1 But Baldad the Suhite, responding, said:	1 Bildad de Chouah prit la parole et dit:
2 How long will you speak this way, so that the words of your mouth are like a changeable wind?	2 Jusqu’à quand vas-tu prolonger ce discours, et ces paroles, comme un vent qui n’en finit pas?
3 Does God supplant judgment, or does the Almighty subvert that which is just?	3 Dieu est-il capable de tourner la justice? Le Tout-Puissant fausserait-il le droit?
4 And if now your children have sinned against him, and he has dismissed them into the power of their iniquity,	4 Si tes fils ont péché contre lui, il les a fait payer pour leurs fautes.
5 even so, you should arise early to God, so as to beseech the Almighty.	5 Mais si toi tu as recours à Dieu, si tu implores le Tout-Puissant,
6 If you approach with purity and honesty, he will quickly be attentive to you, and a peaceful life will repay your righteousness,	6 si toi, tu es pur et droit, aussitôt il prendra soin de toi pour te mettre en la demeure que mérite ta droiture.
7 so much so that, if your former things were small, your latter things would be multiplied greatly.	7 Le passé te semblera peu de chose tant l’avenir sera meilleur.
8 For inquire of the earliest generation, and investigate diligently the history of the fathers,	8 Demande à l’ancienne génération, et remonte à l’expérience de leurs pères.
9 (of course, we are but of yesterday and are ignorant that our days on earth are like a shadow,)	9 Car nous sommes nés d’hier et ne savons guère, nos jours passent sur terre comme une ombre.
10 and they will teach you; they will speak with you and will offer you the eloquence of their hearts.	10 Mais eux peuvent t’instruire et te parler, et ces quelques mots te diront ce qu’ils sentent:
11 Can the marsh plant live without moisture? Or can sedges grow without water?	11 “Le papyrus va-t-il pousser hors des marais? Le roseau se développera-t-il sans eau?
12 When it is still in flower, and has not been pulled up by hand, it withers before all other plants.	12 Même vert, avant qu’on le coupe avant toute autre plante il se déssèche”.
13 Just so are the ways of all who forget God, and the hope of the hypocrite will perish.	13 C’est ainsi que termine celui qui oublie Dieu, et que se perdent les espoirs de l’impie.
14 His frenzy will not please him, and his faith will be like a spider’s web.	14 Sa confiance s’accrochait à un fil, il faisait fond sur une toile d’araignée.
15 He will lean on his house, and it will not stand; he will prop it up, but it will not rise.	15 Il s’appuie sur sa maison, et elle cède, il s’y accroche: elle s’écroule.
16 He seems to have moisture before the sun arrives; and at sunrise, his sprout shoots forth.	16 Il était plein de vigueur au soleil et couvrait le jardin de ses jeunes pousses:
17 His roots will crowd together over a heap of stones, and among the stones he will remain.	17 ses racines serpentaient sur la pente, elles s’accrochaient entre les roches.
18 If someone is devoured right beside him, he will deny him and will say: “I do not know you.”	18 À peine l’as-tu arraché de sa place, elle le renie: “Je ne t’ai jamais vu!”
19 For this is the benefit of his way, that others in turn may spring up from the earth.	19 Le voilà pourrissant sur le chemin: un autre bientôt est sorti du sol.
20 God will not discard the simple, nor will he extend his hand to the spiteful,	20 Non! Dieu ne méprise pas celui qui est parfait, pas plus qu’il ne soutient ceux qui sont malfaisants.
21 even until your mouth is filled with laughter and your lips with rejoicing.	21 Il remplira encore ta bouche de rires, et mettra sur tes lèvres les cris de joie.
22 Those who hate you, will be clothed with confusion, and the tabernacle of the impious will not continue.	22 Tes ennemis seront couverts de honte, et l’on ne verra plus la demeure des méchants.
