1 Čuvši to, kralj Ezekija razdrije svoje haljine, obuče kostrijet i ode u dom Jahvin.1 On hearing this, King Hezekiah tore his clothes, put on sackcloth and went to the Temple of Yahweh.
2 Zatim posla Elijakima, upravitelja dvora, pisara Šebnu i svećeničke starješine, odjevene u kostrijet, k proroku Izaiji, sinu Amosovu.2 He sent Eliakim master of the palace, Shebnah the secretary and the elders of the priests, wearingsackcloth, to the prophet Isaiah son of Amoz.
3 Oni mu rekoše: »Ovako veli Ezekija: ‘Ovo je dan nevolje, kazne i rugla. Prispješe djeca do rođenja, a nema snage da se rode.3 They said to him, 'This is what Hezekiah says, "Today is a day of suffering, of punishment, of disgrace.Children come to birth, and there is no strength to bring them forth.
4 Možda je Jahve, Bog tvoj, čuo što je rekao veliki peharnik koga je asirski kralj, gospodar njegov, poslao da se izruguje Bogu živome i možda će Jahve, Bog tvoj, kazniti riječi koje je čuo! Pomoli se pobožno za Ostatak koji je još preostao.’«4 May Yahweh your God hear the words of the cupbearer-in-chief whom his master, the king of Assyria, has sent to insult the living God, and may Yahweh your God punish the words he has heard. Offer your prayerfor the remnant stil remaining." '
5 Kad su sluge kralja Ezekije stigle k Izaiji,5 King Hezekiah's ministers went to Isaiah,
6 on im reče: »Kažite svome gospodaru: ‘Ovako veli Jahve: Ne boj se riječi koje si čuo kada su na me hulile sluge kralja asirskoga.6 and Isaiah said to them, 'Say to your master, "Yahweh says this: Do not be afraid of the words whichyou have heard or the blasphemies which the king of Assyria's minions have uttered against me.
7 Udahnut ću u njega duh i kad čuje jednu vijest, vratit će se u svoju zemlju. I učinit ću da u svojoj zemlji pogine od mača.’«7 Look, I am going to put a spirit in him and, on the strength of a rumour, he wil go back to his owncountry, and in that country I shall make him fal by the sword." '
8 Veliki peharnik vrati se i nađe asirskoga kralja gdje opsjeda Libnu, jer bijaše čuo da je kralj otišao iz Lakiša.8 The cupbearer turned about and rejoined the king of Assyria, who was then attacking Libnah, as thecupbearer had learnt that the king had already left Lachish
9 Dočuo je, naime, vijest o Tirhaku, kralju etiopskome: »Evo, izašao je da se bori protiv tebe.«
Tada Sanherib ponovno uputi poslanike da kažu Ezekiji:
9 on hearing that Tirhakah king of Cush was on his way to attack him.
10 »Ovako recite judejskom kralju Ezekiji: ‘Neka te ne vara tvoj Bog, u koga se uzdaš, govoreći ti: Jeruzalem neće pasti u ruke asirskog kralja!10 Sennacherib again sent messengers to Hezekiah, saying, 'Tel Hezekiah king of Judah this, "Do notlet your God on whom you are relying deceive you with the promise: Jerusalem wil not fal into the king ofAssyria's clutches.
11 Ti znaš što su asirski kraljevi učinili svim zemljama izručivši ih prokletstvu! A ti, ti li ćeš se spasiti?11 You have learnt by now what the kings of Assyria have done to al the other countries, devoting themto destruction. Are you likely to be saved?
12 Jesu li bogovi spasili narode što su ih uništili moji oci: Gozance, Harane, Resefce i Edence, u Tel Basaru?12 Did the gods of the nations whom my ancestors devastated save them-Gozan, Haran, Rezeph andthe Edenites who were in Tel Basar?
