Geremia 51

LA SACRA BIBBIA	DOUAI-RHEIMS
1 Così dice il Signore: "Eccomi a far destare contro Babilonia e contro gli abitanti della Caldea uno spirito di distruzione.	1 Thus saith the Lord: Behold I will raise up as it were a pestilential wind against Babylon and against the inhabitants thereof, who have lifted up their heart against me.
2 Invierò contro Babilonia spulatori e la spuleranno e svuoteranno il suo territorio. Saranno contro di essa da ogni parte nel giorno della sventura.	2 And I will send to Babylon fanners, and they shall fan her, and shall destroy her land: for they are come upon her on every side in the day of her affliction.
3 Contro chi tende, tenda il tiratore il suo arco e contro chi indossa la propria corazza; non abbiate compassione per i suoi giovani: sterminate tutto il suo esercito.	3 Let not him that bendeth, bend his bow, and let not, him go up that is armed with a coat of mail: spare not her young men, destroy all her army.
4 Cadano feriti nel paese dei Caldei e trafitti nelle sue strade	4 And the slain shall fall in the land of the Chaldeans, and the wounded in the regions thereof.
5 -- ma non siano resi vedovi Israele e Giuda del loro Dio, del Signore degli eserciti -- poiché il loro paese è pieno di delitto contro il Santo d'Israele.	5 For Israel and Juda have not been forsaken by their God the Lord of hosts: but their land hath been filled with sin against the Holy One of Israel.
6 Fuggite di mezzo a Babilonia e salvi ognuno se stesso; non vogliate perire nelle loro iniquità, poiché è tempo di vendetta per il Signore, egli ripaga ad essa quanto s'è meritata.	6 Flee ye from the midst of Babylon, and let every one save his own life: be not silent upon her iniquity: for it is the time of revenge from the Lord, he will I render unto her what she hath deserved.
7 Vaso d'oro era Babilonia in mano del Signore che inebriava tutta la terra; del suo vino bevevano le nazioni, per questo esse impazzirono.	7 Babylon hath been a golden cup in the hand of the Lord, that made all the earth drunk: the nations have drunk of her wine, and therefore they have staggered.
8 Improvvisamente è caduta Babilonia, ed è stata spezzata: ululate sopra di essa. Prendete balsamo per le sue ferite, forse guarirà.	8 Babylon is suddenly fallen, and destroyed: howl for her, take balm for her pain, if so she may be healed.
9 Abbiamo curato Babilonia, ma non è guarita. Lasciatela. Torniamo ciascuno al proprio paese poiché tocca il cielo il suo giudizio e si eleva fino alle nubi".	9 We would have cured Babylon, but she is not healed: let us forsake her, and let us go every man to his own land: because her judgment hath reached even to the heavens, and is lifted up to the clouds.
10 Il Signore ha fatto vincere la nostra giusta causa: venite e raccontiamo in Sion l'opera del Signore, Dio nostro.	10 The Lord hath brought forth our justices: Come, and let us declare in Sion the work of the Lord our God.
11 Affilate le frecce, riempite le faretre. Ha risvegliato il Signore lo spirito del re dei Medi, perché contro Babilonia è il suo piano, per distruggerla. Sì, questa è la vendetta del Signore, la vendetta del suo tempio.	11 Sharpen the arrows, fill the quivers, the Lord hath raised up the spirit of the kings of the Medes: and his mind is against Babylon to destroy it, because it is the vengeance of the Lord, the vengeance of his temple.
12 Contro le mura di Babilonia elevate un vessillo, rafforzate la custodia, stabilite le sentinelle, preparate agguati, poiché ha progettato il Signore, e anche eseguito, ciò che ha predetto contro gli abitanti di Babilonia.	12 Upon the walls of Babylon set up the standard, strengthen the watch: set up the watchmen, prepare the ambushes: for the Lord hath both purposed, and done all that he spoke against the inhabitants of Babylon.
