1 The LORD then said to Job:	1 - Prese allora a parlare il Signore a Giobbe dalla procella e disse:
2 Will we have arguing with the Almighty by the critic? Let him who would correct God give answer!	2 «Recingi pur da uomo [forte] i tuoi fianchi, io t'interrogherò e tu ammaestrami.
3 Then Job answered the LORD and said:	3 Renderai tu forse vano il mio diritto, e darai torto a me per aver te ragione?
4 Behold, I am of little account; what can I answer you? I put my hand over my mouth.	4 E se hai un braccio come quello di Dio, e il tuono della tua voce è simile al suo,
5 Though I have spoken once, I will not do so again; though twice, I will do so no more.	5 circondati d'eccellenza e lèvati in alto, sii glorioso e ammantati di magnifiche vesti:
6 Then the LORD addressed Job out of the storm and said:	6 disperdi nel tuo furore i superbi, e ogni altiero che tu veda umilialo:
7 Gird up your loins now, like a man. I will question you, and you tell me the answers!	7 volgi lo sguardo su tutti i superbi e confondili, e infrangi gli empii là ove si trovano;
8 Would you refuse to acknowledge my right? Would you condemn me that you may be justified?	8 nascondili insieme nella polvere, e nella fossa immergi i loro volti;
9 Have you an arm like that of God, or can you thunder with a voice like his?	9 allora anch'io riconosceròche la tua destra ti può salvare!
10 Adorn yourself with grandeur and majesty, and array yourself with glory and splendor.	10 Ecco Behemoth, che io ho fatto insieme con te: erba come un bove esso mangia;
11 Let loose the fury of your wrath;	11 la sua forza sta nei suoi fianchi, la sua vigoria nell'ombelico del suo ventre.
12 tear down the wicked and shatter them. Bring down the haughty with a glance;	12 Indura esso la sua coda come un cedro, i tendini delle sue cosce sono avviluppati;
13 bury them in the dust together; in the hidden world imprison them.	13 le sue ossa sono come canne di bronzo, la sua cartilagine come lamine di ferro.
14 Then will I too acknowledge that your own right hand can save you.	14 Esso è il primo dei prodotti di Dio; chi lo ha fatto, lo domina con la sua spada.
15 See, besides you I made Behemoth, that feeds on grass like an ox.	15 Ad esso i monti forniscono le erbe, là ove scherzano tutte le bestie del campo.
16 Behold the strength in his loins, and his vigor in the sinews of his belly.	16 Sotto l'ombra esso dorme, nell'interno dei canneti e nei luoghi paludosi;
17 He carries his tail like a cedar; the sinews of his thighs are like cables.	17 lo ricoprono i loti con la loro ombra, e lo circondano i salici da torrente.
18 His bones are like tubes of bronze; his frame is like iron rods.	18 Ecco, esso tracanna un fiume senza scomporsi, e rimane tranquillo anche se il Giordano irrompa contro il suo muso.
19 He came at the beginning of God's ways, and was made the taskmaster of his fellows;	19 Chi mai potrà abbrancarlo tra le occhiaie con un amo, e con lesine forerà le sue narici?
20 For the produce of the mountains is brought to him, and of all wild animals he makes sport.	20 Forse potrai estrarre con l'amo Leviathan, e con una fune legherai tu la sua lingua?
21 Under the lotus trees he lies, in coverts of the reedy swamp.	21 Metterai tu forse un anello alle sue narici, e con un gancio gli bucherai la mascella?
22 The lotus trees cover him with their shade; all about him are the poplars on the bank.	22 Si metterà esso forse con insistenza a pregarti, ovvero ti rivolgerà parole tenere?
23 If the river grows violent, he is not disturbed; he is tranquil though the torrent surges about his mouth.	23 Stringerà forse con te un patto, perchè tu lo prenda qual servo per sempre?
24 Who can capture him by his eyes, or pierce his nose with a trap?	24 Giocheresti forse con lui come con un uccello, o gli metteresti un laccio per [trastullar] le tue ancelle?
25 Can you lead about Leviathan with a hook, or curb his tongue with a bit?	25 Lo squarteranno forse i soci [della pesca], lo taglieranno i venditori [di pesce]?
26 Can you put a rope into his nose, or pierce through his cheek with a gaff?	26 Potresti tu riempir le reti con la sua pelle, e il cesto dei pesci con la sua testa?
27 Will he then plead with you, time after time, or address you with tender words?	27 Mettigli la tua mano addosso: preparati alla guerra, e non parlar più!
28 Will he make an agreement with you that you may have him as a slave forever?	28 Infatti, la speranza di chi [gli dà la caccia] rimane delusa, perchè sotto gli occhi di tutti costui sarà atterrato.
29 Can you play with him, as with a bird? Can you put him in leash for your maidens?
30 Will the traders bargain for him? Will the merchants divide him up?
31 Can you fill his hide with barbs, or his head with fish spears?
32 Once you but lay a hand upon him, no need to recall any other conflict!
