Neemia 3

1 Si levò allora Eliasib, sommo sacerdote, assieme ai suoi fratelli sacerdoti, e costruirono la porta delle Pecore. Essi stessi la consacrarono e vi misero i battenti. Continuarono a costruire fino alla torre di Mea, che poi consacrarono, e fino alla torre di Cananeèl.	1 Then Eliashib the high priest rose up with his brethren the priests and they built the Sheep Gate. They consecrated it and set its doors; they consecrated it as far as the Tower of the Hundred, as far as the Tower of Hananel.
2 Accanto a loro edificarono gli uomini di Gerico. Vicino a questi costruì Zaccùr, figlio di Imri.	2 And next to him the men of Jericho built. And next to them Zaccur the son of Imri built.
3 I figli di Senaa costruirono la porta dei Pesci; ne fecero l'intelaiatura, vi misero i battenti, le serrature e le sbarre.	3 And the sons of Hassenaah built the Fish Gate; they laid its beams and set its doors, its bolts, and its bars.
4 Accanto a loro lavorò alla restaurazione Meremòt, figlio di Uria, figlio di Hakkoz; vicino a costui Mesullàm, figlio di Berechia, figlio di Mesezabèel; vicino a questi riparò Zadòk, figlio di Baana.	4 And next to them Meremoth the son of Uriah, son of Hakkoz repaired. And next to them Meshullam the son of Berechiah, son of Meshezabel repaired. And next to them Zadok the son of Baana repaired.
5 Accanto ad essi lavorarono alle riparazioni le genti di Tekòa; ma i loro notabili non piegarono il collo al servizio del loro Signore.	5 And next to them the Tekoites repaired; but their nobles did not put their necks to the work of their Lord.
6 Ioiadà, figlio di Pasèach, e Mesullàm, figlio di Besodia, ripararono la porta Vecchia. Essi ne fecero l'intelaiatura, vi misero i battenti, le serrature e le sbarre.	6 And Joiada the son of Paseah and Meshullam the son of Besodeiah repaired the Old Gate; they laid its beams and set its doors, its bolts, and its bars.
7 Accanto a loro restaurarono Melatia, il gabaonita, Iadon, il meronotita e gli uomini di Gàbaon e di Mizpà, per conto del governatore dell'Oltrefiume.	7 And next to them repaired Melatiah the Gibeonite and Jadon the Meronothite, the men of Gibeon and of Mizpah, who were under the jurisdiction of the governor of the province Beyond the River.
8 Vicino a costoro lavorò per le riparazioni Uzziel, figlio di Caraia, uno degli orefici; e accanto a questi riparò Anania, uno dei profumieri. Essi restaurarono Gerusalemme fino al Muro Largo.	8 Next to them Uzziel the son of Harhaiah, goldsmiths, repaired. 9 Al loro fianco restaurò Refaia, figlio di Cur, capo di metà del distretto di Gerusalemme.	9 Next to them Rephaiah the son of Hur, ruler of half the district of Jerusalem, repaired.
10 Al suo fianco restaurò Iedaiah, figlio di Carumaf, dirimpetto alla propria casa. Vicino a lui restaurò Cattus, figlio di Casabnià.	10 Next to them Jedaiah the son of Harumaph repaired opposite his house; and next to him Hattush the son of Hashabneiah repaired.
11 Malachia, figlio di Carim, e Cassùb, figlio di Pacat-Moab, restaurarono il tratto seguente e la torre dei Forni.	11 Malchijah the son of Harim and Hasshub the son of Pahath-moab repaired another section and the Tower of the Ovens.