13 Gdje je kralj hamatski, kralj arpadski, kralj Sefarvajima, Hene i Ive?’«13 Where is the king of Hamath, the king of Arpad, the king of Lair, of Sepharvaim, of Hena, of Ivvah?" '
14 Ezekija primi pismo iz ruke poslanikove i pročita ga. Zatim uđe u dom Jahvin i razvi ga ondje pred Jahvom.14 Hezekiah took the letter from the messengers' hands and read it; he then went up to the Temple ofYahweh and spread it out before Yahweh.
15 I pomoli se Ezekija Jahvi ovako: »Jahve, Bože Izraelov, koji stoluješ nad kerubima, ti si Bog jedini nad svim zemaljskim kraljevstvima, ti si stvorio nebo i zemlju.15 Hezekiah said this prayer in the presence of Yahweh, 'Yahweh Sabaoth, God of Israel, enthroned onthe winged creatures, you alone are God of al the kingdoms of the world, you made heaven and earth.
16 Prikloni uho, Jahve, i počuj,
otvori oči, Jahve, i vidi!
Sanheribove čujder riječi
koje poruči da izruga Boga živoga.
16 Give ear, Yahweh, and listen; open your eyes, Yahweh, and see! Hear the words of Sennacherib, who has sent to insult the living God.
17 Istina je, o Jahve, asirski su kraljevi zatrli narode i zemlje njihove;17 It is true, Yahweh, that the kings of Assyria have destroyed the nations,
18 pobacali im u oganj bogove; jer ne bijahu bogovi to, već djela ruku ljudskih, od drveta i kamena; zato ih i uništiše.18 they have thrown their gods on the fire, for these were not gods but human artefacts -- wood andstone -- and hence they have destroyed them.
19 Ali sada, Jahve, Bože naš, izbavi nas iz ruke njegove da spoznaju sva kraljevstva zemlje da si ti, Jahve, Bog jedini.«19 But now, Yahweh our God, save us from his clutches, I beg you, and let all the kingdoms of the worldknow that you alone are God, Yahweh.'
20 Tada Izaija, sin Amosov, poruči Ezekiji: »Ovako veli Jahve, Bog Izraelov: ‘Uslišah molitvu koju mi uputi zbog Sanheriba, kralja asirskog.’20 Isaiah son of Amoz then sent the fol owing message to Hezekiah, 'Yahweh, God of Israel, says this, "Ihave heard the prayer which you have addressed to me about Sennacherib king of Assyria."
21 Evo riječi što je Jahve objavi protiv njega: Prezire te, ruga ti se
djevica, kći sionska;
za tobom maše glavom
kći jeruzalemska.
21 Here is the pronouncement which Yahweh has made about him: "She despises you, she scorns you,the virgin daughter of Zion; she tosses her head at you, the daughter of Jerusalem!
22 Koga si grdio, hulio?
Na koga si glasno vikao,
ohol pogled dizao?
Na Sveca Izraelova!
22 Whom have you insulted, whom have you blasphemed? Against whom raised your voice and liftedyour haughty eyes? Against the Holy One of Israel!
23 Po slugama si svojim vrijeđao Gospoda.
Govorio si: s mnoštvom kola
ja popeh se na vrh gora,
na najviše vrhunce Libanona.
Posjekoh mu cedre najviše
i čemprese ponajljepše.
Dosegoh mu vrh najviši
i vrt njegov šumoviti.
23 Through your envoys you have insulted the Lord, thinking: With my many chariots I have climbed themountain-tops, the utmost peaks of Lebanon. I have fel ed its mighty cedars, its finest cypresses, have reachedits furthest recesses, its forest garden.
24 Kopao sam i pio sam
vode tuđe;
stopalima tad isuših
sve rijeke egipatske.
24 Yes, I have dug and drunk of foreign waters; under the soles of my feet I have dried up al Egypt'srivers.
25 Čuješ li dobro? Odavna
to sam snovao,
od iskona smišljao,
sada to ostvarujem:
na tebi je da prometneš
gradove tvrde u razvaline.
