LA SACRA BIBBIA	CATHOLIC PUBLIC DOMAIN
1 Allora il Signore rispose a Giobbe di mezzo al turbine così:	1 But the Lord, responding to Job from a whirlwind, said:
2 "Chi è colui che denigra la provvidenza con parole insensate?	2 Who is this that wraps sentences in unskilled words?
3 Cingiti i fianchi come un prode: ti interrogherò e tu mi istruirai.	3 Gird your waist like a man. I will question you, and you must answer me.
4 Dov'eri quando io mettevo le basi della terra? Dillo, se hai tanta sapienza!	4 Where were you, when I set the foundations of the earth? Tell me, if you have understanding.
5 Chi fissò le sue proporzioni, se lo sai, e chi tracciò per essa la linea?	5 Who set its measurements, if you know, or who stretched a line over it?
6 Dove affondano i suoi pilastri, o chi pose la sua pietra angolare,	6 Upon what have its bases been grounded, and who set forth its cornerstone,
7 mentre le stelle del mattino giubilavano unite, e plaudivano tutti i figli di Dio?	7 when the morning stars praised me together, and all the sons of God made a joyful noise?
8 Chi racchiuse tra due battenti il mare, quando uscì impetuoso dal seno materno,	8 Who enclosed the sea with doors, when it broke forth as if issuing from the womb,
9 quando gli diedi le nubi per vestirsi e la foschia per fasciarsi?	9 when I stationed a cloud as its garment and wrapped it in a mist as if swaddling an infant?
10 Poi gli imposi un limite, fissando catenacci e porte.	10 I encircled it with my limits, and I positioned its bars and doors.
11 E gli ingiunsi: "Fin qui arriverai e non oltre, qui si arresterà la superbia delle tue onde!".	11 And I said: “This far you will approach, and you will proceeded no further, and here you will break your swelling waves.”
12 Hai tu un solo dei tuoi giorni comandato al mattino e assegnato all'aurora il suo posto,	12 Did you, after your birth, command the birth of the sun and show the sunrise its place?
13 perché afferri la terra ai suoi angoli e ne scuota i malvagi?	13 And did you hold the extremities of the earth, shaking them, and have you shaken the impious out of it?
14 Allora la terra si trasforma come creta sotto il sigillo, e si tinge come un vestito.	14 The seal will be restored like clay, and it will remain in place like a garment.
15 Allora è negata al malvagio la luce di essa ed è spezzato il braccio altero.	15 From the impious, the light will be taken away, and the exalted arm will be broken.
16 Sei mai giunto alle sorgenti del mare, o hai passeggiato sul fondo dell'abisso?	16 Have you entered the depths of the sea, and have you taken a walk in the uttermost parts of the abyss?
17 Ti sono state indicate le porte della morte e hai visto i portali dell'ombra funerea?	17 Have the gates of death been opened to you, and have you seen the doors of darkness?
18 Ti sei reso conto dell'ampiezza della terra? Dillo, se sai tutto questo!	18 Have you considered the breadth of the earth? If you know all things, reveal them to me.
19 Per quale via si va dove abita la luce? e le tenebre dove hanno dimora?	19 Which is the way that holds the light, and which is the place of darkness?
20 Potresti tu condurle al loro posto, dato che conosci il sentiero delle loro case?	20 In this way, you might lead each thing to its final place, and understand the paths of its house.
21 Tu lo sai, perché allora eri già nato, ed il numero dei tuoi anni è assai grande.	21 So then, did you know when you were to be born? And did you know the number of your days?
22 Sei mai entrato nei serbatoi della neve, hai potuto vedere i depositi della grandine,	22 Have you been admitted into the storehouses of the snows, and have you gazed upon the stockpile of the brimstone,
23 che io tengo in serbo per il tempo della tribolazione, per il giorno di lotta e di battaglia?	23 which I have prepared for the time of the enemy, for the day of the battle and the war?
24 Da quale parte si diffonde la luce? Per dove lo scirocco invade la terra?	24 In what way is the light scattered, and the heat distributed, over the earth?
25 Chi ha scavato il canale per le acque torrenziali, e una strada alla nube tonante,	25 Who gave a course to the rainstorms, and a path to the resounding thunder,
26 per far piovere su una terra disabitata, su un deserto, dove non c'è uomo,	26 so that it would rain on the earth far from man, in the wilderness where no mortal lingers,
27 per saziare regioni desolate e squallide e far germogliare e spuntare l'erba?	27 so that it would fill impassable and desolate places, and would bring forth green plants?
28 La pioggia ha forse un padre? Chi genera le gocce di rugiada?	28 Who is the father of rain, or who conceived the drops of dew?
29 Da quale seno è nato il ghiaccio, e la brina del cielo chi l'ha generata?	29 From whose womb did the ice proceed, and who created the frost from the air?
30 Le acque si solidificano come pietra e la faccia dell'abisso si raggela.	30 The waters are hardened to become like stone, and the surface of the abyss freezes over.
31 Puoi tu annodare i legami delle Pleiadi, o sciogliere i vincoli di Orione?	31 Will you have the strength to join together the sparkling stars of the Pleiades, or are you able to disperse the circling of Arcturus?
32 Fai tu spuntare la costellazione a suo tempo, e guidi tu l'Orsa con i suoi piccini?	32 Can you bring forth the morning star, in its time, and make the evening star rise over the sons of the earth?
33 Conosci forse le leggi del cielo e determini tu i loro influssi sulla terra?	33 Do you know the order of heaven, and can you explain its rules here on the earth?
34 Puoi tu dar ordini alle nubi, perché una massa d'acqua ti inondi?	34 Can you lift up your voice to the clouds, so that an onslaught of waters will cover you?
35 Scagli tu i fulmini e partono dicendoti: "Eccoci"?	35 Can you send forth lightning bolts, and will they go, and on returning, say to you: “Here we are?”
36 Chi ha concesso all'ibis la sapienza, e chi ha dato al gallo intelligenza?	36 Who placed discernment in the guts of man, or who gave the rooster intelligence?
37 Chi può contare le nubi con esattezza, e chi riversa gli otri del cielo,	37 Who can describe the rules of the heavens, or who can put to rest the harmony of heaven?
38 quando la polvere si fonde in una massa e le zolle si attaccano insieme?	38 When was the dust cast to become the earth, and when were its clods fastened together?
39 Vai tu a caccia di preda per la leonessa e sazi la fame dei leoncelli,	39 Will you seize prey for the lioness, and will you sustain the lives of her young,
40 quando sono accovacciati nelle tane, o stanno in agguato fra le macchie?	40 as they rest in their dens or lie in wait in pits?
41 Chi procaccia il nutrimento al corvo, quando i suoi nati gridano verso Dio e si agitano per mancanza di cibo?	41 Who provides the raven with its meal, when her chicks cry out to God, as they wander around because they have no food?