13 Ripararono la porta della Valle Canùn e gli abitanti di Zanòach. Essi la costruirono, vi misero i battenti, le serrature e le sbarre. Ricostruirono inoltre mille cubiti di muro, sino alla porta del Letame.	13 Hanun and the inhabitants of Zanoah repaired the Valley Gate; they rebuilt it and set its doors, its bolts, and its bars, and repaired a thousand cubits of the wall, as far as the Dung Gate.
14 Malachia, figlio di Recàb, capo del distretto di Bet-Kerem, riparò la porta del Letame; la ricostruì, vi mise i battenti, le serrature e le sbarre.	14 Malchijah the son of Rechab, ruler of the district of Beth-haccherem, repaired the Dung Gate; he rebuilt it and set its doors, its bolts, and its bars.
15 La porta della Sorgente la restaurò Sallùn, figlio di Col-Coze, capo del distretto di Mizpà. Egli la costruì, la ricoperse, vi pose i battenti, le serrature e le sbarre. Ricostruì inoltre il muro della cisterna di Siloe, presso il giardino del re, fino ai gradini che scendono dalla Città di Davide.	15 And Shallum the son of Colhozeh, ruler of the district of Mizpah, repaired the Fountain Gate; he rebuilt it and covered it and set its doors, its bolts, and its bars; and he built the wall of the Pool of Shelah of the king's garden, as far as the stairs that go down from the City of David.
16 Dopo di lui Neemia, figlio di Azbuk, capo di metà del distretto di Bet-Zur, lavorò alle riparazioni dirimpetto ai sepolcri di Davide, fino alla cisterna artificiale e fino alla casa dei Prodi.	16 After him Nehemiah the son of Azbuk, ruler of half the district of Beth-zur, repaired to a point opposite the sepulchres of David, to the artificial pool, and to the house of the mighty men.
17 Dopo di lui restaurarono i leviti: Recum, figlio di Bani, e vicino a lui Casabià, capo di metà del distretto di Keilà, per il suo distretto.	17 After him the Levites repaired: Rehum the son of Bani; next to him Hashabiah, ruler of half the district of Keilah, repaired for his district.
18 Dopo di essi lavorarono alle riparazioni i loro fratelli: Binnui, figlio di Chenadàd, capo dell'altra metà del distretto di Keilà.	18 After him their brethren repaired: Bavvai the son of Henadad, ruler of half the district of Keilah;

21 Meremòt, figlio di Uria, figlio di Hakkoz, restaurò, dopo di lui, un altro settore, dall'ingresso della casa di Eliasib sino alla fine di essa.	21 After him Meremoth the son of Uriah, son of Hakkoz repaired another section from the door of the house of Eliashib to the end of the house of Eliashib.
22 Dopo di lui lavorarono alle riparazioni i sacerdoti, abitanti delle adiacenze.	22 After him the priests, the men of the Plain, repaired.
23 Dopo di loro restaurarono Beniamino e Cassùb, dirimpetto alle loro case. Dopo di essi Azaria, figlio di Maaseia, figlio di Anania, lavorò alle riparazioni presso la sua casa.	23 After them Benjamin and Hasshub repaired opposite their house. After them Azariah the son of Ma-aseiah, son of Ananiah repaired beside his own house.

25 Palal, figlio di Uzai, lavorò dirimpetto all'angolo e alla torre che sporge dalla casa superiore del re, che dà sul cortile della prigione; dopo di lui lavorò Pedaia, figlio di Pareos.	25 and to the corner. 28 Al di sopra della porta dei Cavalli, i sacerdoti lavorarono alle riparazioni, ciascuno di fronte alla propria casa.	28 Above the Horse Gate the priests repaired, each one opposite his own house.
29 Zadòk, figlio di Immer, restaurò dopo di loro, di fronte alla propria casa. E dopo di lui restaurò Semaia, figlio di Secania, custode della porta orientale.	29 After them Zadok the son of Immer repaired opposite his own house. After him Shemaiah the son of Shecaniah, the keeper of the East Gate, repaired.
30 Dopo di questi Anania, figlio di Selemia, e Canùn, sesto figlio di Zalaf, ripararono un altro settore. 31 Malchia, uno degli orefici, restaurò dopo di lui sino alla casa degli oblati e dei mercanti, dirimpetto alla porta della Rassegna e fino alla sala alta dell'angolo.	31 After him Malchijah, one of the goldsmiths, repaired as far as the house of the temple servants and of the merchants, opposite the Muster Gate, and to the upper chamber of the corner.
32 Tra la sala alta dell'angolo e la porta delle Pecore lavorarono alle riparazioni gli orefici e i mercanti.	32 And between the upper chamber of the corner and the Sheep Gate the goldsmiths and the merchants repaired.
33 Quando Sanballàt venne a sapere che noi edificavamo le mura, s'indignò e si adirò terribilmente. Prese a schernire i Giudei,
34 gridando davanti ai suoi fratelli e ai soldati di Samaria: "Che cosa stanno facendo questi miserabili Giudei? Saranno forse lasciati agire? Offriranno sacrifici e finiranno in un giorno solo? Faranno forse rivivere dai mucchi di polvere le pietre già bruciate dal fuoco?".
35 Tobia, l'ammonita, che gli stava a fianco, esclamò: "Costruiscano pure! Ma se uno sciacallo si lancerà contro, rovescerà il loro muro di pietra!".
36 Ascolta, o nostro Dio, perché siamo oggetto di scherno! Fa' ricadere sul loro capo il loro vituperio e abbandonali alla derisione in una terra di schiavitù!
37 Non nascondere la loro iniquità e il loro peccato non sia cancellato dal tuo cospetto; giacché essi hanno pronunciato insulti in faccia ai costruttori.
38 Orbene, noi ricostruimmo le mura, completandole totalmente fino a mezza altezza. La volontà del popolo era di agire.
