| 1 Quando Gesù terminò questi discorsi, partì dalla Galilea e si incamminò verso il territorio della Giudea al di là del Giordano; | 1 Now when Jesus had finished these sayings, he went away from Galilee and entered the region of Judea beyond the Jordan; |
| 2 lo seguirono folle numerose e lì operò guarigioni. | 2 and large crowds followed him, and he healed them there. |
| 3 Si avvicinarono a lui alcuni farisei per metterlo alla prova e gli domandarono: "E' lecito ripudiare la propria moglie per qualsiasi motivo?". | 3 And Pharisees came up to him and tested him by asking, "Is it lawful to divorce one's wife for any cause?" |
| 4 Egli rispose: "Non avete letto che il Creatore fin da principio maschio e femmina li fece, | 4 He answered, "Have you not read that he who made them from the beginning made them male and female, |
| 5 e disse: "Per questo l'uomo lascerà il padre e la madre e si unirà alla propria moglie e così i due diventeranno una sola carne"? | 5 and said, 'For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one'? |
| 6 In modo che non sono più due, ma una sola carne. Perciò, quello che Dio ha congiunto l'uomo non separi". | 6 So they are no longer two but one. What therefore God has joined together, let not man put asunder." |
| 7 Gli dissero: "Perché dunque Mosè comandò di dare il libello del ripudio e così rimandarla?". | 7 They said to him, "Why then did Moses command one to give a certificate of divorce, and to put her away?" |
| 8 Rispose loro: "Mosè per la vostra durezza di cuore concesse a voi di ripudiare le vostre mogli; ma all'inizio non è stato così. | 8 He said to them, "For your hardness of heart Moses allowed you to divorce your wives, but from the beginning it was not so. |
| 9 Ora io vi dico: chi ripudia la propria moglie, se non per impudicizia, e sposa un'altra, commette adulterio". | 9 And I say to you: whoever divorces his wife, except for unchastity, and marries another, commits adultery; and he who marries a divorced woman, commits adultery." |
| 10 Gli dicono i discepoli: "Se tale è la condizione dell'uomo rispetto alla moglie, non conviene sposarsi". | 10 The disciples said to him, "If such is the case of a man with his wife, it is not expedient to marry." |
| 11 Egli disse loro: "Non tutti comprendono questo discorso, ma soltanto coloro ai quali è dato. | 11 But he said to them, "Not all men can receive this saying, but only those to whom it is given. |
| 12 Vi sono infatti eunuchi che nacquero così dal seno della madre, e vi sono eunuchi i quali furono resi tali dagli uomini, e vi sono eunuchi che si resero tali da sé per il regno dei cieli. Chi può comprendere, comprenda". | 12 For there are eunuchs who have been so from birth, and there are eunuchs who have been made eunuchs by men, and there are eunuchs who have made themselves eunuchs for the sake of the kingdom of heaven. He who is able to receive this, let him receive it." |
| 13 Allora furono presentati a lui dei bambini affinché pregasse imponendo su di loro le mani; i discepoli però li sgridavano; ma Gesù disse: | 13 Then children were brought to him that he might lay his hands on them and pray. The disciples rebuked the people; |
| 14 "Lasciate stare, non impedite che i bambini vengano a me; di tali, infatti, è il regno dei cieli". | 14 but Jesus said, "Let the children come to me, and do not hinder them; for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven." |
| 15 E, imposte le mani su di loro, partì di là. | 15 And he laid his hands on them and went away. |
| 16 Ed ecco, un tale gli si avvicinò e disse: "Maestro, che cosa debbo fare di bene per acquistare la vita eterna?". | 16 And behold, one came up to him, saying, "Teacher, what good deed must I do, to have eternal life?" |
| 17 Egli a lui: "Perché mi interroghi sul buono? Uno solo è il buono. Se però vuoi entrare nella vita, osserva i comandamenti". | 17 And he said to him, "Why do you ask me about what is good? One there is who is good. If you would enter life, keep the commandments." |
| 18 Gli dice: "Quali?". Gesù rispose: "Sono: Non ucciderai, non commetterai adulterio, non ruberai, non dirai falsa testimonianza; | 18 He said to him, "Which?" And Jesus said, "You shall not kill, You shall not commit adultery, You shall not steal, You shall not bear false witness, |
| 19 onora il padre e la madre e amerai il prossimo tuo come te stesso". | 19 Honor your father and mother, and, You shall love your neighbor as yourself." |
| 20 Gli dice il giovane: "Tutte queste cose le ho osservate: che cosa ancora mi manca?". | 20 The young man said to him, "All these I have observed; what do I still lack?" |
| 21 Gesù a lui: "Se vuoi essere perfetto, va', vendi quello che hai e dàllo ai poveri, e avrai un tesoro in cielo: poi vieni e seguimi". | 21 Jesus said to him, "If you would be perfect, go, sell what you possess and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me." |
| 22 All'udir ciò, il giovane se ne andò afflitto, poiché aveva molte ricchezze. | 22 When the young man heard this he went away sorrowful; for he had great possessions. |
| 23 Gesù disse ai suoi discepoli: "In verità vi dico: difficilmente un ricco entrerà nel regno dei cieli; | 23 And Jesus said to his disciples, "Truly, I say to you, it will be hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. |
| 24 ancora vi dico: è più facile che un cammello entri per la cruna di un ago, che un ricco nel regno di Dio". | 24 Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God." |
| 25 All'udir ciò, i discepoli rimasero sbigottiti e domandarono: "Chi dunque riuscirà a salvarsi?". | 25 When the disciples heard this they were greatly astonished, saying, "Who then can be saved?" |
| 26 Fissando su di loro lo sguardo, Gesù rispose: "Presso gli uomini ciò non è possibile, ma tutto è possibile presso Dio". | 26 But Jesus looked at them and said to them, "With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible." |
| 27 Allora Pietro prese la parola e gli disse: "Ecco, noi abbiamo lasciato ogni cosa e ti abbiamo seguito: che cosa dunque avremo?". | 27 Then Peter said in reply, "Lo, we have left everything and followed you. What then shall we have?" |
| 28 Gesù rispose loro: "In verità vi dico: voi che mi avete seguito, nella rigenerazione, quando il Figlio dell'uomo sederà sul suo trono di gloria, sederete anche voi su dodici troni a giudicare le dodici tribù d'Israele. | 28 Jesus said to them, "Truly, I say to you, in the new world, when the Son of man shall sit on his glorious throne, you who have followed me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. |
| 29 E chiunque ha lasciato case o fratelli o sorelle o padre o madre o moglie o figli o campi per il mio nome, riceverà il centuplo ed erediterà la vita eterna". | 29 And every one who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or children or lands, for my name's sake, will receive a hundredfold, and inherit eternal life. |
| 30 "Molti primi saranno ultimi e molti ultimi saranno primi. | 30 But many that are first will be last, and the last first. |
