Sirach 32

1 Have they appointed you as a leader? Do not be willing to be extolled. Be among them as one of them.	1 Se' tu fatto capo? non insuperbirti: sii tra di loro, come uno di loro.
2 Have concern for them, and in this way sit down with them, and when you have explained all your concerns, sit back.	2 Abbi cura di essi, e dopo che avrai pienamente soddisfatto all'ufficio tuo, va a metterti a tavola;
3 Then you may rejoice because of them, and you may receive a crown as an adornment of grace, and so obtain the dignity of the assembly.	3 Affinchè eglino siano a te di allegrezza, e per decoroso ornamento tu riceva la corona, e ne ottenga l'onore delle porzioni messe a parte per te.
4 Speak, you who are greater by birth. For it is fitting for you	4 Tu maggiore di età, cui si conviene di essere il primo a parlare, parla
5 to speak the first word with careful knowledge. But you should not hinder the music.	5 Con iscelta dottrina, e non disturbare l'armonia.
6 Where no one is listening, you should not pour out words. And do not choose to be extolled improperly for your wisdom.	6 Dove non è chi ascolti, non buttar via le parole, e non volere a mal tempo far pompa di tua saggezza.
7 A gemstone of garnet is set amid an ornament of gold, and a concert of music is set amid a banquet of wine.	7 Un concerto di musica in un convito, dove si beve, è come un prezioso carbonchio legato in oro.
8 Just as a signet of emerald is set amid a work of gold, so is a melody of music set amid delightful and moderate wine.	8 L'armonia de' cantori col giocondo, e moderato bere, è come uno smeraldo incastrato in anello di oro.
9 Listen silently, and for your reverence, good graces will be added to you.	9 Ascolta in silenzio, e colla tua ritenutezza ti concilierai amore.
10 Young man, speak in your own case only reluctantly.	10 Giovinetto parla al bisogno a mala pena.
11 If you have been asked twice, let your response be concise.	11 Interrogato due volte, ristrìngi in poco la tua risposta.
12 In many matters, be as if you lack knowledge, and listen silently as well as intently.	12 In molte cose diportati come ignorante, e ascolta tacendo, e domandando.
13 In the midst of great men, you should not be presumptuous. And where the elders are present, you should not speak much.	13 In mezzo ai grandi non ti azzardare, e dove sono vecchj, non parlar molto.
14 Lightning goes before a hailstorm, and grace goes before modesty. And so, for your reverence, good graces will be added to you.	14 La grandine è preceduta dal lampo, e la verecondia è preceduta dalla buona grazia, e la tua ritenutezza farà, che tu sii ben veduto.
15 And at the hour for rising, you should not be lax. Later, be the first to run ahead to your house, and there withdraw, and there take your pastime.	15 E quando è tempo di alzarti, non istare a bada: vattene il primo a tua casa, ed ivi divertiti, e scherza,
16 And act according to your intentions, but not in sin and not in arrogant speech.	16 E fa quel, che ti piace, ma senza peccare, o parlar con superbia.
17 And for all these things, bless the Lord, who made you, and who fills you to overflowing with all his good things.	17 E dopo tutto questo benedici il Signore, che ti ha fatto, e ti inebria con tutti i suoi beni.
18 Whoever fears the Lord will accept his doctrine. And whoever watches for him diligently will find a blessing.	18 Chi teme il Signore, abbraccerà gli insegnamenti di lui; e quelli, che di buon mattino lo cercano, troveranno benedizione.
19 Whoever seeks the law will be filled from the law. But whoever acts with treachery will be scandalized by treachery.	19 Chi ama la legge, da lei sarà fatto ricco: ma chi opera con finzione, prenderà da lei occasione di inciampo.
20 Those who fear the Lord will find just judgment, and they will kindle justice like a light.	20 Quelli, che temono il Signore, sapran far giudizio di quello, che è giusto, e la loro giustizia sarà quasi accesa face.
21 A sinful man will shun correction, and he will find a rationalization in accord with his own will.	21 L'uom peccatore fugge la riprensione, e trova de' paragoni secondo la sua volontà.
22 A man of counsel will not reject understanding. A strange and arrogant man will not be disturbed by fear.	22 L'uomo, che ha prudenza, non trascura di ben riflettere: l'uomo, che non ne ha, e il superbo non teme mai nulla;
23 Even so, after he has acted out of fear and without counsel, he will be rebuked by his own criticism.	23 Anche dopo aver operato da se, senza consiglio; ma le sue stesse intra prese il condanneranno.
24 Son, you should do nothing without counsel, and then you will not regret what you have done.	24 Figliuolo, non far cosa veruna senza consiglio, e non avrai da pentirti dopo il fatto.
25 You should not go into the way of ruin, and you then will not stumble on stones. You should not commit yourself to a laborious way; otherwise, you may set up a scandal against your own soul.	25 Non camminare per istrade rovinose, e non inciamperai nei sassi, e non ti impegnare in una strada faticosa per non esporre alle cadale l'anima tua:
26 And be cautious concerning your own sons. And be attentive to those of your own household.	26 Guardati anche da' propri figliuoli, e pon mente alla gente di tua casa.
27 In all of your works, trust your soul to faith. For this is the keeping of the commandments.	27 In ogni opra tua segni la fede dell'anima tua, perché in questo sta l'osservanza de' comandamenti.
28 Whoever believes God attends to the commandments. And whoever trusts in him will not be diminished.	28 Chi è fedele a Dio, è intento a' suoi comandamenti; e chi confida in lui, non iscapiterà.
