Baruch 4

BIBBIA VOLGARE	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Questo è lo libro de' comandamenti di Dio, e la legge la quale si è in eterno; tutti quelli che la osserveranno, sì perverranno a vita; ma quelli che non la osserveranno, perverranno alla morte.	1 She is the book of God's commandments, the Law that stands for ever; those who keep her shal live,those who desert her shal die.
2 O Iacob, convèrtiti; e piglia, e va per la via collo suo splendore incontro al suo lume.	2 Turn back, Jacob, seize her, in her radiance make your way to light:
3 Non dare altrui la tua gloria, e non dare la dignità tua alla gente strana.	3 do not yield your glory to another, your privilege to a people not your own.
4 O Israel, noi siamo beati; però che le cose che piacciono a Dio, sono manifeste a noi.	4 Israel, blessed are we: what pleases God has been revealed to us!
5 Sarai riposo all' anima, popolo di Dio, memorabile Israel.	5 Take courage, my people, memorial of Israel!
6 Voi siete venduti alle genti; non che siate perduti, ma però che voi provocaste in ira ad iracundia lo Signore Iddio, siete dati alli avversarii.	6 You were sold to the nations, but not for extermination. You provoked God; and so were delivered toyour enemies,
7 Voi avete esacerbato colui il quale fece voi, cioè Iddio eterno, sacrificando a' demoni, e non a Dio.	7 since you had angered your Creator by offering sacrifices to demons, and not to God.
8 Voi vi avete dimenticato colui che vi nutricò, e contristaste la vostra nutrice Ierusalem.	8 You had forgotten the eternal God who reared you. You had also grieved Jerusalem who nursed you,
9 E vide la iracondia che viene a voi da Dio, e disse: udite, confini di Sion, però che Iddio m'ha mandato grande pianto.	9 for when she saw God's anger fal ing on you, she said: Listen, you neighbours of Zion: God has sent megreat sorrow.
10 Io vidi la cattività del populo mio, e delli figliuoli miei e delle figliuole mie, la quale sopraddusse a loro Iddio eterno.	10 I have seen my sons and daughters taken into captivity, which the Eternal brought down on them.
11 Io nutrie coloro con gioconditae; e lasciai loro con pianto.	11 I had reared them joyful y; in tears, in sorrow, I watched them go away.
12 Neuno uomo si rallegri sopra me vedova e desolata; (qui doviamo sapere che neuno si deve rallegrare dello male altrui); io sono abbandonata da molti per li peccati delli figliuoli miei, però che declinarono dalla legge di Dio.	12 Do not, any of you, exult over me, a widow, deserted by so many; I am bereaved because of the sinsof my children, who turned away from the Law of God,
13 E non seppono le sue giustizie, e non andarono per le [vie de'] comandamenti di Dio; nè per li sentieri della sua verità sono entrati con giusti zia (buona).	13 who did not want to know his precepts and would not fol ow the ways of his commandments or treadthe paths of discipline as his justice directed.
14 Vegnano li confini di Sion; facciano memoria della cattività delli figliuoli e figliuole mie, la quale lo Signore eterno mandò sopra loro.	14 Come here, neighbours of Zion! Remember my sons' and daughters' captivity, which the Eternalbrought down on them.
15 Però che mandò sopra loro gente da lunga, e gente malvagia e d' altra lingua.	15 How he brought a distant nation down on them, a ruthless nation speaking a foreign language, theyshowed neither respect for the aged, nor pity for the child;
16 I quali non ebbono reverenza a' vecchi, e non ebbono misericordia de' fanciulli; ei menarono li figliuoli della vedova, e da' figliuoli ne desolarono una.	16 they carried off the widow's cherished sons, they left her quite alone, bereft of her daughters.
17 Ma io come posso aiutarvi?	17 For my part, how could I help you?
18 Però che quello il quale addusse lo male sopra voi, egli vi libererà delle mani de' vostri nimici.	18 He who brought those disasters down on you, is the one to deliver you from your enemies' clutches.
19 O figliuoli, andate; andate, però ch' io sono lasciata sola.	19 Go, my children, go your way! I must stay bereft and lonely;
20 Io mi spogliai la stola della pace, e vesti'mi lo sacco della obsecrazione; e griderò allo Altissimo nelli miei dì.	20 I have taken off the clothes of peace and put on the sackcloth of entreaty; al my life I shal cry to theEternal.
