NEW AMERICAN BIBLEGREEK BIBLE
My son, if you have sinned, do so no more, and for your past sins pray to be forgiven.1 τεκνον ημαρτες μη προσθης μηκετι και περι των προτερων σου δεηθητι
Flee from sin as from a serpent. that will bite you if you go near it; Its teeth are lion's teeth, destroying the souls of men.2 ως απο προσωπου οφεως φευγε απο αμαρτιας εαν γαρ προσελθης δηξεται σε οδοντες λεοντος οι οδοντες αυτης αναιρουντες ψυχας ανθρωπων
Every offense is a two-edged sword; when it cuts, there can be no healing.3 ως ρομφαια διστομος πασα ανομια τη πληγη αυτης ουκ εστιν ιασις
Violence and arrogance wipe out wealth; so too a proud man's home is destroyed.4 καταπληγμος και υβρις ερημωσουσιν πλουτον ουτως οικος υπερηφανου ερημωθησεται
Prayer from a poor man's lips is heard at once, and justice is quickly granted him.5 δεησις πτωχου εκ στοματος εως ωτιων αυτου και το κριμα αυτου κατα σπουδην ερχεται
He who hates correction walks the sinner's path, but he who fears the LORD repents in his heart.6 μισων ελεγμον εν ιχνει αμαρτωλου και ο φοβουμενος κυριον επιστρεψει εν καρδια
Widely known is the boastful speaker but the wise man knows his own faults.7 γνωστος μακροθεν ο δυνατος εν γλωσση ο δε νοημων οιδεν εν τω ολισθανειν αυτον
He who builds his house with another's money is collecting stones for his funeral mound.8 ο οικοδομων την οικιαν αυτου εν χρημασιν αλλοτριοις ως συναγων αυτου τους λιθους εις χειμωνα
A band of criminals is like a bundle of tow; they will end in a flaming fire.9 στιππυον συνηγμενον συναγωγη ανομων και η συντελεια αυτων φλοξ πυρος
The path of sinners is smooth stones that end in the depths of the nether world.10 οδος αμαρτωλων ωμαλισμενη εκ λιθων και επ' εσχατων αυτης βοθρος αδου
He who keeps the law controls his impulses; he who is perfect in fear of the LORD has wisdom.11 ο φυλασσων νομον κατακρατει του εννοηματος αυτου και συντελεια του φοβου κυριου σοφια
He can never be taught who is not shrewd, but one form of shrewdness is thoroughly bitter.12 ου παιδευθησεται ος ουκ εστιν πανουργος εστιν δε πανουργια πληθυνουσα πικριαν
A wise man's knowledge wells up in a flood, and his counsel, like a living spring;13 γνωσις σοφου ως κατακλυσμος πληθυνθησεται και η βουλη αυτου ως πηγη ζωης
A fool's mind is like a broken jar-- no knowledge at all can it hold.14 εγκατα μωρου ως αγγειον συντετριμμενον και πασαν γνωσιν ου κρατησει
When an intelligent man hears words of wisdom, he approves them and adds to them; The wanton hears them with scorn and casts them behind his back.15 λογον σοφον εαν ακουση επιστημων αινεσει αυτον και επ' αυτον προσθησει ηκουσεν ο σπαταλων και απηρεσεν αυτω και απεστρεψεν αυτον οπισω του νωτου αυτου
A fool's chatter is like a load on a journey, but there is charm to be found upon the lips of the wise.16 εξηγησις μωρου ως εν οδω φορτιον επι δε χειλους συνετου ευρεθησεται χαρις
The views of a prudent man are sought in an assembly, and his words are considered with care.17 στομα φρονιμου ζητηθησεται εν εκκλησια και τους λογους αυτου διανοηθησονται εν καρδια
Like a house in ruins is wisdom to a fool; the stupid man knows it only as inscrutable words.18 ως οικος ηφανισμενος ουτως μωρω σοφια και γνωσις ασυνετου αδιεξεταστοι λογοι
Like fetters on the legs is learning to a fool, like a manacle on his right hand.19 πεδαι εν ποσιν ανοητου παιδεια και ως χειροπεδαι επι χειρος δεξιας
A fool raises his voice in laughter, but the prudent man at the most smiles gently.20 μωρος εν γελωτι ανυψοι φωνην αυτου ανηρ δε πανουργος μολις ησυχη μειδιασει
Like a chain of gold is learning to a wise man, like a bracelet on his right arm.21 ως κοσμος χρυσους φρονιμω παιδεια και ως χλιδων επι βραχιονι δεξιω
The fool steps boldly into a house, while the well-bred man remains outside;22 πους μωρου ταχυς εις οικιαν ανθρωπος δε πολυπειρος αισχυνθησεται απο προσωπου
A boor peeps through the doorway of a house, but a cultured man keeps his glance cast down.23 αφρων απο θυρας παρακυπτει εις οικιαν ανηρ δε πεπαιδευμενος εξω στησεται
It is rude for one to listen at a door; a cultured man would be overwhelmed by the disgrace of it.24 απαιδευσια ανθρωπου ακροασθαι παρα θυραν ο δε φρονιμος βαρυνθησεται ατιμια
The lips of the impious talk of what is not their concern, but the words of the prudent are carefully weighed.25 χειλη αλλοτριων εν τουτοις διηγησονται λογοι δε φρονιμων εν ζυγω σταθησονται
Fools' thoughts are in their mouths, wise men's words are in their hearts.26 εν στοματι μωρων η καρδια αυτων καρδια δε σοφων στομα αυτων
When a godless man curses his adversary he really curses himself.27 εν τω καταρασθαι ασεβη τον σαταναν αυτος καταραται την εαυτου ψυχην
A slanderer besmirches himself, and is hated by his neighbors.28 μολυνει την εαυτου ψυχην ο ψιθυριζων και εν παροικησει μισηθησεται
