1 Chronicles 21

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA VOLGARE
1 Satan took his stand against Israel and incited David to take a census of Israel.	1 Levossi Satana contro Israel; e provocò David, che numerasse Israel.
2 David said to Joab and the people's princes, 'Go, and take a census of Israel, from Beersheba to Dan,then bring it back to me and let me know the total.'	2 E disse David a Ioab e a' principi del popolo : andate e numerate Israel da Bersebee insino a Dan; e recatemi il numero, acciò ch' io il sappia.
3 Joab replied, 'May Yahweh multiply his people to a hundred times what they are today! But my lordking, are they not all my lord's servants in any case? Why should my lord insist on this? Why should he involveIsrael in guilt?'	3 E rispose Ioab; accresca il Signore il suo popolo cento cotanti che sia; signore mio re, non sono egli tutti tuoi servi? perchè il signore mio domanda questo, che sarà imputato a peccato ad Israel?
4 But the king enforced his order on Joab, and Joab set out, travelled throughout al Israel, and thenreturned to Jerusalem.	4 Ma la parola del re ottenne più; e uscìo Ioab, e cercoe tutto Israel; e ritornò in Ierusalem.
5 Joab gave David the census results for the people: al Israel had eleven hundred thousand men whocould wield a sword; Judah had four hundred and seventy thousand men who could wield a sword.	5 E diede a David il numero di quelli ch' avea raunati; e fu trovato il numero di (tutto) Israel, in tutto, mille migliaia e centomilia di uomini d'arme; e di Giuda CCCCLXX milia uomini da battaglia.
6 Joab had found the king's command so distasteful that he did not include Levi and Benjamin.	6 E non numeroe Levi e Beniamin; però che isforzato Ioab facea il comandamento del re.
7 God looked with displeasure on this and punished Israel in consequence.	7 E dispiacque a Dio quello ch' avea comandato; e percosse Israel.
8 David then said to God, 'I have committed a grave sin by doing this. But now I beg you to forgive yourservant for this fault, for I have acted very foolishly.'	8 E David disse a Dio: io hoe troppo peccato, facendo questo; onde ti priego che tu tolga via la iniquità del servo tuo, però ch' io ho fatto scioccamente.
9 Yahweh then spoke to Gad, David's seer,	9 E Dio parlò a Gad, vidente [di] David, e disse:
10 'Go and say to David, "Yahweh says this: I offer you three things; choose which one of them I am toinflict on you." '	10 Vattene a David, e digli: questo dice il Signore: io [ti] do il partito di tre cose; qualunque tu vuogli, prendi; ch' io la ti darò.
11 So Gad went to David and said, 'Yahweh says this,	11 E venuto Gad a David, e' disse: questo dice il Signore: eleggi qualunque tu vogli.
12 "Take your choice between three years of famine; or three months of disaster at the hands of yourenemies, with your enemies' sword overtaking you; or three days of Yahweh's sword, an epidemic in the country,while the angel of Yahweh wreaks havoc throughout the territory of Israel." Now decide how I am to answer himwho sends me.'	12 O vuogli tre anni fame; ovvero tre mesi fuggire gli tuoi nemici, e non potere scampare dal coltello loro; ovvero tre dì il coltello del Signore, e la morte nella terra, e l'angelo di Dio che uccida in tutte le parti d' Israel; ora vedi quello ch' io rispondo a quegli che mi manda.
13 David said to Gad, 'I am very apprehensive. Better for me to fal into Yahweh's hand, since hismercies are very great, than for me to fal into the hands of human enemies.'	13 E David disse a Gad: da ogni parte [mi] premono le angustie; ma egli è meglio a me, ch' io caggia nelle mani di Dio; però che le sue misericordie sono molte; che nelle mani degli uomini.
14 So Yahweh unleashed an epidemic on Israel, and seventy thousand Israelites succumbed.	14 E mandò Iddio pestilenza in Israel; e morirono LXX milia di uomini.
15 Next, God sent the angel to Jerusalem to destroy it, but as he was about to destroy it, Yahwehlooked down and felt sorry about the calamity; and he said to the destroying angel, 'Enough now! Hold yourhand!' The angel of Yahweh was standing by the threshing-floor of Ornan the Jebusite.	15 E mandò Iddio l'angelo a percuotere in Ierusalem; e percotendosi ella, vidde lo Signore, ed ebbe misericordia sopra il grande male, e comandò all' angelo che feriva: basta, ora cessi la tua mano. E l'angelo istava a lato all' aia d' Ornan Iebuseo.