25 "Do you hear? Long ago I prepared this, from days of old I actual y planned it, now I carry it out. Youwere to lay walled cities in heaps of ruins;
26 Stanovnici njini, nemoćni,
prepadnuti i smeteni,
bjehu kao trava u polju,
kao mlado zelenilo,
kao trava vrh krovova
opaljena vjetrom istočnim.
26 that was why their inhabitants, feeble of hand, were dismayed and discomfited, were weak as grass, were frail as plants, were like grass of housetop and meadow under the east wind.
27 Znam kad se dižeš i kad sjedaš,
kad izlaziš i kad se vraćaš.
27 But whether you stand up or you sit down, whether you go out or you come in, I know it.
28 Jer bjesnio si na me
i jer obijest tvoja do ušiju mi dođe,
prsten ću ti provuć’ kroz nozdrve,
uzde stavit’ u žvale,
vratit ću te putem
kojim si i došao!
28 Because you have raved against me, and your arrogance has reached my ears, I shal put a hookthrough your nostrils and a muzzle on your lips, and make you return by the road by which you came.
29 A znak nek’ ti bude ovo:
Ove će se godine jesti što se sámo òkrûnî,
dogodine što samo uzraste,
a treće godine sijte i žanjite,
sadite vinograde, jedite im rod.
29 "And this wil be the sign for you: this year wil be eaten the self-sown grain, next year what sprouts inthe fallow; but in the third year sow and reap, plant vineyards and eat their fruit.
30 Preživjeli iz kuće Judine
žilje će pustit’ u dubinu,
plodom rodit’ u visinu.
30 The surviving remnant of the House of Judah wil bring forth new roots below and fruits above;
31 Jer će iz Jeruzalema izići Ostatak,
Sačuvani s gore Siona.
Sve će to učinit’ ljubomora Jahvina!
31 for a remnant wil issue from Jerusalem, and survivors from Mount Zion. Yahweh Sabaoth's jealouslove wil accomplish this.
32 Zato ovo govori Jahve o kralju asirskom:
‘U ovaj grad on ući neće,
ovamo strijele svoje neće izmetati,
k njemu neće ni štit okrenuti,
niti oko njega nasipe kopati.
32 "This, then, is what Yahweh says about the king of Assyria: "He wil not enter this city, wil shoot noarrow at it, confront it with no shield, throw up no earthwork against it.
33 Vratit će se putem kojim je i došao,
u grad ovaj neće ući’ – Jahvina je riječ.
33 By the road by which he came, by that he wil return; he wil not enter this city, declares Yahweh.
34 ‘Grad ću ovaj štitit’, spasiti ga,
sebe radi i rad’ sluge svoga Davida.’«
34 I shal protect this city and save it for my sake and my servant David's sake." '
35 Te iste noći iziđe anđeo Jahvin i pobi u asirskom taboru stotinu osamdeset i pet tisuća ljudi. Ujutro kad je valjalo ustati, gle, bijahu ondje sve sami mrtvaci.35 That same night the angel of Yahweh went out and struck down a hundred and eighty-five thousandmen in the Assyrian camp. In the early morning when it was time to get up, there they lay, so many corpses.
36 Sanherib podiže tabor i ode. Vratio se u Ninivu.36 Sennacherib struck camp and left; he returned home and stayed in Nineveh.
37 Jednoga dana, dok se klanjao u hramu svoga boga Nisroka, njegovi ga sinovi Adramelek i Sareser ubiše mačem i pobjegoše u zemlju araratsku. Na njegovo se mjesto zakralji sin mu Asar-Hadon.37 One day when he was worshipping in the temple of his god Nisroch, his sons Adrammelech andSharezer struck him down with the sword and escaped into the territory of Ararat. His son Esarhaddonsucceeded him.
