| 3 Risguardante il Figliuol suo (fatto a lui del seme di Davidde secondo la carne, | 3 the gospel concerning his Son, who was descended from David according to the flesh |
| 4 Predestinato Figliuolo di Dio per (propria) virtù secondo lo spirito di santificazione per la risurrezione da morte) Gesù Cristo Signor nostro: | 4 and designated Son of God in power according to the Spirit of holiness by his resurrection from the dead, Jesus Christ our Lord, |
| 5 Per cui ricevuto abbiamo la grazia e l'Apostolato presso tutte le genti affinchè alla fede nel nome di lui ubbidiscano, | 5 through whom we have received grace and apostleship to bring about the obedience of faith for the sake of his name among all the nations, |
| 6 Tra le quali siete anche voi chiamati di Gesù Cristo: | 6 including yourselves who are called to belong to Jesus Christ; |
| 7 A tutti que' che sono in Roma, diletti di Dio, chiamati santi: grazia a voi, e pace da Dio padre nostro, e dal Signore Gesù Cristo. | 7 To all God's beloved in Rome, who are called to be saints: Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. |
| 8 E primieramente grazie rendo al mio Dio per Gesù Cristo a riguardo di tutti voi: perché per la vostra fede vien celebrata pel mondo tutto. | 8 First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for all of you, because your faith is proclaimed in all the world. |
| 9 Imperocché è a me testimone Dio cui in servo col mio spirito in evangelizzando il suo figliuolo, come di continuo fo memoria di voi | 9 For God is my witness, whom I serve with my spirit in the gospel of his Son, that without ceasing I mention you always in my prayers, |
| 10 Sempre nelle mie orazioni, chiedendo, che, se mai finalmente una volta mi sia concesso nella volontà di Dio un felice viaggio a voi io ne venga. | 10 asking that somehow by God's will I may now at last succeed in coming to you. |
| 11 Conciossiaché bramo di vedervi, affin di comunicare a voi qualche parte di grazia spirituale per vostro conforto: | 11 For I long to see you, that I may impart to you some spiritual gift to strengthen you, |
| 12 Viene a dire, per consolarmi insieme con voi per la scambievole fede e vostra, e mia. | 12 that is, that we may be mutually encouraged by each other's faith, both yours and mine. |
| 13 Or io non voglio, che siavi ignoto, o fratelli, come feci spesso risoluzione di venir da voi per far qualche frutto anche tra voi, come tra le altre nazioni, ma sono stato fino a quest'ora impedito. | 13 I want you to know, brethren, that I have often intended to come to you (but thus far have been prevented), in order that I may reap some harvest among you as well as among the rest of the Gentiles. |
| 14 Sono debitore ai Greci, e ai Barbari, ai saggi, e agli stolti: | 14 I am under obligation both to Greeks and to barbarians, both to the wise and to the foolish: |
| 15 Cosi (quanto a me) sono pronto ad annunciare il Vangelo anche a voi che siete in Roma. | 15 so I am eager to preach the gospel to you also who are in Rome. |
| 16 Imperocché io non mi vergogno del Vangelo. Conciossiachè egli è virtù di Dio per dar salute ad ogni credente, prima al Giudeo, e poi al Greco. | 16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel: it is the power of God for salvation to every one who has faith, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. |
| 17 Imperocché la giustizia di Dio per esso si manifesta di fede in fede: conforme sta scritto: il giusto vive di fede. | 17 For in it the righteousness of God is revealed through faith for faith; as it is written, "He who through faith is righteous shall live." |
| 18 Imperocché si manifesta l'ira di Dio dal cielo contro ogni empietà, e in giustizia degli uomini, come quegli, i quali la verità di Dio ritengono nell'ingiustizia: | 18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and wickedness of men who by their wickedness suppress the truth. |
| 19 Conciossiachè quello, che di Dio può conoscersi, è in essi manifesto. Dappoiché Dio lo ha ad essi manifestato. | 19 For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. |
| 20 Imperocché le invisibili cose di lui, dopo creato il mondo per le cose fatte comprendendosi, si veggono: anche l'eterna potenza, e il divino essere di lui, onde siano inescusabili. | 20 Ever since the creation of the world his invisible nature, namely, his eternal power and deity, has been clearly perceived in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse; |
| 21 Perché avendo conosciuto Dio, noi glorificarono come Dio né a lui grazie rendettero: ma infatuirono ne' loro pensamenti, e si ottenebrò lo stolto lor cuore: | 21 for although they knew God they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking and their senseless minds were darkened. |
| 22 Imperocché dicendo di esser saggi, diventarono stolti. | 22 Claiming to be wise, they became fools, |
| 23 E cangiarono la gloria dell'incorruttibile Dio per la figura di un simulacro di uomo corruttibile, e di uccelli, e di quadrupedi, e di serpenti. | 23 and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man or birds or animals or reptiles. |
| 24 Per la qual cosa abbandonagli Iddio ai desiderj de' loro cuore, alla immondezza: talmente che disonorassero in se stessi i corpi loro: | 24 Therefore God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, to the dishonoring of their bodies among themselves, |
| 25 Eglino, che cambiarono la verità di Dio per la menzogna: e rendettero onore, e servirono alla creatura piuttosto, che al Creatore, il quale è bene detto ne' secoli. Così sia. | 25 because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed for ever! Amen. |
| 26 Per questo gli diede Dio in balìa di ignominiose passioni. Imperocché le stesse loro donne l'ordine posto dalla natura cambiarono in disordine contrario alla natura. | 26 For this reason God gave them up to dishonorable passions. Their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural, |
| 27 E gli uomini similmente, lasciata la natural unione della donna, ne lor desiderj arsero scambievolmente, facendo cose obbrobriose l'un verso l'altro, e riportando in se stessi la condegna mercede del proprio errore. | 27 and the men likewise gave up natural relations with women and were consumed with passion for one another, men committing shameless acts with men and receiving in their own persons the due penalty for their error. |
| 28 E siccome non si curarono di riconoscer Dio: abbandonogli Iddio a un reprobo senso, onde facciano cosa non convenevoli, | 28 And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God gave them up to a base mind and to improper conduct. |
| 29 Ricolmi di ogni iniquità, di malizia, di fornicazione, di avarizia, di malvagità, pieni di invidia, di omicidio, di discordia, di frode, di malignità, susurroni, | 29 They were filled with all manner of wickedness, evil, covetousness, malice. Full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, malignity, they are gossips, |
| 30 Detrattori, nemici di Dio, oltraggiatori, superbi, millantatori, inventori di male cose, disubbidienti ai genitori, | 30 slanderers, haters of God, insolent, haughty, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents, |
| 31 Stolti, disordinati, senza amore, senza legge, senza compassione. | 31 foolish, faithless, heartless, ruthless. |
| 32 I quali conosciuta avendo la gustizia di Dio, non intesero, come chi fa tali cose, è degno di morte: né solamente chi le fa, ma anche chi approva coloro, che le fanno. | 32 Though they know God's decree that those who do such things deserve to die, they not only do them but approve those who practice them. |