16 David, raising his eyes, saw the angel of Yahweh standing between earth and heaven, a drawnsword in his hand stretched out towards Jerusalem. David and the elders then put on sackcloth and fel on theirfaces,	16 E levando David gli occhi suoi, vidde l'angelo istare tra il cielo e la terra, e uno coltello isguainato nella sua mano, e volto verso Ierusalem; ed egli e gli maggiori di nazione, vestiti di cilicio, caddero tutti distesi in terra.
17 and David said to God, 'Did I not order the people to be counted? I was the one who sinned andactual y committed the wrong. But these, the flock, what have they done? Yahweh my God, let your hand lieheavy on me and on my family; but spare your people from the plague!'	17 E disse David al Signore: non fui io quegli che comandai che il popolo fosse numerato? Io sono quello che peccai; io sono colui il quale ha fatto il male; questo gregge che ha meritato? Signore mio Iddio, io ti priego che la tua mano si converta a me, e alla casa del padre mio; e non sia percosso il tuo popolo.
18 The angel of Yahweh then ordered Gad to tel David that David should go up and erect an altar toYahweh on the threshing-floor of Ornan the Jebusite.	18 E l'angelo di Dio comandò a Gad, che dicesse a David, che ascendesse, e facesse uno altare nell' aia di Ornan Iebuseo al Signore Iddio.
19 So, at Gad's bidding, given in Yahweh's name, David went up.	19 E ascendeo David secondo la parola di Gad, la quale avea detta per parola di Dio.
20 Ornan had turned round and seen the angel, and he and his four sons with him had hidden.	20 E Ornan e quattro suoi figliuoli, vedendo l'angelo, si nascosero; però che in quello tempo battea il grano nell' aja.
21 When David arrived Ornan was threshing wheat. He looked up and saw David and came off thethreshing-floor and prostrated himself on the ground at David's feet.	21 Donde venendo David a Ornan, ed ello veggendolo, uscigli incontro dell' aja, e adorollo chinato in terra.
22 David then said to Ornan, 'Let me have the site of the threshing-floor, so that I can build an altar toYahweh on it; let me have it at the ful price -- so that the plague may be lifted from the people.' Ornan said toDavid,	22 E disse a lui David: dammi luogo nell' aja tua, acciò ch' io edifichi l'altare a Dio, in tale modo che tu tolga tanto ariento quanto vale, acciò che cessi la piaga del popolo.
23 'Take it, and let my lord the king do what he thinks fit. Look, I shal give you the oxen for burntofferings, the threshing-sleds for the wood and the wheat for the oblation. I shal give everything.'	23 E disse Ornan a David: tolga e faccia il mio Signore re tutto quello che gli piace; e anche doe buoi per fare lo olocausto, e le tribule per legna, e grano per sacrificio; e tutto doe di dono.
24 'No,' said King David to Ornan, 'I insist on buying it at the ful price. I wil not offer Yahweh whatbelongs to you or bring burnt offerings which have cost me nothing.'	24 E disse a lui il re David: non si farà così, ma io ti darò tanto ariento quanto vale; però ch' io non lo debbo torre a te, per offerire al Signore olocausto donato.
25 So David gave Ornan six hundred shekels of gold by weight for the site.	25 E David diede ad Ornan per quello luogo secento sicli d'oro di giusto peso.
26 There David built an altar to Yahweh and brought burnt offerings and peace offerings. He called onYahweh, and Yahweh answered him with fire from heaven on the altar of burnt offering.	26 Ed edificò ivi l'altare al Signore, e offerì olocausti pacifichi al Signore, e invocò Iddio; ed esaudillo in fuoco di cielo sopra l'altare dell' olocausto.
27 Then Yahweh ordered the angel to sheathe his sword.	27 E comandò Iddio all' angiolo; e ritornò il suo coltello nella guaina.
28 Whereupon, seeing that Yahweh had answered him on the threshing-floor of Ornan the Jebusite,David offered sacrifice there.	28 E incontanente, veggendo David, che Iddio l' avea esaudito nell' aia di Ornan Iebuseo, sacrificò ivi vittime.
29 The Dwel ing which Moses had made in the desert and the altar of burnt offering were at that time onthe high place at Gibeon,	29 E il tabernacolo, il quale avea fatto Moisè al Siguore nel deserto, e l'altare dello olocausto, in quella tempesta era nel luogo alto di Gabaon.
30 but David could not go there to consult God because he was terrified of the angel's sword.	30 E non poteo David andare all'altare per pregare ivi Iddio; però ch' egli era troppo isbigottito di paura, veggendo il coltello dell' angelo del Signore Iddio.
