Épître aux Éphésiens 1

JERUSALEM	DOUAI-RHEIMS
1 Paul, apôtre du Christ Jésus, par la volonté de Dieu, aux saints et fidèles dans le Christ Jésus.	1 Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ, by the will of God, to all the saints who are at Ephesus, and to the faithful in Christ Jesus.
2 A vous grâce et paix de par Dieu notre Père et le Seigneur Jésus Christ.	2 Grace be to you, and peace from God the Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ.
3 Béni soit le Dieu et Père de notre Seigneur Jésus Christ, qui nous a bénis par toutes sortes debénédictions spirituelles, aux cieux, dans le Christ.	3 Blessed by the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with spiritual blessings in heavenly places, in Christ:
4 C'est ainsi qu'Il nous a élus en lui, dès avant la fondation du monde, pour être saints et immaculésen sa présence, dans l'amour,	4 As he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and unspotted in his sight in charity.
5 déterminant d'avance que nous serions pour Lui des fils adoptifs par Jésus Christ. Tel fut le bonplaisir de sa volonté,	5 Who hath predestinated us unto the adoption of children through Jesus Christ unto himself: according to the purpose of his will:
6 à la louange de gloire de sa grâce, dont Il nous a gratifiés dans le Bien-Aimé.	6 Unto the praise of the glory of his grace, in which he hath graced us in his beloved son.
7 En lui nous trouvons la rédemption, par son sang, la rémission des fautes, selon la richesse de sagrâce,	7 In whom we have redemption through his blood, the remission of sins, according to the riches of his grace,
8 qu'Il nous a prodiguée, en toute sagesse et intelligence:	8 Which hath superabounded in us in all wisdom and prudence,
9 Il nous a fait connaître le mystère de sa volonté, ce dessein bienveillant qu'Il avait formé en luipar avance,	9 That he might make known unto us the mystery of his will, according to his good pleasure, which he hath purposed in him,
10 pour le réaliser quand les temps seraient accomplis: ramener toutes choses sous un seul Chef, leChrist, les êtres célestes comme les terrestres.	10 In the dispensation of the fulness of times, to re-establish all things in Christ, that are in heaven and on earth, in him.
11 C'est en lui encore que nous avons été mis à part, désignés d'avance, selon le plan préétabli deCelui qui mène toutes choses au gré de sa volonté,	11 In whom we also are called by lot, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things according to the counsel of his will.
12 pour être, à la louange de sa gloire, ceux qui ont par avance espéré dans le Christ.	12 That we may be unto the praise of his glory, we who before hoped Christ:
13 C'est en lui que vous aussi, après avoir entendu la Parole de vérité, l'Evangile de votre salut, et yavoir cru, vous avez été marqués d'un sceau par l'Esprit de la Promesse, cet Esprit Saint	13 In whom you also, after you had heard the word of truth, (the gospel of your salvation;) in whom also believing, you were signed with the holy Spirit of promise,
14 qui constitue les arrhes de notre héritage, et prépare la rédemption du Peuple que Dieu s'estacquis, pour la louange de sa gloire.	14 Who is the pledge of our inheritance, unto the redemption of acquisition, unto the praise of his glory.
15 C'est pourquoi moi-même, ayant appris votre foi dans le Seigneur Jésus et votre charité à l'égardde tous les saints,	15 Wherefore I also, hearing of your faith that is in the Lord Jesus, and of your love towards all the saints,
16 je ne cesse de rendre grâces à votre sujet et de faire mémoire de vous dans mes prières.	16 Cease not to give thanks for you, making commemoration of you in my prayers,
17 Daigne le Dieu de notre Seigneur Jésus Christ, le Père de la gloire, vous donner un esprit desagesse et de révélation, qui vous le fasse vraiment connaître!	17 That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and of revelation, in the knowledge of him:
18 Puisse-t-il illuminer les yeux de votre coeur pour vous faire voir quelle espérance vous ouvreson appel, quels trésors de gloire renferme son héritage parmi les saints,	18 The eyes of your heart enlightened, that you may know what the hope is of the glory of his inheritance in the saints.
19 et quelle extraordinaire grandeur sa puissance revêt pour nous, les croyants, selon la vigueur desa force,	19 And what is the exceeding greatness of his power towards us, who believe according to the operation of the might of his power,
20 qu'il a déployée en la personne du Christ, le ressuscitant d'entre les morts et le faisant siéger à sadroite, dans les cieux,	20 Which he wrought in Christ, raising him up from the dead, and setting him on his right hand in the heavenly places.
21 bien au-dessus de toute Principauté, Puissance, Vertu, Seigneurie, et de tout autre nom qui sepourra nommer, non seulement dans ce siècle-ci, mais encore dans le siècle à venir.	21 Above all principality, and power, and virtue, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come.
22 Il a tout mis sous ses pieds, et l'a constitué, au sommet de tout, Tête pour l'Eglise,	22 And he hath subjected all things under his feet, and hath made him head over all the church,
23 laquelle est son Corps, la Plénitude de Celui qui est rempli, tout en tout.	23 Which is his body, and the fulness of him who is filled all in all.
