| 1 Il Signore disse a Mosè: "Vedi, faccio di te come un dio per il faraone, e Aronne, tuo fratello, sarà il tuo profeta. | 1 And the LORD said to Moses, "See, I make you as God to Pharaoh; and Aaron your brother shall be your prophet. |
| 2 Tu dirai tutto quello che ti ordinerò e Aronne, tuo fratello, parlerà al faraone, perché lasci andare via i figli d'Israele dalla sua terra. | 2 You shall speak all that I command you; and Aaron your brother shall tell Pharaoh to let the people of Israel go out of his land. |
| 3 Ma io indurirò il cuore del faraone e moltiplicherò i miei segni e i miei prodigi in terra di Egitto. | 3 But I will harden Pharaoh's heart, and though I multiply my signs and wonders in the land of Egypt, |
| 4 Il faraone non vi ascolterà, e porterò la mia mano contro l'Egitto e farò uscire le mie schiere, il mio popolo, i figli d'Israele, dalla terra d'Egitto con grandi castighi. | 4 Pharaoh will not listen to you; then I will lay my hand upon Egypt and bring forth my hosts, my people the sons of Israel, out of the land of Egypt by great acts of judgment. |
| 5 L'Egitto saprà allora che io sono il Signore, quando stenderò la mia mano sull'Egitto e farò uscire i figli d'Israele di mezzo a loro". | 5 And the Egyptians shall know that I am the LORD, when I stretch forth my hand upon Egypt and bring out the people of Israel from among them." |
| 6 Mosè ed Aronne fecero come aveva ordinato loro il Signore: così fecero. | 6 And Moses and Aaron did so; they did as the LORD commanded them. |
| 7 Quando parlarono al faraone, Mosè aveva ottant'anni e Aronne ottantatré. | 7 Now Moses was eighty years old, and Aaron eighty- three years old, when they spoke to Pharaoh. |
| 8 Il Signore disse a Mosè e ad Aronne: | 8 And the LORD said to Moses and Aaron, |
| 9 "Se il faraone vi parla dicendo: "Fate un prodigio", dirai ad Aronne: "Prendi il tuo bastone e gettalo davanti al faraone: diventerà un drago". | 9 "When Pharaoh says to you, 'Prove yourselves by working a miracle,' then you shall say to Aaron, 'Take your rod and cast it down before Pharaoh, that it may become a serpent.'" |
| 10 Mosè ed Aronne vennero dal faraone e fecero come aveva ordinato il Signore; Aronne gettò il suo bastone davanti al faraone e davanti ai suoi servi, e diventò un drago. | 10 So Moses and Aaron went to Pharaoh and did as the LORD commanded; Aaron cast down his rod before Pharaoh and his servants, and it became a serpent. |
| 11 Ma anche il faraone chiamò sapienti e incantatori, e anche i maghi d'Egitto coi loro sortilegi fecero così. | 11 Then Pharaoh summoned the wise men and the sorcerers; and they also, the magicians of Egypt, did the same by their secret arts. |
| 12 Ognuno gettò il proprio bastone, che diventò drago, ma il bastone di Aronne ingoiò i loro bastoni. | 12 For every man cast down his rod, and they became serpents. But Aaron's rod swallowed up their rods. |
| 13 Tuttavia il cuore del faraone restò duro e non li ascoltò, come aveva detto il Signore. | 13 Still Pharaoh's heart was hardened, and he would not listen to them; as the LORD had said. |
| 14 Il Signore disse a Mosè: "Il cuore del faraone si è indurito rifiutando di lasciare andare il popolo. | 14 Then the LORD said to Moses, "Pharaoh's heart is hardened, he refuses to let the people go. |
| 15 Va' dal faraone di mattina, proprio quando esce verso l'acqua: mettiti in modo da incontrarlo ai margini del fiume, e terrai in mano il bastone che si è cambiato in serpente. | 15 Go to Pharaoh in the morning, as he is going out to the water; wait for him by the river's brink, and take in your hand the rod which was turned into a serpent. |
