1 E addivenne nel mese settimo, che venne Ismael, figliuolo di Natania, figliuolo di Elisama del seme regale, e li ufficiali dello re, e dieci uomini con lui (vennero) a Godolia figliuolo di Aicam in Masfat: e mangiorono del pane insieme in Mastat.	1 In the seventh month, however, Ishmael son of Nethaniah son of Elishama, who was of royal descent,came with officers of the king and ten men to Gedaliah son of Ahikam at Mizpah. And as they were taking theirmeal together, there at Mizpah,
2 E levaronsi suso Ismael, e X uomini ch' erano con lui, e percossono Godolia, figliuolo di Aicam, figliuolo di Safan, di coltello, e uccisono lui lo quale lo re di Babilonia l'aveva fatto preposto della terra.	2 Ishmael son of Nethaniah stood up with his ten men, and attacking Gedaliah son of Ahikam, son ofShaphan, with their swords, they kil ed the man whom the king of Babylon had made governor of the country.
3 E tutti i giudei, ch' erano con Godolia in Masfat, e li Caldei che vi furono trovati, e li uomini d'arme percosse Ismael.	3 And al the Judaeans who were with him, that is with Gedaliah at Mizpah, and the Chaldaean soldierswho happened to be there, Ishmael killed too.
4 E lo secondo dì, poi ch' ebbe morto Godolia, non sapiendolo persona,	4 On the day after the murder of Gedaliah, before the news had become known,
5 vennero li uomini di Sichem e di Silo e di Samaria, forse LXXX, rasi la barba, e colle vestimenta isquarciate, e graffiandosi; e aveano in mano doni e incenso per offerire nella casa di Dio.	5 eighty men arrived from Shechem, Shiloh and Samaria, with their beards shaved off, their clothing torn,and covered in self-inflicted gashes; they were bringing cereal offerings and incense with them to present to theTemple of Yahweh.
6 E uscito fuori Ismael, figliuolo di Natania, di Masfat, andava loro incontro piagnendo; e quando s' abbattè a loro, disse loro: venite a Godolia figliuolo di Aicam.	6 Ishmael son of Nethaniah went out of Mizpah to meet them, weeping as he went. When he met themhe said, 'Come to Gedaliah son of Ahikam.'
7 E quando furono venuti insino al mezzo della città, Ismael figliuolo di Natania li uccise intorno al mezzo del lago, egli e gli uomini ch' erano con lui.	7 But once they were wel inside the town, Ishmael son of Nethaniah slaughtered them, with the help ofhis men, and had them thrown into the storage-wel .
8 E X uomini furono trovati tra loro, i quali dissono ad Ismael: non uccidere noi, perchè noi avemo tesoro nel campo, del grano e dell' orzo e dell' olio e del miele. E cessossi Ismael, e non li ucIcise co' loro fratelli.	8 There were ten of them, however, who said to Ishmael, 'Do not kil us: we have stocks of wheat andbarley, oil and honey, hidden away in the fields.' So he spared them and did not kil them with their brothers.
9 E lo lago, nel quale gittò Ismael tutti li corpi morti li quali percosse per Godolia, quello è lo lago lo quale fece lo re Asa per [Baasa], lo re d' Israel; e Ismael lo riempiè d' uomini morti.	9 The storage-wel into which Ishmael threw the corpses of all the men he had kil ed was a large one, theone which King Asa had built as a precaution against Baasha king of Israel. Ishmael son of Nethaniah filled itwith the slaughtered men.
10 E inenò Ismael in prigione tutto lo rimanente del populo, ch' era in Masfat (rimaso), le figliuole dello re, e tutto l'universo populo ch' era rimaso in Masfat, il quale populo avea comandamento da Nabuzardan, principe della milizia, a Godolia figliuolo di Aicam. E Ismael figliuolo di Natania li pigliò, e andò per passare a' figliuoli d' Ammon.	10 Ishmael then took al the rest of the people prisoner who were at Mizpah, the king's daughters and althe remaining people in Mizpah, whom Nebuzaradan, commander of the guard, had entrusted to Gedaliah sonof Ahikam. Ishmael son of Nethaniah took them prisoner and set out, intending to cross over to the Ammonites.
11 E udio Ioanan, figliuolo di Caree, e tutti li principi de' combattitori, i quali erano con lui, ogni male che avea fatto Ismael figliuolo di Natania.	11 When Johanan son of Kareah and al the military leaders who were with him heard about al thecrimes committed by Ishmael son of Nethaniah,
12 E tolti li universi uomini seco, andarono per combattere contro a Ismael figliuolo di Natania, e trovorolo alle molte acque che sono in (una contrada che si chiama) Gabaon.	12 they mustered all their men and set out to attack Ishmael son of Nethaniah. They caught up with himat the great Pool of Gibeon.
13 E quando vidde tutto il popolo, ch' era con Ismael, Ioanan figliuolo di Caree, e tutti li principi de combattitori ch' erano con lui, rallegràrsene molto.	13 At the sight of Johanan son of Kareah and al the military leaders with him, al the people with Ishmaelwere delighted.
14 E rivolsesi tutto il popolo, che avea preso Ismael, in Masfat; e rivoltato, se n' andò a Ioanan figliuolo di Caree.	14 Al the people whom Ishmael had taken as prisoners from Mizpah turned about, went back and joinedJohanan son of Kareah.
15 Ma Ismael figliuolo di Natania fuggìo con otto uomini dalla faccia di Ioanan, e andossene ai figliuoli d' Ammon.	15 Ishmael son of Nethaniah, however, escaped from Johanan with eight of his men and fled to theAmmonites.
16 E Ioanan figliuolo di Natauia, e tutti li prìncipi ch' erano con lui [degli uomini] d'arme, portò tutto lo rimanente del populo, lo quale avea redutto da Ismael, figliuolo di Natania, di Masfat, poi ch' elli percosse Godolia figliuolo di Aicam, tutti uomini forti a battaglia, e femine e putti e castrati, i quali rimenò di Gabaon.	16 Johanan son of Kareah and al the military leaders with him then ral ied al the remaining peoplewhom Ishmael son of Nethaniah had taken as prisoners from Mizpah after kil ing Gedaliah son of Ahikam: men --fighting men-women, children and eunuchs, whom they brought back from Gibeon.
17 E andarono e sederono peregrinando in Camaam (cioè in quella contrada), la quale è a lato a Betleem, ed entrarono in Egitto	17 Setting off, they made a halt at Khan Kimham near Bethlehem, intending to go on to Egypt,
18 dalla faccia de' Caldei; per che gli temeano molto, per ciò che avea percosso Ismael, figliuolo di [Natania, Godolia figliolo di] Aicam, lo quale avea fatto preposto lo re di Babilonia nella terra di Giuda.	18 to get away from the Chaldaeans. They were now terrified of them, since Ishmael son of Nethaniahhad kil ed Gedaliah son of Ahikam whom the king of Babylon had made governor of the country.