21 Siate più uguali dell' anima, figliuoli; gridate al Signore, e liberaravvi delle mani de' principi iniqui.	21 Take courage, my children, cal on God: he wil deliver you from tyranny, from the clutches of yourenemies;
22 Però ch' io sperai in eterno la vostra salute; e vennemi allegrezza dal Santo sopra la misericordia, la quale verrà a voi dallo eternale Salvatore nostro.	22 for I look to the Eternal for your rescue, and joy has come to me from the Holy One at the mercy soonto reach you from your Saviour, the Eternal.
23 Egli vi mandò fuori con pianto; ma Iddio vi riducerà a me con allegrezza e con giocondita le in eterno.	23 In sorrow and tears I watched you go away, but God wil give you back to me in joy and gladness forever.
24 Però che si come vidono li vicini di Sion la vostra cattività da Dio, così vederanno, e tostamente, la vostra salute da Dio, la quale sopraverrà a voi con grande onore e con splendore eterno.	24 As the neighbours of Zion have now witnessed your captivity, so wil they soon see your rescue byGod, which wil come upon you with great glory and splendour of the Eternal.
25 O figliuoli, sostenete l'ira pazientemente, la quale sopravenne a voi; però che lo tuo nimico. t' hae perseguitato, ma tosto vederete la sua perdizione; e salirete sopra lo suo collo.	25 My children, patiently bear the anger brought on you by God. Your enemy has persecuted you, butsoon you wil witness his destruction and set your foot on his neck.
26 Li miei delicati andarono per le vie aspre, e sono menati come la greggia rubata dalli nimici.	26 My favourite children have travel ed by rough roads, carried off like a flock by a marauding enemy.
27 E siate riposati dell' anima, figliuoli, e gridate a Dio; però che la vostra memoria sarà di colui lo quale menò voi.	27 Take courage, my children, cal on God: he who brought this on you wil remember you.
28 Però che come fue lo senno vostro, che voi erraste da Dio dieci volte, pure ancora un'altra volta convertendovi richiederete lui.	28 As by your wil you first strayed from God, so now turn back and search for him ten times harder;
29 Però che quello che vi mandò lo male, egli ancora vi manderà sempiterna giocondità colla vostra salute.	29 for as he has been bringing down those disasters on you, so wil he rescue you and give you eternaljoy.
30 O Ierusalem, sia riposata dell' anima; quello ti conforta, il quale ti nominò.	30 Take courage, Jerusalem: he who gave you your name wil console you.
31 Li nocenti periranno, quelli i quali ti tormentarono; e quelli che si rallegrarono della tua ruina, saranno puniti.	31 Disaster wil come to al who have il -treated you and gloated over your fal .
32 Le cittadi, alle quali servirono li tuoi figliuoli, saranno punite, e quella che tolse li tuoi figliuoli.	32 Disaster wil come to the cities where your children were slaves; disaster to whichever one receivedyour children,
33 Così come si rallegrò nella tua ruina, e fue lieta nel tuo caso, (ciò fu Babilonia), così si contristerà nella sua desolazione.	33 for just as she rejoiced at your fal and was happy to see you ruined, so wil she grieve over her owndesolation.
34 E sarà tagliata la esultazione della sua moltitudine; la sua allegrezza verrà in pianto.	34 I shall deprive her of the joy of a populous city, and her insolence wil turn to mourning;
35 Però che lo fuoco sopraverrà a lei dallo eterno nella lunghezza dei dì, e (finalmente) per lunghi tempi sarà abitata dai demoni (per tempo).	35 fire from the Eternal wil befall her for many a day, and demons wil dwel in her for ages.
36 O Ierusalem, ragguarda ad oriente, e vedi la gioconditade che ti viene da Dio.	36 Jerusalem, turn your eyes to the east, see the joy that is coming to you from God.
37 Però che ecco, che li tuoi figliuoli, li quali tu lasciasti dispersi, vengono raccolti da oriente infino ad occidente, nella parola del Santo rallegrandosi ad onore di Dio.	37 Look, the children you watched go away are on their way home; reassembled from east and west, theyare on their way home at the Holy One's command, rejoicing in God's glory.
