1 The elder unto the wellbeloved Gaius, whom I love in the truth.	1 Presbyter Gaio carissimo, quem ego diligo in veritate.
2 Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.	2 Carissime, in omnibus exopto prospere te agere et valere, sicut prospere agitanima tua.
3 For I rejoiced greatly, when the brethren came and testified of the truth that is in thee, even as thou walkest in the truth.	3 Nam gavisus sum valde, venientibus fratribus et testimoniumperhibentibus veritati tuae, quomodo tu in veritate ambules.
4 I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.	4 Maius horum nonhabeo gaudium, quam ut audiam filios meos in veritate ambulare.
5 Beloved, thou doest faithfully whatsoever thou doest to the brethren, and to strangers;	5 Carissime, fideliter facis, quidquid operaris in fratres et hoc in peregrinos,
6 Which have borne witness of thy charity before the church: whom if thou bring forward on their journey after a godly sort, thou shalt do well:	6 qui testimonium reddiderunt caritati tuae in conspectu ecclesiae. Bene faciessubveniens illis in via digne Deo;
7 Because that for his name's sake they went forth, taking nothing of the Gentiles.	7 pro nomine enim profecti sunt, nihilaccipientes a gentilibus.
8 We therefore ought to receive such, that we might be fellowhelpers to the truth.	8 Nos ergo debemus sublevare huiusmodi, utcooperatores simus veritatis.
9 I wrote unto the church: but Diotrephes, who loveth to have the preeminence among them, receiveth us not.	9 Scripsi aliquid ecclesiae; sed is qui amat primatum gerere in eis, Diotrephes,non recipit nos.
10 Wherefore, if I come, I will remember his deeds which he doeth, prating against us with malicious words: and not content therewith, neither doth he himself receive the brethren, and forbiddeth them that would, and casteth them out of the church.	10 Propter hoc, si venero, commonebo eius opera, quae facitverbis malignis garriens in nos; et quasi non ei ista sufficiant, nec ipsesuscipit fratres et eos, qui cu piunt, prohibet et de ecclesia eicit.
11 Beloved, follow not that which is evil, but that which is good. He that doeth good is of God: but he that doeth evil hath not seen God.	11 Carissime, noli imitari malum, sed quod bonum est. Qui benefacit, ex Deo est;qui malefacit, non vidit Deum.
12 Demetrius hath good report of all men, and of the truth itself: yea, and we also bear record; and ye know that our record is true.	12 Demetrio testimonium redditur ab omnibus et ab ipsa veritate; sed et nostestimonium perhibemus, et scis quoniam testimonium nostrum verum est.
13 I had many things to write, but I will not with ink and pen write unto thee:	13 Multa habui scribere tibi, sed nolo per atramentum et calamum scribere tibi;
14 But I trust I shall shortly see thee, and we shall speak face to face.	14 spero autem protinus te videre, et os ad os loquemur.
15 Peace be to thee. Our friends salute thee. Greet the friends by name.	15 Pax tibi. Salutant te amici. Saluta amicos nominatim.
