BIBBIA VOLGARE	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Partissi adunque Abram d'Egitto, egli e la moglie sua ed ogni cosa che egli avea, e Lot alla parte australe con lui.	1 From Egypt Abram returned to the Negeb with his wife and al he possessed, and Lot with him.
2 Era in verità molto ricco in possessione d'argento e d'oro.	2 Abram was very rich in livestock, silver and gold.
3 E tornato si è per quello luogo per lo quale era venuto, dal meridie intra Betel per fine al luogo del tabernacolo,	3 By stages he went from the Negeb to Bethel, where he had first pitched his tent, between Bethel andAi,
4 ch' egli avea fatto prima; e chiamoe quivi lo nome del Signore.	4 at the place where he had formerly erected the altar. There Abram invoked the name of Yahweh.
5 Ma Lot, il quale era con Abram, avea greggie di pecore ed armenta e tabernacoli.	5 Lot, who was travelling with Abram, had flocks and cattle of his own, and tents too.
6 E non potea tenere loro la terra, ch' eglino abitassero insieme; ed era in verità la sostanza loro molta, e non poteano abitare insieme.	6 The land was not sufficient to accommodate them both at once, for they had too many possessions tobe able to live together.
7 Onde fatta è zuffa tra i pastori delle greggie di Abram e di Lot. In quello medesimo tempo lo Cananeo e Ferezeo abitavano in quella terra.	7 Dispute broke out between the herdsmen of Abram's livestock and those of Lot. (The Canaanites andPerizzites were living in the country at the time.)
8 Disse adunque Abram a Lot: io t'addomando che non sia lite tra te e me, ed intra' pastori miei ed intra' i pastori tuoi; chè fratelli noi siamo.	8 Accordingly Abram said to Lot, 'We do not want discord between us or between my herdsmen andyours, for we are kinsmen.
9 Ecco tutta la terra innanzi a te; ed io ti prego che tu ti parti da me: se tu andarae dalla mano manca, ed io dalla dritta terrò; se tu isceglierai dalla dritta, ed io terrò dalla manca.	9 Is not the whole land open before you? Go in the opposite direction to me: if you take the left, I shalgo right; if you take the right, I shal go left.'
10 E levati dunque Lot gli occhii, vidde ogni regione intorno al Giordano, il quale le bagnava, inanzi che sovertisse il Signore Sodoma e Gomorra, sì come paradiso del Signore, e si come l'Egitto a quelli vegnenti in Segor.	10 Looking round, Lot saw all the Jordan plain, irrigated everywhere -- this was before Yahwehdestroyed Sodom and Gomorrah-like the garden of Yahweh or the land of Egypt, as far as Zoar.
11 Ed elesse a sè Lot la regione intorno al Giordano, e partissi dall'oriente; e divisero ciascuno dal suo fratello.	11 So Lot chose all the Jordan plain for himself and moved off eastwards. Thus they parted company:
12 Abram abitoe nella terra di Canaan; Lot stette nelle terre le quali erano intorno al Giordano, ed abitoe poi in Sodoma.	12 Abram settled in the land of Canaan; Lot settled among the cities of the plain, pitching his tents onthe outskirts of Sodom.
13 In verità gli uomini di Sodoma erano pessimi; ed erano peccatori dinanzi al Signore troppo.	13 Now the people of Sodom were vicious and great sinners against Yahweh.
14 E disse il Signore ad Abram, poscia che si partì Lot da lui: lieva gli occhii tuoi, e poni mente, dal luogo dove ora sei, all'aquilone e al meridie, e all'oriente e all'occidente.	14 Yahweh said to Abram after Lot had parted company from him, 'Look al round from where you are,to north and south, to east and west,
15 Ogni terra, la quale puoi tu vedere, a te darò e al seme tuo per sempre.	15 for al the land within sight I shal give to you and your descendants for ever.
16 E farò lo seme tuo sì come la polvere della terra; se alcuno potesse annumerare la polvere, il seme tuo potrà annumerare.	16 I shal make your descendants like the dust on the ground; when people succeed in counting thespecks of dust on the ground, then they wil be able to count your descendants too!
17 Leva su, e va sopra la terra in lunghezza ed in larghezza sua; imperciò ch' io ti darò quella.	17 On your feet! Travel the length and breadth of the country, for I mean to give it to you.'
18 Movente si adunque Abram lo tabernacolo suo, venne ed abitò appo convalle Mambre, la quale è in Ebron; ed edificò qui l'altare al Signore.	18 So Abram moved his tent and went to settle at the Oak of Mamre, at Hebron, and there he built analtar to Yahweh.