13 Tu che abiti presso acque abbondanti, o ricca di tesori: è arrivata la tua fine, il tempo del tuo taglio.	13 O thou that dwellest upon many waters, rich in treasures, thy end is come for thy entire destruction.
14 Ha giurato, il Signore degli eserciti, per se stesso: "Ti riempio d'uomini come locuste", che canteranno contro di te il grido di trionfo.	14 The Lord of hosts hath sworn by himself, saying : I will fill thee with men as with locusts, and they shall lift up a joyful shout against thee.
15 Egli ha fatto la terra con la sua potenza, ha stabilito l'universo con la sua sapienza e con la sua intelligenza ha steso i cieli.	15 He that made the earth by his power, that hath prepared the world by his wisdom, and stretched out the heavens by his understanding.
16 Quando emette la sua voce c'è tumulto d'acque in cielo e fa giungere le nubi dall'estremità della terra; lampi per la pioggia egli produce ed estrae il vento dai suoi ripostigli.	16 When he uttereth his voice the waters are multiplied in heaven: he lifteth up the clouds from the ends of the earth, he hath turned lightning into rain: and hath brought forth the wind out of his treasures.
17 Si stupisce ogni uomo perché non comprende, arrossisce ogni orefice per l'idolo, perché menzogna sono le sue fusioni: non hanno spirito;	17 Every man is become foolish by his knowledge: every founder is confounded by his idol, for what he hath cast is a lie, and there is no breath in them.
18 vanità sono, opera da buffoni; nel tempo del loro castigo periranno.	18 They are vain works, and worthy to be laughed at, in the time of their visitation they shall perish.
19 Non com'essi è l'eredità di Giacobbe, perché Creatore di tutto è lui e Israele lo scettro della sua eredità: Signore degli eserciti è il suo nome!	19 The portion of Jacob is not like them: for he that made all things he it is, and Israel is the sceptre of his inheritance: the Lord of hosts is his name.
20 "Un martello tu fosti per me, strumento di guerra; io martellavo con te le nazioni e distruggevo con te i regni;	20 Thou dashest together for me the weapons of war, and with thee I will dash nations together, and with thee I will destroy kingdoms:
21 io martellavo con te cavallo e cavaliere, io martellavo con te carro e cocchiere,	21 And with thee I will break in pieces the horse, and his rider, and with thee I will break in pieces the chariot, and him that getteth up into it:
22 io martellavo con te uomo e donna, io martellavo con te vecchio e giovane, io martellavo con te giovane e vergine,	22 And with thee I will break in pieces man and woman, and with thee I will break in pieces the old man and the child, and with thee I will break in pieces the young man and the virgin:
23 io martellavo con te il pastore e il suo gregge, io martellavo con te il contadino e i suoi buoi, io martellavo con te governatori e comandanti.	23 And with thee I will break in pieces the shepherd and his dock, and with thee I will break in pieces the husbandman and his yoke of oxen, and with thee I will break in pieces captains and rulers.
24 Ma io ripagherò Babilonia e tutti gli abitanti della Caldea per tutto il male che hanno fatto contro Sion sotto i vostri occhi. Oracolo del Signore.	24 And I will render to Babylon, and to all the inhabitants of Chaldea all their evil, that they have done in Sion, before your eyes, saith the Lord.
25 Eccomi a te, montagna della distruzione, oracolo del Signore, tu che distruggi ogni paese: io ho posto le mie mani su di te, ti rotolerò dalle rocce e ti ridurrò a una montagna bruciata,	25 Behold I come against thee, thou destroying mountain, saith the Lord, which corruptest the whole earth: and I will stretch out my hand upon thee, and will roll thee down from the rocks, and will make thee a burnt mountain.
26 cosicché non prendano da te mattone d'angolo né pietra da fondazione perché tu sarai una rovina per sempre. Oracolo del Signore".	26 And they shall not take of thee a stone for the corner, nor a stone for foundations, but thou shalt be destroyed for ever, saith the Lord.
