| 1 Questa è la parola che fu rivolta a Geremia da parte del Signore quando il re Sedecia inviò a lui Pascùr, figlio di Malchìa, e il sacerdote Sofonìa, figlio di Maasìa il sacerdote, a dirgli: | 1 This is the word which came to Jeremiah from the LORD, when King Zedekiah sent to him Pashhur the son of Malchiah and Zephaniah the priest, the son of Ma-aseiah, saying, |
| 2 "Consulta, per favore, per noi il Signore, poiché Nabucodònosor, re di Babilonia, fa guerra contro di noi. Forse il Signore agirà verso di noi in conformità ai suoi prodigi ed egli si allontanerà da noi". | 2 "Inquire of the LORD for us, for Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon is making war against us; perhaps the LORD will deal with us according to all his wonderful deeds, and will make him withdraw from us." |
| 3 Geremia rispose loro: "Così direte a Sedecia: | 3 Then Jeremiah said to them: |
| 4 Così dice il Signore, Dio d'Israele: Eccomi, io farò indietreggiare gli strumenti di guerra che sono nelle vostre mani, con i quali combattete il re di Babilonia e i Caldei che vi stanno combattendo fuori le mura, e li radunerò in mezzo a questa città. | 4 "Thus you shall say to Zedekiah, 'Thus says the LORD, the God of Israel: Behold, I will turn back the weapons of war which are in your hands and with which you are fighting against the king of Babylon and against the Chaldeans who are besieging you outside the walls; and I will bring them together into the midst of this city. |
| 5 Io poi combatterò contro di voi con mano stesa e con braccio potente, con ira, con furore e indignazione grande. | 5 I myself will fight against you with outstretched hand and strong arm, in anger, and in fury, and in great wrath. |
| 6 Percuoterò gli abitanti di questa città, sia gli uomini che le bestie con grande peste: morranno! | 6 And I will smite the inhabitants of this city, both man and beast; they shall die of a great pestilence. |
| 7 Dopo ciò, oracolo del Signore, consegnerò Sedecia, re di Giuda e i suoi ministri e tutto il popolo e quelli che in questa città scampano alla peste, alla spada e alla fame, in potere di Nabucodònosor, re di Babilonia, in potere dei loro nemici e in potere di coloro che cercano la loro vita. Egli li percuoterà a fil di spada: non li risparmierà, non perdonerà, né avrà misericordia di loro. | 7 Afterward, says the LORD, I will give Zedekiah king of Judah, and his servants, and the people in this city who survive the pestilence, sword, and famine, into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon and into the hand of their enemies, into the hand of those who seek their lives. He shall smite them with the edge of the sword; he shall not pity them, or spare them, or have compassion.' |
| 8 A questo popolo, poi, dirai: Così dice il Signore: Eccomi, io metterò dinanzi a voi la strada della vita e la strada della morte. | 8 "And to this people you shall say: 'Thus says the LORD: Behold, I set before you the way of life and the way of death. |
| 9 Chi resterà in questa città morirà di spada, di fame e di peste; ma chi esce e si consegnerà ai Caldei che vi stanno assediando, vivrà ed avrà, come suo bottino, la propria vita. | 9 He who stays in this city shall die by the sword, by famine, and by pestilence; but he who goes out and surrenders to the Chaldeans who are besieging you shall live and shall have his life as a prize of war. |
| 10 Sì, io ho fissato la mia faccia contro questa città per la sventura e non per la felicità, oracolo del Signore. Sarà consegnata in potere del re di Babilonia, che l'incendierà con il fuoco". | 10 For I have set my face against this city for evil and not for good, says the LORD: it shall be given into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall burn it with fire.' |
| 11 Alla casa del re di Giuda: "Ascoltate la parola del Signore, | 11 "And to the house of the king of Judah say, 'Hear the word of the LORD, |
| 12 o casa di Davide! Così dice il Signore: Giudicate giustamente ogni mattino e liberate il derubato dalla mano dell'oppressore, affinché non esca, qual fuoco, l'ira mia e arda e non trovi chi l'estingua a motivo della malvagità delle vostre azioni! | 12 O house of David! Thus says the LORD: "'Execute justice in the morning, and deliver from the hand of the oppressor him who has been robbed, lest my wrath go forth like fire, and burn with none to quench it, because of your evil doings.'" |
| 13 Eccomi a te, o abitante della valle, o rupe nella pianura, oracolo del Signore. Voi dite: "Chi scenderà contro di noi e chi entrerà nelle nostre dimore?". | 13 "Behold, I am against you, O inhabitant of the valley, O rock of the plain, says the LORD; you who say, 'Who shall come down against us, or who shall enter our habitations?' |
| 14 Io vi farò visita secondo il frutto delle vostre azioni, oracolo del Signore, e accenderò un fuoco alla sua foresta e divorerà tutti i suoi dintorni!". | 14 I will punish you according to the fruit of your doings, says the LORD; I will kindle a fire in her forest, and it shall devour all that is round about her." |
