Salmi 37

DIODATI	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Salmo di Davide NON crucciarti per cagion de’ maligni; Non portare invidia a quelli che operano perversamente;	1 [Of David] Do not get heated about the wicked or envy those who do wrong.
2 Perciocchè saran di subito ricisi come fieno, E si appasseranno come erbetta verde.	2 Quick as the grass they wither, fading like the green of the fields.
3 Confidati nel Signore, e fa’ bene; Tu abiterai nella terra, e vi pasturerai in confidanza.	3 Put your trust in Yahweh and do right, make your home in the land and live secure.
4 E prendi il tuo diletto nel Signore, Ed egli ti darà le domande del tuo cuore.	4 Make Yahweh your joy and he will give you your heart's desires.
5 Rimetti la tua via nel Signore; E confidati in lui, ed egli farà ciò che bisogna;	5 Commit your destiny to Yahweh, be confident in him, and he wil act,
6 E produrrà fuori la tua giustizia, come la luce; E la tua dirittura, come il mezzodì	6 making your uprightness clear as daylight, and the justice of your cause as the noon.
7 Attendi il Signore in silenzio; Non crucciarti per colui che prospera nella sua via, Per l’uomo che opera scelleratezza.	7 Stay quiet before Yahweh, wait longingly for him, do not get heated over someone who is making afortune, succeeding by devious means.
8 Rimanti dell’ira, e lascia il cruccio; Non isdegnarti, sì veramente, che tu venga a far male.	8 Refrain from anger, leave rage aside, do not get heated -- it can do no good;
9 Perciocchè i maligni saranno sterminati; Ma coloro che sperano nel Signore possederanno la terra.	9 for evil-doers will be annihilated, while those who hope in Yahweh shal have the land for their own.
10 Fra breve spazio l’empio non sarà più; E se tu poni mente al suo luogo, egli non vi sarà più.	10 A little while and the wicked wil be no more, however wel you search for the place, the wicked wilnot be there;
11 Ma i mansueti possederanno la terra, E gioiranno in gran pace.	11 but the poor wil have the land for their own, to enjoy untroubled peace.
12 L’empio fa delle macchinazioni contro al giusto, E digrigna i denti contro a lui.	12 The wicked plots against the upright and gnashes his teeth at him,
13 Il Signore si riderà di lui; Perciocchè egli vede che il suo giorno viene.	13 but Yahweh only laughs at his efforts, knowing that his end is in sight.
14 Gli empi hanno tratta la spada, Ed hanno teso il loro arco, Per abbattere il povero afflitto ed il bisognoso; Per ammazzar quelli che camminano dirittamente.	14 Though the wicked draw his sword and bend his bow to slaughter the honest and bring down thepoor and the needy,
15 La loro spada entrerà loro nel cuore, E gli archi loro saranno rotti.	15 his sword will pierce his own heart, and his bow wil be shattered.
16 Meglio vale il poco del giusto, Che l’abbondanza di molti empi.	16 What little the upright possesses outweighs al the wealth of the wicked;
17 Perciocchè le braccia degli empi saranno rotte; Ma il Signore sostiene i giusti.	17 for the weapons of the wicked shal be shattered, while Yahweh supports the upright.
18 Il Signore conosce i giorni degli uomini intieri; E la loro eredità sarà in eterno.	18 The lives of the just are in Yahweh's care, their birthright wil endure for ever;
19 Essi non saran confusi nel tempo dell’avversità; E saranno saziati nel tempo della fame.	19 they wil not be put to shame when bad times come, in time of famine they wil have plenty.
20 Ma gli empi periranno; Ed i nemici del Signore, come grasso d’agnelli, Saranno consumati, e andranno in fumo	20 The wicked, enemies of Yahweh, wil be destroyed, they wil vanish like the green of the pasture, theywil vanish in smoke.
21 L’empio prende in prestanza, e non rende; Ma il giusto largisce, e dona.	21 The wicked borrows and wil not repay, but the upright is generous in giving;
22 Perciocchè i benedetti dal Signore erederanno la terra; Ma i maledetti da lui saranno sterminati.	22 those he blesses will have the land for their own, and those he curses be annihilated.
23 I passi dell’uomo, la cui via il Signore gradisce, Son da lui addirizzati.	23 Yahweh guides a strong man's steps and keeps them firm; and takes pleasure in him.
24 Se cade, non è però atterrato; Perciocchè il Signore gli sostiene la mano.	24 When he trips he is not thrown sprawling, since Yahweh supports him by the hand.
25 Io sono stato fanciullo, e sono eziandio divenuto vecchio, E non ho veduto il giusto abbandonato, Nè la sua progenie accattare il pane.	25 Now I am old, but ever since my youth I never saw an upright person abandoned, or the descendantsof the upright forced to beg their bread.
26 Egli tuttodì dona e presta; E la sua progenie è in benedizione.	26 The upright is always compassionate, always lending, so his descendants reap a blessing.
27 Ritratti dal male, e fa’ il bene; E tu sarai stanziato in eterno.	27 Turn your back on evil and do good, you wil have a home for ever,
28 Perciocchè il Signore ama la dirittura, E non abbandonerà i suoi santi; Essi saranno conservati in eterno; Ma la progenie degli empi sarà sterminata.	28 for Yahweh loves justice and wil not forsake his faithful. Evil-doers wil perish eternally, thedescendants of the wicked be annihilated,
29 I giusti erederanno la terra; Ed abiteranno in perpetuo sopra essa.	29 but the upright shal have the land for their own, there they shal live for ever.
30 La bocca del giusto risuona sapienza, E la sua lingua pronunzia dirittura.	30 Wisdom comes from the lips of the upright, and his tongue speaks what is right;
31 La Legge dell’Iddio suo è nel suo cuore; I suoi passi non vacilleranno.	31 the law of his God is in his heart, his foot wil never slip.
32 L’empio spia il giusto, E cerca di ucciderlo.	32 The wicked keeps a close eye on the upright, looking out for a chance to kill him;
33 Il Signore non glielo lascerà nelle mani, E non permetterà che sia condannato, quando sarà giudicato	33 Yahweh will never abandon him to the clutches of the wicked, nor let him be condemned if he is tried.
34 Aspetta il Signore, e guarda la sua via, Ed egli t’innalzerà, acciocchè tu eredi la terra; Quando gli empi saranno sterminati, tu lo vedrai.	34 Put your hope in Yahweh, keep to his path, he wil raise you up to make the land your own; you willook on while the wicked are annihilated.
35 Io ho veduto l’empio possente, E che si distendeva come un verde lauro;	35 I have seen the wicked exultant, towering like a cedar of Lebanon.
36 Ma egli è passato via; ed ecco, egli non è più; Ed io l’ho cercato, e non si è ritrovato.	36 When next I passed he was gone, I searched for him and he was nowhere to be found.
37 Guarda l’integrità, e riguarda alla dirittura; Perciocchè vi è mercede per l’uomo di pace.	37 Observe the innocent, consider the honest, for the lover of peace wil not lack children.
38 Ma i trasgressori saranno distrutti tutti quanti; Ogni mercede è ricisa agli empi.	38 But the wicked wil al be destroyed together, and their children annihilated.
39 Ma la salute de’ giusti è dal Signore; Egli è la lor fortezza nel tempo dell’afflizione;	39 The upright have Yahweh for their Saviour, their refuge in times of trouble;
40 Ed il Signore li aiuta e li libera; Li libera dagli empi, e li salva; Perciocchè hanno sperato in lui	40 Yahweh helps them and rescues them, he wil rescue them from the wicked, and save them becausethey take refuge in him.
