1 Ogni anima (e ogni persona) sia sottoposta (al Signore e) a' loro maggiori; chè (questo sappiate per il fermo, che) non è (signorìa nè) potestà, se non da Dio; e quelle che sono, da Dio son ordinate.	1 Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.
2 Adunque chi resiste alla potestà, resiste all'ordinazione di Dio; e questi che resistono (e contrastano) a sè medesimi guadagnano dannazione.	2 Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation.
3 Chè le signorie non son trovate per li buoni, ma per li rei (e per coloro che mal fanno). Non vuoi tu avere paura della signorìa? Fa bene, e sarai lodato da lei;	3 For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same:
4 Chè egli è (tuo) servitore [di Dio] in bene. Ma se tu fai male, abbi paura di lui; chè egli senza cagione non fa portare la spada; imperò ch' egli è servigiale di Dio in questo, e suo fattore di vendetta (ne' mali) a coloro che mal fanno.	4 For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil.
5 E imperò per il bisogno (in ciò) siate subietti alle signorie; e non solamente per paura, ma eziandio per la conscienza.	5 Wherefore ye must needs be subject, not only for wrath, but also for conscience sake.
6 E per questo pagate (l'imposte e) il tributo; chè egli son in questo servigiali di Dio.	6 For for this cause pay ye tribute also: for they are God's ministers, attending continually upon this very thing.
7 Adunque rendete a ogni persona gli debiti che voi dovete; a cui dovete rendere il tributo, sì lo rendete; a cui fitto, rendete fitto; a cui timore, timore; a cui onore, rendete onore.	7 Render therefore to all their dues: tribute to whom tribute is due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honour to whom honour.
8 E non abbiate a dare altrui alcuna cosa, se non che v' amiate insieme; e chi ama il prossimo suo, quegli adempie la legge.	8 Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law.
9 Chè il comandamento di non adulterare, e di non uccidere, e di non furare, e di non rendere falsa testimonianza, e non desiderare le cose d'altrui, e ogni altro comandamento che vi sia, in questa parola si ristaura: ama il prossimo tuo, come che te medesimo.	9 For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; and if there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
10 La dilezione del prossimo non adopera male; adunque il compimento della legge sì è la dilezione	10 Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.
11 E sappiate che ora è tempo, che noi ci dobbiamo levare da dormire; chè ora è più appresso la nostra salute, che noi non credevamo.	11 And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed.
12 La notte è passata, e il dì è venuto; adunque cacciamo via l'opere delle tenebre, e vestiamci dell' arme della luce.	12 The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light.
13 E andiamo onestamente, sì come di dì; non andiamo per troppo mangiare, nè per troppo bere, nè per troppo dormire, nè per lussuriare; non in contenzione, nè con odio.	13 Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying.
14 Ma vestitevi il nostro Signore Iesù Cristo, e non compiete li desiderii della carne.	14 But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.
