1 El Señor respondió a Job desde la tempestad, diciendo:	1 Then the LORD addressed Job out of the storm and said:
2 ¿Quién es ese que oscurece mi designio con palabras desprovistas de sentido?	2 Who is this that obscures divine plans with words of ignorance?
3 ¡Ajústate el cinturón como un guerrero: yo te preguntaré, y tú me instruirás!	3 Gird up your loins now, like a man; I will question you, and you tell me the answers!
4 ¿Dónde estabas cuando yo fundaba la tierra? Indícalo, si eres capaz de entender.	4 Where were you when I founded the earth? Tell me, if you have understanding.
5 Quién fijó sus medidas? ¿Lo sabes acaso? ¿Quién tendió sobre ella la cuerda para medir?	5 Who determined its size; do you know? Who stretched out the measuring line for it?
6 ¿Sobre qué fueron hundidos sus pilares o quién asentó su piedra angular,	6 Into what were its pedestals sunk, and who laid the cornerstone,
7 mientras los astros de la mañana cantaban a coro y aclamaban todos los hijos de Dios?	7 While the morning stars sang in chorus and all the sons of God shouted for joy?
8 ¿Quién encerró con dos puertas al mar, cuando él salía a borbotones del seno materno,	8 And who shut within doors the sea, when it burst forth from the womb;
9 cuando le puse una nube por vestido y por pañales, densos nubarrones?	9 When I made the clouds its garment and thick darkness its swaddling bands?
10 Yo tracé un límite alrededor de él, le puse cerrojos y puertas,	10 When I set limits for it and fastened the bar of its door,
11 y le dije: «Llegarás hasta aquí y no pasarás; aquí se quebrará la soberbia de tus olas».	11 And said: Thus far shall you come but no farther, and here shall your proud waves be stilled!
12 ¿Has mandado una vez en tu vida a la mañana, le has indicado su puesto a la aurora,	12 Have you ever in your lifetime commanded the morning and shown the dawn its place
13 para que tome a la tierra por los bordes y sean sacudidos de ella los malvados?	13 For taking hold of the ends of the earth, till the wicked are shaken from its surface?
14 Ella adquiere forma como la arcilla bajo el sello y se tiñe lo mismo que un vestido:	14 The earth is changed as is clay by the seal, and dyed as though it were a garment;
15 entonces, a los malvados se los priva de su luz y se quiebra el brazo que se alzaba.	15 But from the wicked the light is withheld, and the arm of pride is shattered.
16 ¿Has penetrado hasta las fuentes del mar y has caminado por el fondo del océano?	16 Have you entered into the sources of the sea, or walked about in the depths of the abyss?
17 ¿Se te han abierto las Puertas de la Muerte y has visto las Puertas de la Sombra?	17 Have the gates of death been shown to you, or have you seen the gates of darkness?
18 ¿Abarcas con tu inteligencia la extensión de la tierra? Indícalo, si es que sabes todo esto.	18 Have you comprehended the breadth of the earth? Tell me, if you know all:
19 ¿Por dónde se va adonde habita la luz y dónde está la morada de las tinieblas,	19 Which is the way to the dwelling place of light, and where is the abode of darkness,
20 para que puedas guiarla hasta su dominio y mostrarle el camino de su casa?	20 That you may take them to their boundaries and set them on their homeward paths?
21 ¡Seguro que lo sabes, porque ya habías nacido y es muy grande el número de tus días!	21 You know, because you were born before them, and the number of your years is great!
22 ¿Has penetrado hasta los depósitos de la nieve y has visto las reservas del granizo,	22 Have you entered the storehouse of the snow, and seen the treasury of the hail
23 que yo guardo para los tiempos de angustia, para los días de guerra y de combate?	23 Which I have reserved for times of stress, for the days of war and of battle?
24 ¿Por qué camino se expande la luz y el viento del este se propaga sobre la tierra?	24 Which way to the parting of the winds, whence the east wind spreads over the earth?
25 ¿Quién ha abierto un cauce al aguacero y un camino al estampido de los truenos,	25 Who has laid out a channel for the downpour and for the thunderstorm a path
26 para hacer llover sobre una tierra despoblada, sobre un desierto donde ningún hombre habita,	26 To bring rain to no man's land, the unpeopled wilderness;
27 para regar los páramos desolados y hacer brotar una hierba en la estepa?	27 To enrich the waste and desolate ground till the desert blooms with verdure?
28 ¿Acaso la lluvia tiene un padre, y quién ha engendrado las gotas del rocío?	28 Has the rain a father; or who has begotten the drops of dew?
29 ¿Del vientre de quién sale el hielo y quién da a luz la escarcha del cielo,	29 Out of whose womb comes the ice, and who gives the hoarfrost its birth in the skies,
30 cuando las aguas se endurecen como piedra y se congela la superficie del océano?	30 When the waters lie covered as though with stone that holds captive the surface of the deep?
31 ¿Anudas tú los lazos de las Pléyades o desatas las cuerdas del Orión?	31 Have you fitted a curb to the Pleiades, or loosened the bonds of Orion?
32 ¿Haces salir las Híadas a su tiempo y guías a la Osa y sus cachorros?	32 Can you bring forth the Mazzaroth in their season, or guide the Bear with its train?
33 ¿Conoces las leyes de los cielos? ¿Regulas su dominio sobre la tierra?	33 Do you know the ordinances of the heavens; can you put into effect their plan on the earth?
34 ¿Puedes alzar tu voz hasta las nubes para que te cubra una masa de agua?	34 Can you raise your voice among the clouds, or veil yourself in the waters of the storm?
35 ¿Parten los relámpagos cuanto tú los envías y ellos te dicen: «Aquí estamos»?	35 Can you send forth the lightnings on their way, or will they say to you, "Here we are"?
36 ¿Quién puso en el ibis la sabiduría o quién dio al gallo la inteligencia?	36 Who puts wisdom in the heart, and gives the cock its understanding?
37 ¿Quién cuenta las nubes sabiamente y quién inclina los odres del cielo,	37 Who counts the clouds in his wisdom? Or who tilts the water jars of heaven
38 cuando el polvo se funde en una masa y los terrones se pegan entre sí?	38 So that the dust of earth is fused into a mass and its clods made solid?
39 ¿Cazas tú la presa para la leona y aplacas el hambre de sus cachorros,	39 Do you hunt the prey for the lioness or appease the hunger of her cubs,
40 cuando se agazapan en sus guaridas y están al acecho en la espesura?	40 While they crouch in their dens, or lie in wait in the thicket?
41 ¿Quién prepara las provisiones para el cuervo, cuando sus pichones claman a Dios y andan errantes por falta de alimento?	41 Who provides nourishment for the ravens when their young ones cry out to God, and they rove abroad without food?
