1 Paulo, servo di Dio e apostolo di Iesù Cristo secondo la fede degli eletti di Dio, in conoscimento di verità la qual è secondo la pietà	1 From Paul, servant of God, an apostle of Jesus Christ to bring those whom God has chosen to faith andto the knowledge of the truth that leads to true religion,
2 in speranza di vita eterna, la qual impromesse Dio, che non mente, dinanti li tempi de' secoli.	2 and to give them the hope of the eternal life that was promised so long ago by God. He does not lie
3 Dio manifestò la sua parola (cioè Cristo) nei suoi temporali per la sua predicazione, la qual è (conceduta e) raccomandata a me secondo il comandamento del Salvatore Dio nostro.	3 and so, in due time, he made known his message by a proclamation which was entrusted to me by thecommand of God our Saviour.
4 A te, Tito, figliuolo diletto secondo la comune fede, sia grazia e pace da Dio padre (nostro) e da Iesù Cristo nostro Salvatore.	4 To Titus, true child of mine in the faith that we share. Grace and peace from God the Father and fromChrist Jesus our Saviour.
5 Per questa cagione lasciai te nella provincia di Creta, che tu (riprendi e) correggi quelle cose che vengono meno, e che per le città ordini li preti, sì come io ordinai.	5 The reason I left you behind in Crete was for you to organise everything that stil had to be done andappoint elders in every town, in the way that I told you,
6 Se alcuno è senza grave peccato, ed è marito pur d'una mogliere, e ha figliuoli fedeli che non siano accusati di lussuria, e che non siano sudditi; (quello sia ordinato).	6 that is, each of them must be a man of irreproachable character, husband of one wife, and his childrenmust be believers and not liable to be charged with disorderly conduct or insubordination.
7 Conviensi al vescovo, sia (tale che non si possa riprendere e) senza grave peccato, secondo che dispensatore di Dio; che non sia superbo, non iroso, non ebrio, non feritore, nè cupido di sozzo guadagno.	7 The presiding elder has to be irreproachable since he is God's representative: never arrogant or hot-tempered, nor a heavy drinker or violent, nor avaricious;
8 Ma conviensi che sia albergatore, benigno, temperato, giusto e ricevitore de' santi,	8 but hospitable and a lover of goodness; sensible, upright, devout and self-control ed;
9 e amatore di colui che va secondo la buona dottrina (conviensi ancora che il vescovo ami abbracciando la parola della dottrina) della fede, acciò che sia potente di ammaestrare (e confortare la gente) nella dottrina sana (e pura), e di riprendere coloro che contradicono.	9 and he must have a firm grasp of the unchanging message of the tradition, so that he can be counted onboth for giving encouragement in sound doctrine and for refuting those who argue against it.
10 Imperò che ne son molti inobbedienti, li quali parlano vanamente; son seduttori (e ingannatori), e specialmente (fanno questo) quelli che son della circoncisione.	10 And in fact there are many people who are insubordinate, who talk nonsense and try to make othersbelieve it, particularly among those of the circumcision.
11 Li quali si convengono d' essere ripresi, perchè egli vanno rivolgendo tutta la gente (di questa fede), e ammaestrando quelle cose le quali non si convengono, per grazia di sozzo guadagno.	11 They must be silenced: people of this kind upset whole families, by teaching things that they ought notto, and doing it for the sake of sordid gain.
12 Disse uno di quelli, di loro proprio profeta: li Cretesi son sempre bugiardi, e male bestie, e pigri del ventre.	12 It was one of themselves, one of their own prophets, who said, 'Cretans were never anything but liars,dangerous animals, al greed and laziness';
13 Questo è vero testimonio. Per la qual cosa riprendi quelli tali duramente, che sieno puri nella fede,	13 and that is a true statement. So be severe in correcting them, and make them sound in the faith
14 e non intendano alle favole de' iudei, e alli comandamenti degli uomini che si partono della verità.	14 so that they stop taking notice of Jewish myths and the orders of people who turn away from the truth.
15 E tutte le cose son (nette e) monde a coloro che son mondi; ma a coloro che son inquinati e non fedeli, niuna cosa è monda; le menti di coloro. son corrotte, e la scienza è maculata.	15 To those who are pure themselves, everything is pure; but to those who have been corrupted and lackfaith, nothing can be pure -- the corruption is both in their minds and in their consciences.
16 E confessano (con parole) di conoscere Dio, e con li fatti niegano lui, essendo abbominevoli, e senza fede, e da ogni opera buona partiti.	16 They claim to know God but by their works they deny him; they are outrageously rebellious and quiteuntrustworthy for any good work.
