| 1 OR il re Sedechia, figliuolo di Giosia, regnò in luogo di Conia, figliuolo di Gioiachim, essendo stato costituito re nel paese di Giuda, da Nebucadnezar, re di Babilonia. | 1 Zedekiah the son of Josiah, whom Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon made king in the land of Judah, reigned instead of Coniah the son of Jehoiakim. |
| 2 E nè egli, nè i suoi servitori, nè il popolo del paese, non ubbidirono alle parole del Signore, ch’egli aveva pronunziate per lo profeta Geremia. | 2 But neither he nor his servants nor the people of the land listened to the words of the LORD which he spoke through Jeremiah the prophet. |
| 3 Or il re Sedechia mandò Iucal, figliuolo di Selemia; e Sefania, figliuolo di Maaseia, sacerdote, al profeta Geremia, per dirgli: Deh! fa’ orazione per noi al Signore Iddio nostro. | 3 King Zedekiah sent Jehucal the son of Shelemiah, and Zephaniah the priest, the son of Ma-aseiah, to Jeremiah the prophet, saying, "Pray for us to the LORD our God." |
| 4 Or Geremia andava e veniva per mezzo il popolo, e non era ancora stato messo in prigione. | 4 Now Jeremiah was still going in and out among the people, for he had not yet been put in prison. |
| 5 E l’esercito di Faraone era uscito di Egitto; laonde i Caldei che assediavano Gerusalemme, intesone il grido, si erano dipartiti d’appresso a Gerusalemme. | 5 The army of Pharaoh had come out of Egypt; and when the Chaldeans who were besieging Jerusalem heard news of them, they withdrew from Jerusalem. |
| 6 E la parola del Signore fu indirizzata al profeta Geremia, dicendo: | 6 Then the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah the prophet: |
| 7 Così ha detto il Signore Iddio d’Israele: Dite così al re di Giuda, che vi ha mandati a me, per domandarmi; Ecco, l’esercito di Faraone, ch’era uscito a vostro soccorso, è ritornato nel suo paese, in Egitto. | 7 "Thus says the LORD, God of Israel: Thus shall you say to the king of Judah who sent you to me to inquire of me, 'Behold, Pharaoh's army which came to help you is about to return to Egypt, to its own land. |
| 8 Ed i Caldei torneranno, e combatteranno contro a questa città, e la prenderanno, e l’arderanno col fuoco. | 8 And the Chaldeans shall come back and fight against this city; they shall take it and burn it with fire. |
| 9 Così ha detto il Signore: Non v’ingannate voi stessi, dicendo: Per certo i Caldei si dipartiranno da noi; perciocchè essi non se ne dipartiranno. | 9 Thus says the LORD, Do not deceive yourselves, saying, "The Chaldeans will surely stay away from us," for they will not stay away. |
| 10 Anzi, avvegnachè voi aveste sconfitto tutto l’esercito de’ Caldei, che combattono con voi, e che non ne fossero rimasti se non alcuni pochi, pur si leverebbero quelli, ciascuno nella sua tenda, e brucerebbero questa città col fuoco | 10 For even if you should defeat the whole army of Chaldeans who are fighting against you, and there remained of them only wounded men, every man in his tent, they would rise up and burn this city with fire.'" |
| 11 Or avvenne che quando l’esercito dei Caldei si fu dipartito d’appresso a Gerusalemme, per cagion dell’esercito di Faraone, | 11 Now when the Chaldean army had withdrawn from Jerusalem at the approach of Pharaoh's army, |
| 12 Geremia usciva di Gerusalemme, per andarsene nel paese di Beniamino, per isfuggire di là per mezzo il popolo. | 12 Jeremiah set out from Jerusalem to go to the land of Benjamin to receive his portion there among the people. |
| 13 Ma quando fu alla porta di Beniamino, quivi era un capitano della guardia, il cui nome era Ireia, figliuolo di Selemia, figliuolo di Hanania; il quale prese il profeta Geremia, dicendo: Tu vai ad arrenderti a’ Caldei. | 13 When he was at the Benjamin Gate, a sentry there named Irijah the son of Shelemiah, son of Hananiah, seized Jeremiah the prophet, saying, "You are deserting to the Chaldeans." |
| 14 E Geremia disse: Ciò è falso; io non vo ad arrendermi a’ Caldei. Ma colui non l’ascoltò; anzi, lo prese, e lo menò a’ principi. | 14 And Jeremiah said, "It is false; I am not deserting to the Chaldeans." But Irijah would not listen to him, and seized Jeremiah and brought him to the princes. |
| 15 E i principi si adirarono gravemente contro a Geremia, e lo percossero, e lo misero in prigione, in casa di Gionatan, scriba; perciocchè avevano di quella fatta una carcere. | 15 And the princes were enraged at Jeremiah, and they beat him and imprisoned him in the house of Jonathan the secretary, for it had been made a prison. |
| 16 Quando Geremia fu entrato nella fossa, e nelle grotte, vi dimorò molti giorni. | 16 When Jeremiah had come to the dungeon cells, and remained there many days, |
| 17 Poi il re Sedechia mandò a farlo trare di là: e il re lo domandò in casa sua di nascosto, e disse: Evvi alcuna parola da parte del Signore? E Geremia disse: Sì, ve n’è. Poi disse: Tu sarai dato in mano del re di Babilonia. | 17 King Zedekiah sent for him, and received him. The king questioned him secretly in his house, and said, "Is there any word from the LORD?" Jeremiah said, "There is." Then he said, "You shall be delivered into the hand of the king of Babylon." |
| 18 Oltre a ciò, Geremia disse al re Sedechia: Che peccato ho io commesso contro a te, o contro a’ tuoi servitori, o contro a questo popolo, che voi mi avete messo in prigione? | 18 Jeremiah also said to King Zedekiah, "What wrong have I done to you or your servants or this people, that you have put me in prison? |
| 19 E dove sono ora i vostri profeti, che vi profetizzavano, dicendo: Il re di Babilonia non verrà sopra voi, nè sopra questo paese? | 19 Where are your prophets who prophesied to you, saying, 'The king of Babylon will not come against you and against this land? |
| 20 Or al presente, ascolta, ti prego, o re, mio signore; deh! caggia la mia supplicazione nel tuo cospetto; non farmi ritornar nella casa di Gionatan, scriba, che io non vi muoia. | 20 Now hear, I pray you, O my lord the king: let my humble plea come before you, and do not send me back to the house of Jonathan the secretary, lest I die there." |
| 21 E il re Sedechia comandò che Geremia fosse rinchiuso nella corte della prigione, e che gli fosse dato un pezzo di pane per giorno, dalla piazza de’ fornai; il che fu fatto finchè tutto il pane fu venuto meno nella città. Così Geremia stette nella corte della prigione | 21 So King Zedekiah gave orders, and they committed Jeremiah to the court of the guard; and a loaf of bread was given him daily from the bakers' street, until all the bread of the city was gone. So Jeremiah remained in the court of the guard. |
