KING JAMES BIBLENEW AMERICAN BIBLE
I will sing of the mercies of the LORD for ever: with my mouth will I make known thy faithfulness to all generations.1 A maskil of Ethan the Ezrahite.
For I have said, Mercy shall be built up for ever: thy faithfulness shalt thou establish in the very heavens.2 The promises of the LORD I will sing forever, proclaim your loyalty through all ages.
I have made a covenant with my chosen, I have sworn unto David my servant,3 For you said, "My love is established forever; my loyalty will stand as long as the heavens.
Thy seed will I establish for ever, and build up thy throne to all generations. Selah.4 I have made a covenant with my chosen one; I have sworn to David my servant:
And the heavens shall praise thy wonders, O LORD: thy faithfulness also in the congregation of the saints.5 I will make your dynasty stand forever and establish your throne through all ages." Selah
For who in the heaven can be compared unto the LORD? who among the sons of the mighty can be likened unto the LORD?6 The heavens praise your marvels, LORD, your loyalty in the assembly of the holy ones.
God is greatly to be feared in the assembly of the saints, and to be had in reverence of all them that are about him.7 Who in the skies ranks with the LORD? Who is like the LORD among the gods?
O LORD God of hosts, who is a strong LORD like unto thee? or to thy faithfulness round about thee?8 A God dreaded in the council of the holy ones, greater and more awesome than all who sit there!
Thou rulest the raging of the sea: when the waves thereof arise, thou stillest them.9 LORD, God of hosts, who is like you? Mighty LORD, your loyalty is always present.
Thou hast broken Rahab in pieces, as one that is slain; thou hast scattered thine enemies with thy strong arm.10 You rule the raging sea; you still its swelling waves.
The heavens are thine, the earth also is thine: as for the world and the fulness thereof, thou hast founded them.11 You crushed Rahab with a mortal blow; your strong arm scattered your foes.
The north and the south thou hast created them: Tabor and Hermon shall rejoice in thy name.12 Yours are the heavens, yours the earth; you founded the world and everything in it.
Thou hast a mighty arm: strong is thy hand, and high is thy right hand.13 Zaphon and Amanus you created; Tabor and Hermon rejoice in your name.
Justice and judgment are the habitation of thy throne: mercy and truth shall go before thy face.14 Mighty your arm, strong your hand, your right hand is ever exalted.
Blessed is the people that know the joyful sound: they shall walk, O LORD, in the light of thy countenance.15 Justice and judgment are the foundation of your throne; love and loyalty march before you.
In thy name shall they rejoice all the day: and in thy righteousness shall they be exalted.16 Happy the people who know you, LORD, who walk in the radiance of your face.
For thou art the glory of their strength: and in thy favour our horn shall be exalted.17 In your name they sing joyfully all the day; at your victory they raise the festal shout.
For the LORD is our defence; and the Holy One of Israel is our king.18 You are their majestic strength; by your favor our horn is exalted.
Then thou spakest in vision to thy holy one, and saidst, I have laid help upon one that is mighty; I have exalted one chosen out of the people.19 Truly the LORD is our shield, the Holy One of Israel, our king!
I have found David my servant; with my holy oil have I anointed him:20 Once you spoke in vision; to your faithful ones you said: "I have set a leader over the warriors; I have raised up a hero from the army.
With whom my hand shall be established: mine arm also shall strengthen him.21 I have chosen David, my servant; with my holy oil I have anointed him.
The enemy shall not exact upon him; nor the son of wickedness afflict him.22 My hand will be with him; my arm will make him strong.
And I will beat down his foes before his face, and plague them that hate him.23 No enemy shall outwit him, nor shall the wicked defeat him.
But my faithfulness and my mercy shall be with him: and in my name shall his horn be exalted.24 I will crush his foes before him, strike down those who hate him.
I will set his hand also in the sea, and his right hand in the rivers.25 My loyalty and love will be with him; through my name his horn will be exalted.
He shall cry unto me, Thou art my father, my God, and the rock of my salvation.26 I will set his hand upon the sea, his right hand upon the rivers.
Also I will make him my firstborn, higher than the kings of the earth.27 He shall cry to me,'You are my father, my God, the Rock that brings me victory!'
My mercy will I keep for him for evermore, and my covenant shall stand fast with him.28 I myself make him firstborn, Most High over the kings of the earth.
His seed also will I make to endure for ever, and his throne as the days of heaven.29 Forever I will maintain my love for him; my covenant with him stands firm.
If his children forsake my law, and walk not in my judgments;30 I will establish his dynasty forever, his throne as the days of the heavens.
If they break my statutes, and keep not my commandments;31 If his descendants forsake my law, do not follow my decrees,
Then will I visit their transgression with the rod, and their iniquity with stripes.32 If they fail to observe my statutes, do not keep my commandments,
Nevertheless my lovingkindness will I not utterly take from him, nor suffer my faithfulness to fail.33 I will punish their crime with a rod and their guilt with lashes.
My covenant will I not break, nor alter the thing that is gone out of my lips.34 But I will not take my love from him, nor will I betray my bond of loyalty.
Once have I sworn by my holiness that I will not lie unto David.35 I will not violate my covenant; the promise of my lips I will not alter.
His seed shall endure forever, and his throne as the sun before me.36 By my holiness I swore once for all: I will never be false to David.
It shall be established for ever as the moon, and as a faithful witness in heaven. Selah.37 His dynasty will continue forever, his throne, like the sun before me.
But thou hast cast off and abhorred, thou hast been wroth with thine anointed.38 Like the moon it will stand eternal, forever firm like the sky!" Selah
Thou hast made void the covenant of thy servant: thou hast profaned his crown by casting it to the ground.39 But now you have rejected and spurned, been enraged at your anointed.
Thou hast broken down all his hedges; thou hast brought his strong holds to ruin.40 You renounced the covenant with your servant, defiled his crown in the dust.
All that pass by the way spoil him: he is a reproach to his neighbours.41 You broke down all his defenses, left his strongholds in ruins.
Thou hast set up the right hand of his adversaries; thou hast made all his enemies to rejoice.42 All who pass through seize plunder; his neighbors deride him.
Thou hast also turned the edge of his sword, and hast not made him to stand in the battle.43 You have exalted the right hand of his foes, have gladdened all his enemies.
Thou hast made his glory to cease, and cast his throne down to the ground.44 You turned back his sharp sword, did not support him in battle.
The days of his youth hast thou shortened: thou hast covered him with shame. Selah.45 You brought to an end his splendor, hurled his throne to the ground.
How long, LORD? wilt thou hide thyself for ever? shall thy wrath burn like fire?46 You cut short the days of his youth, covered him with shame. Selah
Remember how short my time is: wherefore hast thou made all men in vain?47 How long, LORD? Will you stay hidden forever? Must your wrath smolder like fire?
What man is he that liveth, and shall not see death? shall he deliver his soul from the hand of the grave? Selah.48 Remember how brief is my life, how frail the race you created!
Lord, where are thy former lovingkindnesses, which thou swarest unto David in thy truth?49 What mortal can live and not see death? Who can escape the power of Sheol? Selah
Remember, Lord, the reproach of thy servants; how I do bear in my bosom the reproach of all the mighty people;50 Where are your promises of old, Lord, the loyalty sworn to David?
Wherewith thine enemies have reproached, O LORD; wherewith they have reproached the footsteps of thine anointed.51 Remember, Lord, the insults to your servants, how I bear all the slanders of the nations.
Blessed be the LORD for evermore. Amen, and Amen.52 Your enemies, LORD, insult your anointed; they insult my every endeavor.
Blessed be the LORD forever! Amen and amen!