27 "Elevate un vessillo nel paese, suonate la tromba tra le nazioni; santificate, contro di essa, le nazioni, convocate contro di essa i regni: Araràt, Minnì e Aschenàz. Stabilite contro di essa generali, spronate i cavalli come locuste pelose.	27 Set ye up a standard in the land: sound with the trumpet among the nations: prepare the nations against her: call together against her the kings of Ararat, Menni, and Ascenez: number Taphsar against her, bring the horse as the stinging locust.
28 Contro di essa preparate le nazioni: il re di Media, i suoi governatori e i suoi comandanti e tutti i paesi del suo dominio.	28 Prepare the nations against her, the kings of Media, their captains, and all their rulers, and all the land of their dominion.
29 Così tremerà il paese e si contorcerà perché si sono realizzati contro Babilonia i progetti del Signore di rendere il paese di Babilonia una devastazione, senza abitanti.	29 And the land shall be in a commotion, and shall be troubled: for the design of the Lord against Babylon shall awake, to make the land of Babylon desert and uninhabitable.
30 Rifiutano, gli eroi di Babilonia, di combattere, si ritirano nelle fortezze; è venuta meno la loro forza, sono divenuti come donne; hanno incendiato le sue abitazioni, sono state spezzate le sue sbarre.	30 The valiant men of Babylon have forborne to fight, they have dwelt in holds: their strength hath failed, and they are become as women: her dwelling places are burnt, her bars are broken.
31 Corriere incontro al corriere corre e messaggero incontro al messaggero per annunziare al re di Babilonia che è stata presa la sua città da ogni parte;	31 One running post shall meet another, and messenger shall meet messenger: to tell the king of Babylon that his city is taken from one end to the other:
32 che i guadi sono occupati e gli stagni bruciano nel fuoco e gli uomini di guerra impazziscono.	32 And that the fords are taken, and the marshes are burnt with fire, and the men of war are affrighted.
33 Sì, così dice il Signore degli eserciti, Dio d'Israele: la figlia di Babilonia è come un'aia nel tempo della sua trebbiatura, ancora un poco e arriverà per essa il tempo della mietitura".	33 For thus saith the Lord of hosts the God of Israel: The daughter of Babylon is like a thrashingfloor, this is the time of her thrashing: yet a little while, and the time of her harvest shall come.
34 "Mi ha divorato, m'ha messo in rotta, Nabucodònosor, re di Babilonia, m'ha ridotto un vaso vuoto; m'ha inghiottito come un coccodrillo, ha riempito il suo ventre con le mie ricchezze; m'ha scacciato.	34 Nabuchodonosor king of Babylon hath eaten me up, he hath devoured me: he hath made me as an empty vessel: he hath swallowed me up like a dragon, he hath filled his belly with my delicate meats, and he hath cast me out.
35 "Il mio strazio e la mia disgrazia siano su Babilonia", dice l'abitante di Sion, "il mio sangue sugli abitanti della Caldea", dice Gerusalemme.	35 The wrong done to me, and my flesh be upon Babylon, saith the habitation of Sion : and my blood upon the inhabitants of Chaldea, saith Jerusalem.
36 Perciò, così dice il Signore: Ecco: io difenderò la tua causa, io ti vendicherò; farò prosciugare il suo mare e farò inaridire la sua sorgente.	36 Therefore thus saith the Lord: Behold I will judge thy cause, and will take vengeance for thee, and I will make her sea desolate, and will dry up her spring.
37 Sarà ridotta Babilonia a mucchi di pietre, abitazione di sciacalli, devastazione e fischio, senza abitante.	37 And Babylon shall be reduced to heaps, a dwelling place for dragons, an astonishment and a hissing, because there is no inhabitant.
38 Insieme, come leoncelli ruggiscono, ringhiano come cuccioli di leoni.	38 They shall roar together like lions, they shall shake their manes like young lions.
