1 Joash was seven years old when he came to the throne and he reigned for forty years in Jerusalem.His mother's name was Zibiah of Beersheba.	1 Joás tinha sete anos, quando começou a reinar, e reinou quarenta anos em Jerusalém. Sua mãe chamava-se Sebia, de Bersabé.
2 Joash did what Yahweh regards as right throughout the lifetime of Jehoiada the priest.	2 Fez o que era bom aos olhos do Senhor todo o tempo que viveu o pontífice Jojada.
3 Jehoiada found him two wives and he fathered several sons and daughters.	3 Jojada casou-o com duas mulheres, das quais teve filhos e filhas.
4 Later, Joash made up his mind to repair the Temple of Yahweh.	4 Depois disto Joás quis reparar a casa do Senhor.
5 Calling the priests and the Levites together, he said, 'Go out to the towns of Judah and collect moneyfrom al Israel for annual repairs to the Temple of Yahweh. Do this quickly.' But the Levites were in no hurry,	5 Mandou juntar os sacerdotes e os Levitas, e disse-lhes: Sai por todas as cidades de Judá e cobrai, todos os anos, de todo o (povo de) Israel o dinheiro para a reparação do templo do vosso Deus; fazei isto com toda a diligência. Os Levitas, porém, procederam com negligência.
6 so the king summoned Jehoiada the chief priest and said, 'Why have you not insisted on the Levites'bringing in the tax from Judah and Jerusalem for the Tent of Witness, as imposed by Moses servant of Yahwehand the community of Israel?' --	6 Mandou, então, o rei chamar o pontífice Jojada e disse-lhe: Por que não tiveste tu cuidado de obrigar os Levitas a trazerem de Judá e de Jerusalém o dinheiro com que Moisés, servo do Senhor, determinou que contribuísse todo o povo de Israel para o tabernáculo do testemunho?
7 Athaliah and her sons, whom she corrupted, despoiled the Temple of God and even assigned al thesacred revenues of the Temple of Yahweh to Baal.	7 Com efeito, a impiíssima Atalia e seus filhos tinham destruído a casa de Deus, e, com tudo o que tinha sido consagrado ao templo do Senhor, ornaram o templo de Baal.
8 So, at the king's order, a chest was made and put outside the gate of the Temple of Yahweh,	8 Mandou, então, o rei que fizessem um cofre, que foi colocado junto da porta da casa do Senhor, da parte de fora.
9 and a proclamation was issued throughout Judah and Jerusalem that the tax, which Moses servant ofGod had imposed on Israel in the desert, was to be brought to Yahweh.	9 Depois publicou-se em Judá e em Jerusalém a contribuição que Moisés, servo de Deus, tinha imposto a todo o Israel no deserto.
10 Then al the officials and all the people gladly brought in their contributions, depositing them in thechest until the payment was complete.	10 Alegraram-se todos os príncipes e todo o povo, e, concorrendo, lançaram na caixa do Senhor dinheiro, e lançaram tanto que ficou cheia.
11 Whenever the chest was brought by the Levites for royal inspection and found to contain a large sumof money, the king's secretary and the chief priest's representative would come and empty the chest and thenhave it returned to its place. This was done day after day and a great deal of money was col ected.	11 Chegado o tempo de levar este cofre à presença do rei por mãos dos Levitas (quando eles viam que havia muito dinheiro), o escrivão do rei entrava com aquele que o sumo pontífice tinha, designado, e despejavam o dinheiro que havia no cofre; depois tornavam a levar o cofre para o seu lugar. Assim o faziam todas as vezes. Com isto se recolheu uma imensa quantia de dinheiro,
12 The king and Jehoiada handed it over to the foreman attached to the Temple of Yahweh, and thehired masons and carpenters set about repairing the Temple of Yahweh; and iron-workers and bronze-workerslaboured to repair the Temple of Yahweh.	12 que o rei e Jojada deram aos inspetores das obras da casa do Senhor, os quais pagavam com ele aos canteiros e carpinteiros para se reparar a casa do Senhor, assim como aos que trabalhavam em ferro e em bronze, para se segurar o que ameaçava ruína.
13 The workmen got on with the task -- the repair work made good progress at their hands -- until theyhad restored the Temple of God to its former state and reconditioned it.	13 Estes operários trabalhavam com muito esmero; por suas mãos repararam as fendas das paredes, restituíram a casa do Senhor ao seu antigo estado e fizeram com que ficasse firme.
14 When they had finished, they brought the balance of the money to the king and Jehoiada, and withthis vessels were made for the Temple of Yahweh, vessels for the liturgy and for the burnt offerings, bowls andother gold and silver vessels. And the perpetual burnt offering was offered in the Temple of Yahweh throughoutJehoiada's lifetime.	14 Depois que concluíram todas as obras, levaram ao rei e a Jojada o remanescente do dinheiro. Com ele foram feitos os vasos para o ministério do templo e para os holocaustos, e copos e outros vasos de ouro e prata. Foram oferecidos continuamente holocaustos na casa do Senhor, durante toda a vida de Jojada.
