1 Essendo Iesù nasciuto in Betleem di Iuda, nel tempo del re Erode, ecco li Magi vennero dall'oriente in Ierusalem,	1 And so, when Jesus had been born in Bethlehem of Judah, in the days of king Herod, behold, Magi from the east arrived in Jerusalem,
2 (e domandavano) dicendo: dove è colui che è nato re de' Giudei? imperò che noi abbiamo veduta la stella in oriente, e vegniamo per adorarlo.	2 saying: “Where is he who was born king of the Jews? For we have seen his star in the east, and we have come to adore him.”
3 Allora udendo il re Erode, turbossi (molto), e tutta Ierusalem con lui.	3 Now king Herod, hearing this, was disturbed, and all Jerusalem with him.
4 E radunando tutti li principi de' sacerdoti, e li savii del popolo, domandavali dove Cristo doveva nascere.	4 And gathering together all the leaders of the priests, and the scribes of the people, he consulted with them as to where the Christ would be born.
5 Ed egli risposeno: in Betleem di Iuda; imperò ch' elli è scritto per il profeta:	5 And they said to him: “In Bethlehem of Judea. For so it has been written by the prophet:
6 E tu, Betleem, terra di Iuda, non sei minima. infra gli principi di Iudea; imperò che di te uscirà il duca, il qual reggerà il popolo mio d' Israel.	6 ‘And you, Bethlehem, the land of Judah, are by no means least among the leaders of Judah. For from you shall go forth the ruler who shall guide my people Israel.’ ”
7 Allora il re Erode, chiamati secretamente li Magi, intese da loro il tempo della stella che a loro. era apparita.	7 Then Herod, quietly calling the Magi, diligently learned from them the time when the star appeared to them.
8 E dissegli: andate in Betleem, e domandate diligentemente del fanciullo; e quando avrete trovato, tornate a me a nunciarlo, sì ch' io anche vada adorarlo.	8 And sending them into Bethlehem, he said: “Go and diligently ask questions about the boy. And when you have found him, report back to me, so that I, too, may come and adore him.”
9 Li quali, dopo ch' ebbeno udito il re, si partirono; ed ecco la stella, la qual egli avevano veduta in oriente, gli andava loro innanzi, venendo insino sopra dove era il fanciullo.	9 And when they had heard the king, they went away. And behold, the star that they had seen in the east went before them, even until, arriving, it stood still above the place where the child was.
10 E vedendo li Magi la stella, ebbeno grandissima allegrezza.	10 Then, seeing the star, they were gladdened by a very great joy.
11 Ed entrando in casa, trovorono il fanciullo con Maria sua madre, e inginocchiandosi adorarono quello; e aperti li loro tesauri, gli offerseno auro, incenso e mirra.	11 And entering the home, they found the boy with his mother Mary. And so, falling prostrate, they adored him. And opening their treasures, they offered him gifts: gold, frankincense, and myrrh.
12 E dopo in sogno ebbeno risposta, che non tornassero da Erode; e per altra via ritornorono nella loro regione.	12 And having received a response in sleep that they should not return to Herod, they went back by another way to their own region.
13 Li quali essendo partiti, ecco l'angelo del Signore apparve in sogno a Iosef, dicendoli: leva su, e piglia il fanciullo e la madre sua, e fuggi in Egitto, e ivi dimora per insino a tanto che tel dirò. Egli è da venire che Erode cerchi il fanciullo per ucciderlo.	13 And after they had gone away, behold, an Angel of the Lord appeared in sleep to Joseph, saying: “Rise up, and take the boy and his mother, and flee into Egypt. And remain there until I tell you. For it will happen that Herod will seek the boy to destroy him.”
14 Egli, levandosi, pigliò il fanciullo e la sua madre di notte, e fuggissene in Egitto.	14 And getting up, he took the boy and his mother by night, and withdrew into Egypt.
15 E li dimorò per insino alla morte di Erode, acciò fosse adempiuto quel che dal Signore per il profeta è stato detto: da Egitto ho chiamato il figliuolo mio.	15 And he remained there, until the death of Herod, in order to fulfill what was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying: “Out of Egypt, I called my son.”
16 Allora Erode, vedendosi dalli Magi esser beffeggiato, si adirò grandemente; e comandando uccise. tutti li fauciulli ch' erano in Betleem e nelle sue confine, e da due anni in giù, secondo il tempo che aveva domandato dalli Magi.	16 Then Herod, seeing that he had been fooled by the Magi, was very angry. And so he sent to kill all the boys who were in Bethlehem, and in all its borders, from two years of age and under, according to the time that he had learned by questioning the Magi.
17 Allora fu adempiuto quello che fu detto per Ieremia profeta, dicendo:	17 Then what was spoken through the prophet Jeremiah was fulfilled, saying:
18 La voce di molto pianto, e di molto lamento e dolore, è udita nella contrada di Rama; e Rachel piange li suoi figliuoli, e non si ha vogliuta consolare, perchè non gli sono.	18 “A voice has been heard in Ramah, great weeping and wailing: Rachel crying for her sons. And she was not willing to be consoled, because they were no more.”
19 Adunque, morto Erode, ecco l'angelo del Signore in Egitto apparve in sogno a Iosef.	19 Then, when Herod had passed away, behold, an Angel of the Lord appeared in sleep to Joseph in Egypt,
20 E sì gli disse: lèvati, piglia il fanciullo con la sua madre, e vattene in la terra d' Israel; imperò che son morti coloro che andavano cercando l' anima del fanciullo.	20 saying: “Rise up, and take the boy and his mother, and go into the land of Israel. For those who were seeking the life of the boy have passed away.”
21 Allora Iosef si levò, e prese il fanciullo e la madre sua, e venne in terra d' Israel.	21 And rising up, he took the boy and his mother, and he went into the land of Israel.
22 Ma udendo che Archelao reggeva in Iudea. in luogo del padre suo Erode, temette di andare quivi; e ammaestrato in sogno (dall' angelo) andò nelle parti di Galilea,	22 Then, hearing that Archelaus reigned in Judea in place of his father Herod, he was afraid to go there. And being warned in sleep, he withdrew into parts of Galilee.
23 nella città di Nazaret, acciò che s' adempiesse quel ch' era stato detto per il profeta: egli si chiamerà Nazareo.	23 And arriving, he lived in a city which is called Nazareth, in order to fulfill what was spoken through the prophets: “For he shall be called a Nazarene.”