39 Hanno caldo? Preparerò loro una bevanda, li ubriacherò affinché facciano festa, e poi dormano un sonno perpetuo sicché non si risveglino più. Oracolo del Signore.	39 In their heat I will set them drink: and I will make them drunk, that they may slumber, and sleep an everlasting sleep, and awake no more, saith the Lord.
40 Li farò scendere come agnelli al macello, come montoni insieme ai becchi".	40 I will bring them down like lambs to the slaughter, and like rams with kids.
41 "Come è stata presa Sesàc e conquistata la gloria di tutta la terra! Come è divenuta un luogo devastato Babilonia tra le nazioni!	41 How is Sesach taken, and the renowned one of all the earth surprised? How is Babylon become an astonishment among the nations?
42 E' giunto fino a Babilonia il mare, con la fiumana delle sue onde l'ha ricoperta.	42 The sea is come up over Babylon: she is covered with the multitude of the waves thereof.
43 Le sue città sono diventate una distruzione, terreno arido e steppa, dove non abita più nessuno né vi passa figlio d'uomo".	43 Her cities are become an astonishment, a land uninhabited and desolate, a land wherein none can dwell, nor son of man pass through it.
44 "Io castigherò Bel in Babilonia ed estrarrò ciò che ha ingoiato dalla sua bocca; non affluiranno più ad esso le nazioni. Persino il muro di Babilonia è caduto.	44 And I will visit against Bel in Babylon, and I will bring forth out of his mouth that which he had swallowed down: and the rations shall no more flow together to him, for the wall also of Babylon shall fall.
45 Esci di mezzo ad essa, o popolo mio, e salvi ognuno se stesso dall'ardore dell'ira del Signore!	45 Go out of the midst of her, my people: that every man may save his life from the fierce wrath of the Lord.
46 Non si turbi il vostro cuore e non temete per la notizia che è stata udita nel paese; infatti un anno giunge una notizia e l'anno dopo un'altra notizia. Ci sarà violenza nel paese e dominatore contro dominatore.	46 And lest your hearts faint, and ye fear for the rumour that shall be heard in the land : and a rumour shall come in one year, and after this year another rumour: and iniquity in the land, and ruler upon ruler.
47 Perciò, ecco: verranno giorni e io castigherò gli idoli di Babilonia e tutto il suo territorio si vergognerà e tutti i suoi feriti cadranno in mezzo ad essa.	47 Therefore behold the days come, and I will visit the idols of Babylon: and her whole land shall be confounded, and all her slain shall fall in the midst of her.
48 Gioiranno su Babilonia cieli e terra e tutto ciò che è in essi, perché dal nord verranno contro di essa i devastatori, oracolo del Signore.	48 And the heavens and the earth, and all things that are in them shall give praise for Babylon: for spoilers shall come to her from the north, saith the Lord.
49 Anche Babilonia è destinata a cadere a causa dei feriti d'Israele, come per Babilonia sono caduti i feriti di tutta la terra.	49 And as Babylon caused that there should fall slain in Israel: so of Babylon there shall fall slain in all the earth.
50 O voi, sfuggiti alla spada, andate, non vi arrestate! Da lontano ricordatevi del Signore e Gerusalemme torni alla vostra mente.	50 You that have escaped the sword, come away, stand not still: remember the Lord afar off, and let Jerusalem come into your mind.
51 Ci vergogniamo perché abbiamo udito l'oltraggio; l'ignominia copre il nostro volto perché stranieri sono entrati nel santuario della casa del Signore.	51 We are confounded, because we have heard reproach: shame hath covered our faces: because strangers are come upon the sanctuaries of the house of the Lord.
52 Perciò, ecco che vengono giorni, oracolo del Signore, in cui io castigherò i suoi idoli, e per tutto il suo territorio gemerà il ferito.	52 Therefore behold the days come, saith the Lord, and I will visit her graven things, and in all her land the wounded shall groan:
53 Quand'anche Babilonia salisse al cielo e quand'anche rendesse inaccessibile l'altezza della sua fortificazione, da parte mia verranno devastatori contro di essa.	53 If Babylon should mount up to heaven, and establish her strength on high: from me there should come spoilers upon her, saith the Lord.