15 But Jehoiada, growing old, had his fil of days and died. He died at the age of a hundred and thirtyyears,	15 Jojada, envelhecido, cheio de dias, morreu, tendo de idade cento e trinta anos.
16 and was buried with the kings in the City of David because he had served Israel and God and hisTemple well.	16 Sepultaram-no com os reis na cidade de David, por ele ter feito bem a Israel e à sua casa.
17 After Jehoiada's death the officials of Judah came to pay court to the king, and the king listened totheir advice,	17 Depois que Jojada morreu, entraram os príncipes de Judá e prestaram grandes obséquios ao rei, o qual, atraído pelas suas lisonjas, se deixou levar por eles.
18 and they abandoned the Temple of Yahweh, God of their ancestors, for the worship of sacred polesand idols. Judah and Jerusalem incurred wrath because of this guilt of theirs.	18 Abandonaram o templo do Senhor Deus de seus pais e prestaram culto aos ascheros e às estátuas. Este pecado atraiu a ira do Senhor contra Judá e contra Jerusalém.
19 He sent their prophets to lead them back to Yahweh; these put the case against them, but theywould not listen.	19 O Senhor enviava-lhes profetas para que se convertessem a ele, porém, por mais que estes protestassem, não lhes queriam dar ouvidos.
20 The spirit of God then invested Zechariah son of Jehoiada the priest. He stood up before the peopleand said, 'God says this, "Why transgress Yahweh's commands to your certain ruin? For if you abandonYahweh, he will abandon you."	20 O espírito de Deus desceu sobre o sumo sacerdote Zacarias, filho de Jojada, que se apresentou diante do povo e disse: Eis o que diz o Senhor Deus: Porque violais vós os preceitos do Senhor? Assim não prosperareis; porque abandonastes o Senhor, também ele vos abandonará.
21 They then plotted against him and, at the king's order, stoned him in the court of the Temple ofYahweh.	21 Eles, congregando-se contra ele, apedrejaram-no no átrio da casa do Senhor, conforme a ordem do rei.
22 Thus King Joash, forgetful of the devotion which Jehoiada father of Zechariah had displayed on hisbehalf, murdered his son, who cried out as he died, 'Yahweh wil see this and avenge it!'	22 O rei Joás não se lembrou da misericórdia que Jojada, pai de Zacarias, tinha usado com ele, mas matou-lhe seu filho, o qual, quando expirava, disse: O Senhor veja e faça justiça.
23 At the turn of the year, the Aramaean army made war on Joash. When they reached Judah andJerusalem, they massacred al the nation's government officials and sent al their booty to the king of Damascus.	23 Ao cabo dum ano, marchou o exército da Síria contra Joás; foi a Judá e a Jerusalém, matou todos os príncipes do povo e enviou ao rei, a Damasco, toda a presa.
24 Although the invading Aramaean army was only a smal body of men, Yahweh al owed them todefeat a very large army because they had abandoned Yahweh, God of their ancestors; thus they executedjudgement on Joash. After they had retired -- for they left him seriously wounded-	24 Embora os Sírios fossem em pequeníssimo número, o Senhor entregou-lhes nas suas mãos uma multidão infinita (de Israelitas), porque eles tinham deixado o Senhor Deus de seus pais. Ao próprio Joás trataram ignominiosamente.
25 his own retainers plotted against him to avenge the blood of the son of Jehoiada the priest andmurdered him in his bed. When he died he was buried in the City of David, but not in the tombs of the kings.	25 Logo que, coberto de muitos ferimentos, (os Sírios) o deixaram, os seus servidores levantaram-se contra ele, para vingarem o sangue do filho do pontífice Jojada, e assassinaram-no no seu leito, onde (desta forma) morreu. Sepultaram-no na cidade de David, mas não no jazigo dos reis.
26 These were the conspirators: Zabad son of Shimeath the Ammonite and Jehozabad son of Shimriththe Moabite.	26 Os que conspiraram contra ele foram Zabad, filho de Samaat, mulher amonita, e Josabad, filho de Semarit, mulher moabita.
27 As regards his sons, the heavy tribute imposed on him, and the restoration of the Temple of God,this is recorded in the Commentary on the Book of the Kings. His son Amaziah succeeded him.	27 Quanto aos seus filhos, quanto às numerosas profecias pronunciadas contra ele, e quanto ao restabelecimento da casa de Deus, tudo isto está escrito minuciosamente nas Memórias do livro dos Reis. Amasias, seu filho, reinou em seu lugar.
