Proverbs 5

1 My son, to my wisdom be attentive, to my knowledge incline your ear,	1 Meu filho, atende à minha sabedoria, presta atenção à minha razão,
2 That discretion may watch over you, and understanding may guard you.	2 a fim de conservares o sentido das coisas e guardares a ciência em teus lábios.
3 The lips of an adulteress drip with honey, and her mouth is smoother than oil;	3 Porque os lábios da mulher alheia destilam o mel; seu paladar é mais oleoso que o azeite.
4 But in the end she is as bitter as wormwood, as sharp as a two-edged sword.	4 No fim, porém, é amarga como o absinto, aguda como a espada de dois gumes.
5 Her feet go down to death, to the nether world her steps attain;	5 Seus pés se encaminham para a morte, seus passos atingem a região dos mortos.
6 Lest you see before you the road to life, her paths will ramble, you know not where.	6 Longe de andarem pela vereda da vida, seus passos se extraviam, sem saber para onde.
7 So now, O children, listen to me, go not astray from the words of my mouth.	7 Escutai-me, pois, meus filhos, não vos aparteis das palavras de minha boca.
8 Keep your way far from her, approach not the door of her house,	8 Afasta dela teu caminho, não te aproximes da porta de sua casa,
9 Lest you give your honor to others, and your years to a merciless one;	9 para que não seja entregue a outros tua fortuna e tua vida a um homem cruel;
10 Lest strangers have their fill of your wealth, your hard-won earnings go to an alien's house;	10 para que estranhos não se fartem de teus haveres e o fruto de teu trabalho não passe para a casa alheia;
11 And you groan in the end, when your flesh and your body are consumed;	11 para que não gemas no fim, quando forem consumidas tuas carnes e teu corpo
12 And you say, "Oh, why did I hate instruction, and my heart spurn reproof!	12 e tiveres que dizer: Por que odiei a disciplina, e meu coração desdenhou a correção?
13 Why did I not listen to the voice of my teachers, nor to my instructors incline my ear!	13 Por que não ouvi a voz de meus mestres, nem dei ouvido aos meus educadores?
14 I have all but come to utter ruin, condemned by the public assembly!"	14 Por pouco eu chegaria ao cúmulo da desgraça no meio da assembléia do povo.
15 Drink water from your own cistern, running water from your own well.	15 Bebe a água do teu poço e das correntes de tua cisterna.
16 How may your water sources be dispersed abroad, streams of water in the streets?	16 Derramar-se-ão tuas fontes por fora e teus arroios nas ruas?
17 Let your fountain be yours alone, not one shared with strangers;	17 Sejam eles para ti só, sem que os estranhos neles tomem parte.
18 And have joy of the wife of your youth,	18 Seja bendita a tua fonte! Regozija-te com a mulher de tua juventude,
19 your lovely hind, your graceful doe. Her love will invigorate you always, through her love you will flourish continually, (6:22) When you lie down she will watch over you, and when you wake, she will share your concerns; wherever you turn, she will guide you.	19 corça de amor, serva encantadora. Que sejas sempre embriagado com seus encantos e que seus amores te embriaguem sem cessar!
20 Why then, my son, should you go astray for another's wife and accept the embraces of an adulteress?	20 Por que hás de te enamorar de uma alheia e abraçar o seio de uma estranha?
21 For each man's ways are plain to the LORD'S sight; all their paths he surveys;	21 Pois o Senhor olha os caminhos dos homens e observa todas as suas veredas.
22 By his own iniquities the wicked man will be caught, in the meshes of his own sin he will be held fast;	22 O homem será preso por suas próprias faltas e ligado com as cadeias de seu pecado.
23 He will die from lack of discipline, through the greatness of his folly he will be lost.	23 Perecerá por falta de correção e se desviará pelo excesso de sua loucura.
