning against him, rebelling against the Most High in the desert.
18 Tentarono Dio nel loro cuore chiedendo cibo per le loro brame.	18 They tested God in their hearts, demanding the food they craved.
19 Mormorarono contro Dio dicendo: "Potrà forse Dio imbandire una mensa nel deserto?".	19 They spoke against God, and said, "Can God spread a table in the desert?
20 Ecco: percosse una rupe, ne scaturì acqua e strariparono torrenti. "Potrà forse dare anche del pane o procurare carne per il suo popolo?".	20 True, when he struck the rock, water gushed forth, the wadis flooded. But can he also provide bread, give meat to his people?"
21 Li udì il Signore e ne fu irritato e un fuoco divampò contro Giacobbe e l'ira esplose contro Israele,	21 The LORD heard and grew angry; fire blazed up against Jacob; anger flared up against Israel.
22 poiché non ebbero fede in Dio e non ebbero speranza nella sua salvezza.	22 For they did not believe in God, did not trust in his saving power.
23 Tuttavia comandò alle nubi dall'alto e aprì le porte del cielo	23 So he commanded the skies above; the doors of heaven he opened.
24 e fece piovere su di loro manna da mangiare, un frumento celeste diede loro.	24 God rained manna upon them for food; bread from heaven he gave them.
25 Un pane di forti mangiò ciascuno, una provvigione abbondante inviò per loro.	25 All ate a meal fit for heroes; food he sent in abundance.
26 Scatenò dal cielo il vento d'oriente, fece soffiare con veemenza il vento del sud;	26 He stirred up the east wind in the heavens; by his power God brought on the south wind.
27 fece piovere su di essi carne come polvere e come sabbia del mare volatili;	27 He rained meat upon them like dust, winged fowl like the sands of the sea,
28 li fece cadere in mezzo al loro accampamento, tutt'intorno alle loro tende.	28 Brought them down in the midst of the camp, round about their tents.
29 Essi ne mangiarono e rimasero ben sazi, furono soddisfatti nel loro desiderio.	29 They ate and were well filled; he gave them what they had craved.
30 Non si erano nauseati della loro brama, il loro cibo era ancora nella loro bocca,	30 But while they still wanted more, and the food was still in their mouths,
31 e l'ira del Signore piombò su di loro, fece strage fra essi dei più vigorosi e abbatté fra i più scelti d'Israele.	31 God's anger attacked them, killed their best warriors, laid low the youth of Israel.
32 Con tutto questo peccarono ancora, non prestarono fede ai suoi prodigi.	32 In spite of all this they went on sinning, they did not believe in his wonders.
33 Allora dissipò come polvere i loro giorni e con terrore improvviso i loro anni.	33 God ended their days abruptly, their years in sudden death.
34 Quando li faceva morire, lo cercavano, si convertivano e si rivolgevano a Dio;	34 When he slew them, they began to seek him; they again inquired of their God.
35 si ricordavano che soltanto Dio era la loro roccia, Dio l'Altissimo, il loro redentore.	35 They remembered that God was their rock, God Most High, their redeemer.
36 Ma essi lo lusingavano con la loro bocca, lo ingannavano con la loro lingua,	36 But they deceived him with their mouths, lied to him with their tongues.
37 mentre il loro cuore non era sincero con lui e non si mostravano fedeli alla sua alleanza.	37 Their hearts were not constant toward him; they were not faithful to his covenant.
38 Ed egli si lasciava impietosire e perdonava la colpa e non li distruggeva. Molte volte tratteneva la sua ira e non suscitava tutto il suo furore;	38 But God is merciful and forgave their sin; he did not utterly destroy them. Time and again he turned back his anger, unwilling to unleash all his rage.
39 si ricordava che essi erano esseri mortali, un soffio che va e non ritorna.	39 He was mindful that they were flesh, a breath that passes and does not return.
40 Quante volte nel deserto si ribellarono a Dio, quante volte lo irritarono nella steppa!	40 How often they rebelled against God in the desert, grieved him in the wasteland.
41 Ripetutamente tentarono Dio, esasperarono il Santo d'Israele.	41 Again and again they tested God, provoked the Holy One of Israel.
42 Non si ricordarono della sua potenza, del giorno in cui li riscattò dall'oppressione,	42 They did not remember his power, the day he redeemed them from the foe,
43 di lui che fece prodigi in Egitto e portenti nella campagna di Tanis.	43 When he displayed his wonders in Egypt, his marvels in the plain of Zoan.
44 Mutò infatti i loro fiumi in sangue affinché non bevessero dai loro ruscelli.	44 God changed their rivers to blood; their streams they could not drink.
