1 Elogiemos a los hombres ilustres, a los antepasados de nuestra raza.	1 Now will I praise those godly men, our ancestors, each in his own time:
2 El Señor los colmó de gloria, manifestó su grandeza desde tiempos remotos.	2 The abounding glory of the Most High's portion, his own part, since the days of old. Subduers of the land in kingly fashion, men of renown for their might,
3 Algunos ejercieron la autoridad real y se hicieron famosos por sus proezas; otros fueron consejeros por su inteligencia, transmitieron oráculos proféticos,	3 Or counselors in their prudence, or seers of all things in prophecy;
4 guiaron al pueblo con sus consejos, con su inteligencia para instruirlo y con las sabias palabras de su enseñanza;	4 Resolute princes of the folk, and governors with their staves; Authors skilled in composition, and forgers of epigrams with their spikes;
5 otros compusieron cantos melodiosos y escribieron relatos poéticos;	5 Composers of melodious psalms, or discoursers on lyric themes;
6 otros fueron hombres ricos, llenos de poder, que vivían en paz en sus moradas.	6 Stalwart men, solidly established and at peace in their own estates--
7 Todos ellos fueron honrados por sus contemporáneos y constituyeron el orgullo de su época.	7 All these were glorious in their time, each illustrious in his day.
8 Algunos de ellos dejaron un nombre y se los menciona todavía con elogios.	8 Some of them have left behind a name and men recount their praiseworthy deeds;
9 Pero hay otros que cayeron en el olvido y desaparecieron como si no hubieran existido; pasaron como si no hubieran nacido, igual que sus hijos después de ellos.	9 But of others there is no memory, for when they ceased, they ceased. And they are as though they had not lived, they and their children after them.
10 No sucede así con aquellos, los hombres de bien, cuyas obras de justicia no han sido olvidadas.	10 Yet these also were godly men whose virtues have not been forgotten;
11 Con su descendencia se perpetúa la rica herencia que procede de ellos.	11 Their wealth remains in their families, their heritage with their descendants;
12 Su descendencia fue fiel a las alianzas y también sus nietos, gracias a ellos.	12 Through God's covenant with them their family endures, their posterity, for their sake.
13 Su descendencia permanecerá para siempre, y su gloria no se extinguirá.	13 And for all time their progeny will endure, their glory will never be blotted out;
14 Sus cuerpos fueron sepultados en paz, y su nombre sobrevive a través de las generaciones.	14 Their bodies are peacefully laid away, but their name lives on and on.
15 Los pueblos proclaman su sabiduría, y la asamblea anuncia su alabanza.	15 At gatherings their wisdom is retold, and the assembly proclaims their praise.
16 Henoc agradó al Señor y fue trasladado, él es modelo de conversión para las generaciones futuras.	16 [ENOCH walked with the LORD and was taken up, that succeeding generations might learn by his example.]
17 Noé fue hallado perfectamente justo, en el tiempo de la ira sirvió de renovación: gracias a él, quedó un resto en la tierra, cuando se desencadenó el diluvio.	17 NOAH, found just and perfect, renewed the race in the time of devastation. Because of his worth there were survivors, and with a sign to him the deluge ended;
18 Alianzas eternas fueron selladas con él, para que nunca más un diluvio destruyera a los vivientes.	18 A lasting agreement was made with him, that never should all flesh be destroyed.
19 Abraham es padre insigne de una multitud de naciones, y no hubo nadie que lo igualara en su gloria.	19 ABRAHAM, father of many peoples, kept his glory without stain:
20 El observó la Ley del Altísimo y entró en alianza con él; puso en su carne la señal de esta alianza y en la prueba fue hallado fiel.	20 He observed the precepts of the Most High, and entered into an agreement with him; In his own flesh he incised the ordinance, and when tested he was found loyal.
21 Por eso, Dios le aseguró con un juramento que las naciones serían bendecidas en su descendencia, que lo multiplicaría como el polvo de la tierra, que exaltaría a sus descendientes como las estrellas, y les daría en herencia el país, desde un mar hasta el otro y desde el Río hasta los confines de la tierra.	21 For this reason, God promised him with an oath that in his descendants the nations would be blessed, That he would make him numerous as the grains of dust, and exalt his posterity like the stars; That he would give them an inheritance from sea to sea, and from the River to the ends of the earth.
22 A Isaac, le hizo la misma promesa, a causa de su padre Abraham.	22 And for ISAAC he renewed the same promise because of Abraham, his father. The covenant with all his forebears was confirmed, and the blessing rested upon the head of JACOB.
23 La bendición de todos los hombres y la alianza las hizo descansar sobre la cabeza de Jacob; lo confirmó en las bendiciones recibidas y le dio la tierra en herencia; dividió el país en partes y las distribuyó entre las doce tribus.	23 God acknowledged him as the first-born, and gave him his inheritance. He fixed the boundaries for his tribes, and their division into twelve.
