JERUSALEM	DOUAI-RHEIMS
1 Avant la fête de la Pâque, Jésus, sachant que son heure était venue de passer de ce monde vers le Père,ayant aimé les siens qui étaient dans le monde, les aima jusqu'à la fin.	1 Before the festival day of the pasch, Jesus knowing that his hour was come, that he should pass out of this world to the Father: having loved his own who were in the world, he loved them unto the end.
2 Au cours d'un repas, alors que déjà le diable avait mis au coeur de Judas Iscariote, fils de Simon, ledessein de le livrer,	2 And when supper was done, (the devil having now put into the heart of Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon, to betray him,)
3 sachant que le Père lui avait tout remis entre les mains et qu'il était venu de Dieu et qu'il s'en allaitvers Dieu,	3 Knowing that the Father had given him all things into his hands, and that he came from God, and goeth to God;
4 il se lève de table, dépose ses vêtements, et prenant un linge, il s'en ceignit.	4 He riseth from supper, and layeth aside his garments, and having taken a towel, girded himself.
5 Puis il met de l'eau dans un bassin et il commença à laver les pieds des disciples et à les essuyer avecle linge dont il était ceint.	5 After that, he putteth water into a basin, and began to wash the feet of the disciples, and to wipe them with the towel wherewith he was girded.
6 Il vient donc à Simon-Pierre, qui lui dit: "Seigneur, toi, me laver les pieds?"	6 He cometh therefore to Simon Peter. And Peter saith to him: Lord, dost thou wash my feet?
7 Jésus lui répondit: "Ce que je fais, tu ne le sais pas à présent; par la suite tu comprendras."	7 Jesus answered, and said to him: What I do thou knowest not now; but thou shalt know hereafter.
8 Pierre lui dit: "Non, tu ne me laveras pas les pieds, jamais!" Jésus lui répondit: "Si je ne te lave pas, tun'as pas de part avec moi."	8 Peter saith to him: Thou shalt never wash my feet. Jesus answered him: If I wash thee not, thou shalt have no part with me.
9 Simon-Pierre lui dit: "Seigneur, pas seulement les pieds, mais aussi les mains et la tête!"	9 Simon Peter saith to him: Lord, not only my feet, but also my hands and my head.
10 Jésus lui dit: "Qui s'est baigné n'a pas besoin de se laver; il est pur tout entier. Vous aussi, vous êtespurs; mais pas tous."	10 Jesus saith to him: He that is washed, needeth not but to wash his feet, but is clean wholly. And you are clean, but not all.
11 Il connaissait en effet celui qui le livrait; voilà pourquoi il dit: "Vous n'êtes pas tous purs."	11 For he knew who he was that would betray him; therefore he said: You are not all clean.
12 Quand il leur eut lavé les pieds, qu'il eut repris ses vêtements et se fut remis à table, il leur dit:"Comprenez-vous ce que je vous ai fait?	12 Then after he had washed their feet, and taken his garments, being set down again, he said to them: Know you what I have done to you?
13 Vous m'appelez Maître et Seigneur, et vous dites bien, car je le suis.	13 You call me Master, and Lord; and you say well, for so I am.
14 Si donc je vous ai lavé les pieds, moi le Seigneur et le Maître, vous aussi vous devez vous laver lespieds les uns aux autres.	14 If then I being your Lord and Master, have washed your feet; you also ought to wash one another's feet.
15 Car c'est un exemple que je vous ai donné, pour que vous fassiez, vous aussi, comme moi j'ai faitpour vous.	15 For I have given you an example, that as I have done to you, so you do also.
16 En vérité, en vérité, je vous le dis, le serviteur n'est pas plus grand que son maître, ni l'envoyé plusgrand que celui qui l'a envoyé.	16 Amen, amen I say to you: The servant is not greater than his lord; neither is the apostle greater than he that sent him.
17 Sachant cela, heureux êtes-vous, si vous le faites.	17 If you know these things, you shall be blessed if you do them.
18 Ce n'est pas de vous tous que je parle; je connais ceux que j'ai choisis; mais il faut que l'Ecritures'accomplisse: Celui qui mange mon pain a levé contre moi son talon.	18 I speak not of you all: I know whom I have chosen. But that the scripture may be fulfilled: He that eateth bread with me, shall lift up his heel against me.
19 Je vous le dis, dès à présent, avant que la chose n'arrive, pour qu'une fois celle-ci arrivée, vouscroyiez que Je Suis.	19 At present I tell you, before it come to pass: that when it shall come to pass, you may believe that I am he.