45 Mandò in mezzo a loro tafani che li divorassero e rane che li molestassero.	45 He sent insects that devoured them, frogs that destroyed them.
46 Diede alle locuste i loro raccolti e ai bruchi il frutto delle loro fatiche.	46 He gave their harvest to the caterpillar, the fruits of their labor to the locust.
47 Distrusse con la grandine i loro vigneti e i loro sicomori con la brina.	47 He killed their vines with hail, their sycamores with frost.
48 Consegnò alla peste il loro bestiame e alle saette i loro averi.	48 He exposed their flocks to deadly hail, their cattle to lightning.
49 Scatenò fra essi il furore della sua ira: collera, sdegno e sventura con l'invio di messaggeri di rovina.	49 He unleashed against them his fiery breath, roar, fury, and distress, storming messengers of death.
50 Lasciò alla sua ira tutto il suo corso, la loro anima non risparmiò dalla morte e diede la loro vita in preda alla peste;	50 He cleared a path for his anger; he did not spare them from death; he delivered their beasts to the plague.
51 e colpì in Egitto ogni primogenito, la primizia del loro vigore nelle tende di Cam.	51 He struck all the firstborn of Egypt, love's first child in the tents of Ham.
52 E portò via il suo popolo come un gregge e come una mandria lo condusse nel deserto.	52 God led forth his people like sheep; he guided them through the desert like a flock.
53 Li guidò al sicuro, sì che non avessero paura, mentre i loro nemici li sommerse il mare.	53 He led them on secure and unafraid, but the sea enveloped their enemies.
54 Li fece giungere alla sua santa regione, al monte che la sua destra si era acquistato.	54 He brought them to his holy land, the mountain his right hand had won.
55 Scacciò le genti davanti a loro e distribuì con la sorte l'eredità fra loro e fece abitare nelle loro tende le tribù d'Israele.	55 God drove out the nations before them, apportioned them a heritage by lot, settled the tribes of Israel in their tents.
56 E ancora lo tentarono, si ribellarono a Dio, l'Altissimo, e non osservarono i suoi precetti.	56 But they tested, rebelled against God Most High, his decrees they did not observe.
57 Deviarono, si mostrarono infedeli come i loro padri, vennero meno, come un arco che fallisce.	57 They turned back, deceitful like their ancestors; they proved false like a bow with no tension.
58 Lo provocarono con le loro alture e con i loro idoli l'ingelosirono.	58 They enraged him with their high places; with their idols they goaded him.
59 Dio udì e ne fu irritato e rigettò Israele completamente.	59 God heard and grew angry; he rejected Israel completely.
60 Abbandonò il tabernacolo di Silo, la tenda della sua dimora fra gli uomini.	60 He forsook the shrine at Shiloh, the tent where he dwelt with humans.
61 Ridusse in schiavitù il suo vigore, la sua gloria in potere del nemico.	61 He gave up his might into captivity, his glorious ark into the hands of the foe.
62 Consegnò alla spada il suo popolo, si adirò contro la sua eredità.	62 God abandoned his people to the sword; he was enraged against his heritage.
63 Divorò il fuoco la sua gioventù e le sue vergini non ne fecero lamento.	63 Fire consumed their young men; their young women heard no wedding songs.
64 I suoi sacerdoti caddero di spada e le sue vedove non ne fecero lutto.	64 Their priests fell by the sword; their widows made no lamentation.
65 Ma poi si destò il Signore come da un sonno, come un prode assopito nel vino.	65 Then the Lord awoke as from sleep, like a warrior from the effects of wine.
66 E colpì alle spalle i suoi nemici, li ricoprì d'eterna ignominia.	66 He put his enemies to flight; everlasting shame he dealt them.
67 Ripudiò la tenda di Giuseppe e sulla tribù di Efraim non cadde la sua scelta.	67 He rejected the tent of Joseph, chose not the tribe of Ephraim.
68 Scelse invece la tribù di Giuda, il monte Sion, l'oggetto del suo amore.	68 God chose the tribe of Judah, Mount Zion which he favored.
69 Costruì il suo santuario come il cielo e come la terra lo rese stabile in eterno.	69 He built his shrine like the heavens, like the earth which he founded forever.
70 Si scelse Davide, suo servo, e lo assunse da ovili di pecore;	70 He chose David his servant, took him from the sheepfold.
71 da dietro le pecore allattanti lo chiamò, perché pascesse Giacobbe, suo popolo, e Israele, la sua eredità.	71 From tending sheep God brought him, to shepherd Jacob, his people, Israel, his heritage.
72 Egli lo fece pascere secondo l'integrità del suo cuore e fu loro guida con la destrezza delle sue mani.	72 He shepherded them with a pure heart; with skilled hands he guided them.
