But Baldad the Suhite, responding, said:1 Bildad de Súaj tomó la palabra y dijo:
How long will you speak this way, so that the words of your mouth are like a changeable wind?2 ¿Hasta cuándo estarás hablando de ese modo, y un gran viento serán las razones de tu boca?
Does God supplant judgment, or does the Almighty subvert that which is just?3 ¿Acaso Dios tuerce el derecho, Sadday pervierte la justicia?
And if now your children have sinned against him, and he has dismissed them into the power of their iniquity,4 Si tus hijos pecaron contra él, ya los dejó a merced de sus delitos.
even so, you should arise early to God, so as to beseech the Almighty.5 Mas si tú a Dios recurres e imploras a Sadday,
If you approach with purity and honesty, he will quickly be attentive to you, and a peaceful life will repay your righteousness,6 si eres irreprochable y recto, desde ahora él velará sobre ti y restaurará tu morada de justicia.
so much so that, if your former things were small, your latter things would be multiplied greatly.7 Tu pasado parecerá insignificante el lado de tu espléndido futuro.
For inquire of the earliest generation, and investigate diligently the history of the fathers,8 Pregunta, si no, a la generación pasada, medita en la experiencia de sus padres.
(of course, we are but of yesterday and are ignorant that our days on earth are like a shadow,)9 Nosotros de ayer somos y no sabemos nada, como una sombra nuestros días en la tierra.
and they will teach you; they will speak with you and will offer you the eloquence of their hearts.10 Pero ellos te instruirán y te hablarán, y de su corazón sacarán estas máximas:
Can the marsh plant live without moisture? Or can sedges grow without water?11 «¿Brota acaso el papiro sin marismas? ¿Crece sin agua el junco?
When it is still in flower, and has not been pulled up by hand, it withers before all other plants.12 Aún en su verdor, sin ser cortado, antes que toda otra hierba se marchita.
Just so are the ways of all who forget God, and the hope of the hypocrite will perish.13 Tal es el fin de los que a Dios olvidan, así fenece la esperanza del impío.
His frenzy will not please him, and his faith will be like a spider’s web.14 Su confianza es un hilo solamente, su seguridad una tela de araña.
He will lean on his house, and it will not stand; he will prop it up, but it will not rise.15 Se apoya en su morada, y no le aguanta, se agarra a ella y no resiste.
He seems to have moisture before the sun arrives; and at sunrise, his sprout shoots forth.16 Bien regado ante la faz del sol, por encima de su huerto salían sus renuevos.
His roots will crowd together over a heap of stones, and among the stones he will remain.17 Sobre un majano entrelazadas sus raíces, vivía en una casa de piedra.
If someone is devoured right beside him, he will deny him and will say: “I do not know you.”18 Mas cuando se le arranca de su sitio, éste le niega: “¡No te he visto jamás!”
For this is the benefit of his way, that others in turn may spring up from the earth.19 Y vedle ya cómo se pudre en el camino, mientras que del suelo brotan otros.»
God will not discard the simple, nor will he extend his hand to the spiteful,20 No, Dios no rechaza al íntegro, ni da la mano a los malvados.
even until your mouth is filled with laughter and your lips with rejoicing.21 La risa ha de llenar aún tu boca y tus labios el clamor de júbilo.
Those who hate you, will be clothed with confusion, and the tabernacle of the impious will not continue.22 Tus enemigos serán cubiertos de vergüenza, y desaparecerá la tienda de los malos.
