Sirach 51

1 I give you thanks, O God of my father; I praise you, O God my savior! I will make known your name, refuge of my life;	1 Orazione di Gesù Figliuolo di Sirach. Te loderò io, o Signore, e Re, e a te darò gloria, o Dio mio salvatore.
2 you have been my helper against my adversaries. You have saved me from death, and kept back my body from the pit, From the clutches of the nether world you have snatched my feet;	2 Grazie renderò al nome tuo, perché tu se' stato mio ajuto, e mio protettore.
3 you have delivered me, in your great mercy From the scourge of a slanderous tongue, and from lips that went over to falsehood; From the snare of those who watched for my downfall, and from the power of those who sought my life; From many a danger you have saved me,	3 Ed hai liberato il corpo mio dalla perdizione, e dal laccio della lingua perversa, e dalle labbra di quelli, che ordivano menzogne, e in faccia a' miei avversari mi hai dato soccorso.
4 from flames that hemmed me in on every side; From the midst of unremitting fire,	4 E secondo la molta misericordia, onde tu prendi il nome, mi hai liberato da lioni, che ruggivano pronti a divorare,
5 From the deep belly of the nether world; From deceiving lips and painters of lies,	5 Dalle mani di que', che cercavano l'anima mia, e dal cadere nelle tribolazioni, ond'io fui circondato,
6 from the arrows of dishonest tongues. I was at the point of death, my soul was nearing the depths of the nether world;	6 Dalla violenza delle fiamme, tralle quali era rinchiuso, e in mezzo al fuoco non ebbi calore;
7 I turned every way, but there was no one to help me, I looked for one to sustain me, but could find no one.	7 Dal seno profondo dell'inferno, e dalla impura lingua, dalle testimonianze bugiarde, da un re inique, e dalla ingiusta lingua:
8 But then I remembered the mercies of the LORD, his kindness through ages past; For he saves those who take refuge in him, and rescues them from every evil.	8 A Dio darà laude l'anima mia fino alla morte;
9 So I raised my voice from the very earth, from the gates of the nether world, my cry.	9 Perocché la mia vita fu presso a cadere laggiù nell'inferno.
10 I called out: O Lord, you are my father, you are my champion and my savior; Do not abandon me in time of trouble, in the midst of storms and dangers.	10 Mi avean serrato da tutte parti, e non era chi mi porgesse soccorso; mirava se alcun uomo mi desse ajuto, ma ajuto non v'era.
11 I will ever praise your name and be constant in my prayers to you. Thereupon the LORD heard my voice, he listened to my appeal;	11 Mi ricordai di tua misericordia, o Signore, e delle cose fatte da te ab antico:
12 He saved me from evil of every kind and preserved me in time of trouble. For this reason I thank him and I praise him; I bless the name of the LORD.	12 E come tu liberi coloro, cbe te aspettano, e li salvi dalle mani delle nazioni.
13 When I was young and innocent, I sought wisdom.	13 Tu innalzasti la casa mia, sopra la terra, e te io supplicai per la morte, che tutto scioglie.
14 She came to me in her beauty, and until the end I will cultivate her.	14 Io invocai il Signore padre del Signor mio, affinchè non mi abbandoni, senza soccorso nel giorno di mia afflizione, e mentre dominano i superbi.
15 As the blossoms yielded to ripening grapes, the heart's joy, My feet kept to the level path because from earliest youth I was familiar with her.	15 Darò laude al nome tuo, e continuamente il celebrerò con rendimenti di grazie, perché fu esaudita la mia orazione.
16 In the short time I paid heed, I met with great instruction.	16 E mi liberasti dalla perdizione, e mi salvasti dal tempo cattivo.
17 Since in this way I have profited, I will give my teacher grateful praise.	17 Per questo io ti renderò grazie, e a te darò laude, e benedirò il nome del Signore.
18 I became resolutely devoted to her-- the good I persistently strove for.	18 Quand'io era tuttor giovanotto prima di inciampare in errori feci professione di cercar la sapienza colla mia orazione.
19 I burned with desire for her, never turning back. I became preoccupied with her, never weary of extolling her. My hand opened her gate and I came to know her secrets.	19 Io la domandava dinanzi al tempio, come sino all'estremo punto la cercherò; ed ella gettò il suo fiore come l'uva primaticcia.
20 For her I purified my hands; in cleanness I attained to her. At first acquaintance with her, I gained understanding such that I will never forsake her.	20 Il mio cuore trovò in essa il suo gaudio; il mio piede battè la strada diritta; andai in cerca di lei fin dalla giovinezza.
21 My whole being was stirred as I learned about her; therefore I have made her my prize possession.	21 Chinai un poco le mie orecchie, e la ascoltai.
22 The LORD has granted me my lips as a reward, and my tongue will declare his praises.	22 E molta sapienza accolsi nella mia mente, e molto in essa mi avanzai.
23 Come aside to me, you untutored, and take up lodging in the house of instruction;	23 A lui, che mi da la sapienza, io darò gloria.
24 How long will you be deprived of wisdom's food, how long will you endure such bitter thirst?	24 Perocché io mi son risoluto di metterla in pratica; ebbi zelo del bene, e non avronne rossore.
25 I open my mouth and speak of her: gain, at no cost, wisdom for yourselves.	25 Per lei ha combattuto l'anima mia, e mi tengo costante nel seguitarla.
26 Submit your neck to her yoke, that your mind may accept her teaching. For she is close to those who seek her, and the one who is in earnest finds her.	26 Stesi in alto le mie mani, e deplorai la stoltezza di quest'anima.
27 See for yourselves! I have labored only a little, but have found much.	27 Verso di lei dirizzai l'anima mia, e conosciuto (me) la trovai.
28 Acquire but a little instruction; you will win silver and gold through her.	28 Con lei possedei da principio il mio cuore; per questo non sarò abbandonato.
29 Let your spirits rejoice in the mercy of God, and be not ashamed to give him praise.	29 Nel cercar lei le mie viscere soffersero de' turbamenti, per questo possederò un gran bene.
30 Work at your tasks in due season, and in his own time God will give you your reward.	30 Il Signore per min mercede mi ha dato la lingua, ed io con essa a luì darò laude.
	31 Appressatevi a me, o ignoranti, e adunatevi nella casa di istruzione:
	32 Perché tuttora tardate? E che rispondete a questo? le anime vostre son grandemente assetate.
	33 Ho aperta la mia bocca, ed ho parlato: comperate senza spesa,
	34 E piegate al giogo il vostro collo, e l'anima vostra accolga la disciplina; perocché è facile il ritrovarla.
	35 Mirate cogli occhi vostri com'io faticai per un poco, ed ho trovato molta requie.
	36 Abbracciate la disciplina come un gran tesoro d'argento, e possedete con lei molto oro.
	37 Si consoli l'anima vostra nella misericordia di Dio, e lodando lui non sarete confusi.
	38 Fate l'opera vostra per tempo, ed egli darà a voi la mercede vostra a suo tempo.
