Judit 16

1 Allora cantò Iudit questo cantico al Signore, dicendo:	1 "Strike up the instruments, a song to my God with timbrels, chant to the Lord with cymbals; Sing to him a new song, exalt and acclaim his name.
2 Cominciate al Signore nelli timpani, cantate al Signore nelli cimbali, cantate a lui lo salmo nuovo dolcemente, fate letizia e invocate il nome suo.	2 For the Lord is God; he crushes warfare, and sets his encampment among his people; he snatched me from the hands of my presecutors.
3 Lo Signore è quello che spezza le battaglie; lo nome suo è Signore.	3 "The Assyrian came from the mountains of the north, with the myriads of his forces he came; Their numbers blocked the torrents, their horses covered the hills.
4 Lo quale pose la sua gente d'arme nel mezzo del suo popolo, acciò che ci liberasse delle mani di tutti i nostri inimici.	4 He threatened to burn my land, put my youths to the sword, Dash my babes to the ground, make my children a prey, and seize my virgins as spoil.

6 Disse ch' egli arderebbe li termini miei, e li miei giovani ucciderebbe con coltello; darebbe li miei fanciulli in preda, e le vergini in prigione.	6 Not by youths was their mighty one struck down, nor did titans bring him low, nor huge giants attack him; But Judith, the daughter of Merari, by the beauty of her countenance disabled him.

11 Li belli [suoi] calzamenti pigliorono gli occhi suoi; la sua bellezza prese e incarcerò l'an?ma sua; con lo suo proprio pugnale li mozzò il capo.	11 When my lowly ones shouted, they were terrified; when my weaklings cried out, they trembled; at the sound of their war cry, they took to flight.
12 Stupefatti quelli di Persia temerono molto la costanza sua, e quelli di Media la sua audacia.	12 Sons of slave girls pierced them through; the supposed sons of rebel mothers cut them down; they perished before the ranks of my Lord.
13 Allora gridarono ad alta voce tutti gli eserciti degli Assirii, quando apparirono li miei piccolini che si morivano di sete.	13 "A new hymn I will sing to my God. O Lord, great are you and glorious, wonderful in power and unsurpassable.
14 I figliuoli delle mie fanciulle sì li ferirono, e ucciserli fuggendo, come fanciulli; perirono nella battaglia dalla faccia del mio Signore.	14 Let your every creature serve you; for you spoke, and they were made, You sent forth your spirit, and they were created; no one can resist your word.
15 Cantiamo lo inno al Signore; cantiamo al nostro Iddio uno inno nuovo.	15 The mountains to their bases, and the seas, are shaken; the rocks, like wax, melt before your glance. "But to those who fear you, you are very merciful.
16 Signore, tu sei grande signoreggiatore, e preclaro nella tua virtù; lo qual niuno lo puote superare.	16 Though the sweet odor of every sacrifice is a trifle, and the fat of all holocausts but little in your sight, one who fears the Lord is forever great.
17 A te serva ogni creatura tua; però che tu dicesti, e sono fatte le cose; mandasti lo tuo spirito, e sono create; e non è chi faccia resistenza al tuo comandamento.	17 "Woe to the nations that rise against my people! the Lord Almighty will requite them; in the day of judgment he will punish them: He will send fire and worms into their flesh, and they shall burn and suffer forever."
18 Li monti si moveranno dalli fondamenti con l'acque; le pietre si faranno molli come la cera dinanzi dalla faccia tua.	18 The people then went to Jerusalem to worship God; when they were purified, they offered their holocausts, freewill offerings, and gifts.
19 Quelli ti temono, saranno grandi appo te in tutte le cose.	19 Judith dedicated, as a votive offering to God, all the things of Holofernes that the people had given her, as well as the canopy that she herself had taken from his bedroom.
20 Guai alle genti che si leveranno contro alla mia generazione; però che lo Signore onnipotente si vendicherà in loro; nel dì del giudizio visiterà loro.	20 For three months the people continued their celebration in Jerusalem before the sanctuary, and Judith remained with them.
21 Però ch' egli darà lo fuoco e li vermi nelle carni loro, acciò che s' abbrucino, e sentino persino in sempiterno.	21 When those days were over, each one returned to his inheritance. Judith went back to Bethulia and remained on her estate. For the rest of her life she was renowned throughout the land.
22 E fatto è dopo questo; tutto il popolo dopo la vittoria venne in Ierusalem per adorare il Signore; e subito che furono mondati, offersero gli olocausti e li voti e le sue proferte.	22 Many wished to marry her, but she gave herself to no man all the days of her life from the time of the death and burial of her husband, Manasseh.
23 E Iudit tutte l'arme belliche di Oloferne, le quali diede a lei il popolo, e il padiglione sottilissimo che lei tolse, diede in esclusione di dimenticanza.	23 She lived to be very old in the house of her husband, reaching the advanced age of a hundred and five. She died in Bethulia, where they buried her in the tomb of her husband, Manasseh;
24 E lo popolo era lieto secondo la faccia dei santi; e per tre mesi la letizia di questa vittoria fu celebrata con Iudit.	24 and the house of Israel mourned her for seven days. Before she died, she distributed her goods to the relatives of her husband, Manasseh, and to her own relatives; and to the maid she gave her freedom.
25 E dopo quelli ognuno tornò al luogo suo proprio; e Iudit fu fatta (molto) grande in Betulia, ed era più famosa di tutta la terra d'Israel.	25 During the life of Judith and for a long time after her death, no one again disturbed the Israelites.
26 Ed era congiunta con la virtù della castità, sì che non conobbe uomo tutto il tempo della vita sua, dopo la morte di Manasse suo marito..
27 E andava nelli di delle feste con grande gloria.
28 E abitò nella casa del suo marito cento e cinque anni; e lasciò Abra serva sua libera; e morì e fu sepolta in Betulia.
29 E tutto il popolo la pianse sette dì.
30 In tutto il tempo della vita sua non fu chi perturbasse Israel, e dopo la sua morte molti anni.
31 E lo di della festività di questa vittoria sì è computato dagli Ebrei nel numero de' dì santi, ed è venerato dalli Giudei da quello tempo persino al presente di d' oggi.