54 Una voce straziante si ode da Babilonia e un grande scempio dal paese dei Caldei,	54 The noise of a cry from Babylon, and great destruction from the land of the Chaldeans :
55 perché il Signore sta devastando Babilonia e fa sparire da essa il grande rumore: tumultuano le loro onde come acque abbondanti, si trasforma in strepito la loro voce.	55 Because the Lord hath laid Babylon waste, and destroyed out of her the great voice: and their wave shall roar like many waters: their voice hath made a noise:
56 Infatti è venuto contro di essa, contro Babilonia, un devastatore e sono stati presi i suoi eroi; si sono spezzati i loro archi. Perché Dio di retribuzione è il Signore: ripaga completamente!	56 Because the spoiler is come upon her, that is, upon Babylon, and her valiant men are taken, and their bow is weakened, because the Lord, who is a strong revenger, will surely repay.
57 Ubriacherò i suoi prìncipi e i suoi sapienti, i suoi governatori, i suoi comandanti e i suoi eroi; dormiranno un sonno perpetuo e non si desteranno più". Oracolo del re, il cui nome è Signore degli eserciti.	57 And I will make her princes drunk. and her wise men, and her captains, and her rulers, and her valiant men: and they shall sleep an everlasting sleep, and shall awake no more, saith the whose name is Lord of hosts.
58 Così dice il Signore degli eserciti: "Le larghe mura di Babilonia saranno interamente smantellate e le sue alte porte nel fuoco arderanno. Si affaticarono i popoli per nulla e le nazioni in favore del fuoco si stancano".	58 Thus saith the Lord of hosts: That broad wall of Babylon shall be utterly broken down, and her high gates shall be burnt with fire, and the labours of the people shall come to nothing, and of the nations shall go to the fire, and shall perish.
59 Questo è l'ordine che dette il profeta Geremia a Seraià, figlio di Neria, figlio di Maasià, quando questi andò con Sedecia, re di Giuda, in Babilonia, nell'anno quarto del suo regno. Seraià era capo degli alloggiamenti.	59 The word that Jeremias the prophet commanded Saraias the son of Nerias, the son of Maasias, when he went with king Sedecias to Babylon, in the fourth year of his reign: now Saraias was chief over the prophecy.
60 Geremia aveva scritto tutta la sventura che sarebbe arrivata contro Babilonia, in un solo rotolo: tutte queste cose scritte contro Babilonia.	60 And Jeremias wrote in one book all the evil that was to come upon Babylon: all these words that are written against Babylon.
61 Quindi Geremia disse a Seraià: "Quando arriverai a Babilonia, fa' attenzione a leggere tutte queste parole.	61 And Jeremias said to Saraias: When thou shalt come into Babylon, and shalt see, and shalt read all these words,
62 Dirai: "Tu, Signore, hai parlato contro questo luogo per distruggerlo, affinché non vi sia più in esso abitante, dall'uomo al bestiame, perché dovrà essere un luogo devastato in perpetuo".	62 Thou shalt say: O Lord, thou hast spoken against this place to destroy it: so that there should be neither man nor beast to dwell therein, and that it should be desolate for ever.
63 Quando avrai terminato di leggere questo libro, legherai su di esso una pietra e lo getterai in mezzo all'Eufrate,	63 And when thou shalt have made an end of reading this book, thou shalt tie a stone to it, and shalt throw it into the midst of the Euphrates:
64 dicendo: "Così affonderà Babilonia e non si rialzerà più, a causa della sventura che io sto per addurre contro di essa". Fin qui le parole di Geremia.	64 And thou shalt say: Thus shall Babylon sink, and she shall not rise up from the affliction that I will bring upon her, and she shall be utterly destroyed. Thus far are the words of Jeremias.
