| 1 Quiconque croit que Jésus est le Christ est né de Dieu; et quiconque aime celui qui a engendré aimecelui qui est né de lui. | 1 Every one who believes that Jesus is the Christ is a child of God, and every one who loves the parent loves the child. |
| 2 Nous reconnaissons que nous aimons les enfants de Dieu à ce que nous aimons Dieu et que nouspratiquons ses commandements. | 2 By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and obey his commandments. |
| 3 Car l'amour de Dieu consiste à garder ses commandements. | 3 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments. And his commandments are not burdensome. |
| 4 Et ses commandements ne sont pas pesants, puisque tout ce qui est né de Dieu est vainqueur dumonde. Et telle est la victoire qui a triomphé du monde: notre foi. | 4 For whatever is born of God overcomes the world; and this is the victory that overcomes the world, our faith. |
| 5 Quel est le vainqueur du monde, sinon celui qui croit que Jésus est le Fils de Dieu? | 5 Who is it that overcomes the world but he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God? |
| 6 C'est lui qui est venu par eau et par sang: Jésus Christ, non avec l'eau seulement mais avec l'eau etavec le sang. Et c'est l'Esprit qui rend témoignage, parce que l'Esprit est la Vérité. | 6 This is he who came by water and blood, Jesus Christ, not with the water only but with the water and the blood. |
| 7 Il y en a ainsi trois à témoigner: | 7 And the Spirit is the witness, because the Spirit is the truth. |
| 8 l'Esprit, l'eau, le sang, et ces trois tendent au même but. | 8 There are three witnesses, the Spirit, the water, and the blood; and these three agree. |
| 9 Si nous recevons le témoignage des hommes, le témoignage de Dieu est plus grand. Car c'est letémoignage de Dieu, le témoignage que Dieu a rendu à son Fils. | 9 If we receive the testimony of men, the testimony of God is greater; for this is the testimony of God that he has borne witness to his Son. |
| 10 Celui qui croit au Fils de Dieu a ce témoignage en lui. Celui qui ne croit pas en Dieu fait de lui unmenteur, puisqu'il ne croit pas au témoignage que Dieu a rendu à son Fils. | 10 He who believes in the Son of God has the testimony in himself. He who does not believe God has made him a liar, because he has not believed in the testimony that God has borne to his Son. |
| 11 Et voici ce témoignage: c'est que Dieu nous a donné la vie éternelle et que cette vie est dans sonFils. | 11 And this is the testimony, that God gave us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. |
| 12 Qui a le Fils a la vie; qui n'a pas le Fils n'a pas la vie. | 12 He who has the Son has life; he who has not the Son of God has not life. |
| 13 Je vous ai écrit ces choses, à vous qui croyez au nom du Fils de Dieu, pour que vous sachiez quevous avez la vie éternelle. | 13 I write this to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life. |
| 14 Nous avons en Dieu cette assurance que, si nous demandons quelque chose selon sa volonté, il nousécoute. | 14 And this is the confidence which we have in him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us. |
| 15 Et si nous savons qu'il nous écoute en tout ce que nous lui demandons, nous savons que nouspossédons ce que nous lui avons demandé. | 15 And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have obtained the requests made of him. |
| 16 Quelqu'un voit-il son frère commettre un péché ne conduisant pas à la mort, qu'il prie et Dieudonnera la vie à ce frère. Il ne s'agit pas de ceux qui commettent le péché conduisant à la mort; car il y a unpéché qui conduit à la mort, pour ce péché-là, je ne dis pas qu'il faut prier. | 16 If any one sees his brother committing what is not a mortal sin, he will ask, and God will give him life for those whose sin is not mortal. There is sin which is mortal; I do not say that one is to pray for that. |
| 17 Toute iniquité est péché mais il y a tel péché qui ne conduit pas à la mort. | 17 All wrongdoing is sin, but there is sin which is not mortal. |
| 18 Nous savons que quiconque est né de Dieu ne pèche pas; l'Engendré de Dieu le garde et le Mauvaisn'a pas prise sur lui. | 18 We know that any one born of God does not sin, but He who was born of God keeps him, and the evil one does not touch him. |
| 19 Nous savons que nous sommes de Dieu et que le monde entier gît au pouvoir du Mauvais. | 19 We know that we are of God, and the whole world is in the power of the evil one. |
| 20 Nous savons que le Fils de Dieu est venu et qu'il nous a donné l'intelligence afin que nousconnaissions le Véritable. Nous sommes dans le Véritable, dans son Fils Jésus Christ. Celui-ci est le Dieuvéritable et la Vie éternelle. | 20 And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, to know him who is true; and we are in him who is true, in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God and eternal life. |
| 21 Petits enfants, gardez-vous des idoles... | 21 Little children, keep yourselves from idols. |