| 16 Gli dirai: "Il Signore, Dio degli Ebrei, mi ha mandato da te dicendo: manda via il mio popolo, perché mi serva nel deserto; ecco, finora tu non hai ascoltato. | 16 And you shall say to him, 'The LORD, the God of the Hebrews, sent me to you, saying, "Let my people go, that they may serve me in the wilderness; and behold, you have not yet obeyed." |
| 17 Così dice il Signore: con questo saprai che io sono il Signore: ecco, con il bastone che ho in mano, io colpirò l'acqua che è nel fiume, e si cambierà in sangue. | 17 Thus says the LORD, "By this you shall know that I am the LORD: behold, I will strike the water that is in the Nile with the rod that is in my hand, and it shall be turned to blood, |
| 18 I pesci che sono nel fiume moriranno, il fiume puzzerà e l'Egitto non potrà più bere l'acqua del fiume". | 18 and the fish in the Nile shall die, and the Nile shall become foul, and the Egyptians will loathe to drink water from the Nile.'" |
| 19 Il Signore disse a Mosè: "Di' ad Aronne: "Prendi il tuo bastone e stendi la tua mano sulle acque dell'Egitto, sui suoi fiumi, sui suoi canali, sui suoi stagni e su tutti i loro depositi d'acqua, e diventerà sangue; ci sarà sangue in tutto il paese d'Egitto, nei recipienti di legno e di pietra". | 19 And the LORD said to Moses, "Say to Aaron, 'Take your rod and stretch out your hand over the waters of Egypt, over their rivers, their canals, and their ponds, and all their pools of water, that they may become blood; and there shall be blood throughout all the land of Egypt, both in vessels of wood and in vessels of stone.'" |
| 20 Così fecero Mosè ed Aronne, come aveva ordinato il Signore: alzò il suo bastone e colpì l'acqua che era nel fiume davanti agli occhi del faraone e agli occhi dei suoi servi, e tutta l'acqua che era nel fiume si cambiò in sangue. | 20 Moses and Aaron did as the LORD commanded; in the sight of Pharaoh and in the sight of his servants, he lifted up the rod and struck the water that was in the Nile, and all the water that was in the Nile turned to blood. |
| 21 I pesci che erano nel fiume morirono, il fiume puzzò, e gli Egiziani non poterono berne le acque. Vi fu sangue in tutto il paese d'Egitto. | 21 And the fish in the Nile died; and the Nile became foul, so that the Egyptians could not drink water from the Nile; and there was blood throughout all the land of Egypt. |
| 22 Lo stesso fecero i maghi d'Egitto con i loro sortilegi; e il cuore del faraone si indurì e non li ascoltò, come aveva detto il Signore. | 22 But the magicians of Egypt did the same by their secret arts; so Pharaoh's heart remained hardened, and he would not listen to them; as the LORD had said. |
| 23 Il faraone si voltò e andò alla sua casa, e non fece caso neppure a ciò. | 23 Pharaoh turned and went into his house, and he did not lay even this to heart. |
| 24 Tutti gli Egiziani scavarono nei dintorni del fiume per avere acqua potabile, perché non potevano bere dell'acqua del fiume. | 24 And all the Egyptians dug round about the Nile for water to drink, for they could not drink the water of the Nile. |
| 25 Sette giorni trascorsero, da quando il Signore aveva colpito il fiume. | 25 Seven days passed after the LORD had struck the Nile. |
| 26 Il Signore disse a Mosè: "Entra dal faraone e digli: "Così ha detto il Signore: manda via il mio popolo perché mi serva. | |
| 27 E se tu rifiuti di mandarlo via, ecco io colpisco tutti i tuoi confini con delle rane. | |
| 28 Il fiume pullulerà di rane: saliranno e verranno nella tua casa, nella camera dove riposi e sul tuo letto, nella casa dei tuoi servi e tra il tuo popolo, nei tuoi forni e nelle tue madie. | |
| 29 Contro di te, contro il tuo popolo e contro tutti i tuoi servi saliranno le rane". | |
