| 4 I figli di Giuseppe, infatti, formavano due tribù: Manasse ed Efraim, e ai leviti non era stato dato alcun possesso nel paese, ma soltanto alcune città per abitarvi e le pasture adiacenti ad esse per i loro greggi e i loro beni. | 4 For the people of Joseph were two tribes, Manasseh and Ephraim; and no portion was given to the Levites in the land, but only cities to dwell in, with their pasture lands for their cattle and their substance. |

| 6 Frattanto i figli di Giuda vennero da Giosuè a Gàlgala e Caleb, figlio di Iefunne, il kenizzita, gli disse: "Tu sai bene quello che il Signore disse a Mosè, uomo di Dio, a mio e tuo riguardo, a Kades-Barnea. | 6 Then the people of Judah came to Joshua at Gilgal; and Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite said to him, "You know what the LORD said to Moses the man of God in Kadesh-barnea concerning you and me. |
| 7 Io avevo quarant'anni quando Mosè, servo del Signore, mi mandò da Kades-Barnea ad esplorare il paese ed io lo informai di tutto come avevo nel cuore. | 7 I was forty years old when Moses the servant of the LORD sent me from Kadesh-barnea to spy out the land; and I brought him word again as it was in my heart. |
| 8 E mentre i miei fratelli, che erano venuti con me, scoraggiavano il popolo, io seguivo fedelmente il Signore, mio Dio. | 8 But my brethren who went up with me made the heart of the people melt; yet I wholly followed the LORD my God. |
| 9 Perciò in quel giorno Mosè giurò: "La terra dove hai posato i tuoi piedi sarà data in eredità a te e ai tuoi figli per sempre, perché hai seguito fedelmente il Signore, mio Dio". | 9 And Moses swore on that day, saying, 'Surely the land on which your foot has trodden shall be an inheritance for you and your children for ever, because you have wholly followed the LORD my God.' |
| 10 Ed ora, ecco che il Signore, come aveva promesso, mi ha conservato in vita questi quarantacinque anni, da quando egli disse questa cosa a Mosè, allorché Israele vagava nel deserto; ed ora, ecco, io oggi ho ottantacinque anni. | 10 And now, behold, the LORD has kept me alive, as he said, these forty-five years since the time that the LORD spoke this word to Moses, while Israel walked in the wilderness; and now, lo, I am this day eighty-five years old. |

Se il Signore sarà con me, io li spodesterò, come ha detto il Signore". | 12 So now give me this hill country of which the LORD spoke on that day; for you heard on that day how the Anakim were there, with great fortified cities: it may be that the LORD will be with me, and I shall drive them out as the LORD said." |
| 13 Giosuè lo benedisse e diede Ebron in eredità a Caleb, figlio di Iefunne. | 13 Then Joshua blessed him; and he gave Hebron to Caleb the son of Jephunneh for an inheritance. |
| 14 Perciò Ebron è rimasta possesso di Caleb, figlio di Iefunne, il kenizzita, fino ad oggi, perché egli aveva seguito fedelmente il Signore, Dio d'Israele. | 14 So Hebron became the inheritance of Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite to this day, because he wholly followed the LORD, the God of Israel. |
| 15 Prima Ebron si chiamava Kiriat-Arba, essendo stato questi l'uomo più famoso tra gli Anakiti. Poi il paese si riposò dalla guerra. | 15 Now the name of Hebron formerly was Kiriath-arba; this Arba was the greatest man among the Anakim. And the land had rest from war. |