20 En vérité, en vérité, je vous le dis, qui accueille celui que j'aurai envoyé m'accueille; et quim'accueille, accueille celui qui m'a envoyé."	20 Amen, amen I say to you, he that receiveth whomsoever I send, receiveth me; and he that receiveth me, receiveth him that sent me.
21 Ayant dit cela, Jésus fut troublé en son esprit et il attesta: "En vérité, en vérité, je vous le dis, l'un devous me livrera."	21 When Jesus had said these things, he was troubled in spirit; and he testified, and said: Amen, amen I say to you, one of you shall betray me.
22 Les disciples se regardaient les uns les autres, ne sachant de qui il parlait.	22 The disciples therefore looked one upon another, doubting of whom he spoke.
23 Un de ses disciples, celui que Jésus aimait, se trouvait à table tout contre Jésus.	23 Now there was leaning on Jesus' bosom one of his disciples, whom Jesus loved.
24 Simon-Pierre lui fait signe et lui dit: "Demande quel est celui dont il parle."	24 Simon Peter therefore beckoned to him, and said to him: Who is it of whom he speaketh?
25 Celui-ci, se penchant alors vers la poitrine de Jésus, lui dit: "Seigneur, qui est-ce?"	25 He therefore, leaning on the breast of Jesus, saith to him: Lord, who is it?
26 Jésus répond: "C'est celui à qui je donnerai la bouchée que je vais tremper." Trempant alors labouchée, il la prend et la donne à Judas, fils de Simon Iscariote.	26 Jesus answered: He it is to whom I shall reach bread dipped. And when he had dipped the bread, he gave it to Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon.
27 Après la bouchée, alors Satan entra en lui. Jésus lui dit donc: "Ce que tu fais, fais-le vite."	27 And after the morsel, Satan entered into him. And Jesus said to him: That which thou dost, do quickly.
28 Mais cela, aucun parmi les convives ne comprit pourquoi il le lui disait.	28 Now no man at the table knew to what purpose he said this unto him.
29 Comme Judas tenait la bourse, certains pensaient que Jésus voulait lui dire: "Achète ce dont nousavons besoin pour la fête", ou qu'il donnât quelque chose aux pauvres.	29 For some thought, because Judas had the purse, that Jesus had said to him: Buy those things which we have need of for the festival day: or that he should give something to the poor.
30 Aussitôt la bouchée prise, il sortit; il faisait nuit.	30 He therefore having received the morsel, went out immediately. And it was night.
31 Quand il fut sorti, Jésus dit: "Maintenant le Fils de l'homme a été glorifié et Dieu a été glorifié en lui.	31 When he therefore was gone out, Jesus said: Now is the Son of man glorified, and God is glorified in him.
32 Si Dieu a été glorifié en lui, Dieu aussi le glorifiera en lui-même et c'est aussitôt qu'il le glorifiera.	32 If God be glorified in him, God also will glorify him in himself; and immediately will he glorify him.
33 Petits enfants, c'est pour peu de temps que je suis encore avec vous. Vous me chercherez, et commeje l'ai dit aux Juifs: où je vais, vous ne pouvez venir, à vous aussi je le dis à présent.	33 Little children, yet a little while I am with you. You shall seek me; and as I said to the Jews: Whither I go you cannot come; so I say to you now.
34 Je vous donne un commandement nouveau: vous aimer les uns les autres; comme je vous ai aimés,aimez-vous les uns les autres.	34 A new commandment I give unto you: That you love one another, as I have loved you, that you also love one another.
35 A ceci tous reconnaîtront que vous êtes mes disciples: si vous avez de l'amour les uns pour lesautres."	35 By this shall all men know that you are my disciples, if you have love one for another.
36 Simon-Pierre lui dit: "Seigneur, où vas-tu?" Jésus lui répondit: "Où je vais, tu ne peux pas me suivremaintenant; mais tu me suivras plus tard."	36 Simon Peter saith to him: Lord, whither goest thou? Jesus answered: Whither I go, thou canst not follow me now; but thou shalt follow hereafter.
37 Pierre lui dit: "Pourquoi ne puis-je pas te suivre à présent? Je donnerai ma vie pour toi."	37 Peter saith to him: Why cannot I follow thee now? I will lay down my life for thee.
38 Jésus répond: "Tu donneras ta vie pour moi? En vérité, en vérité, je te le dis, le coq ne chantera pasque tu ne m'aies renié trois fois.	38 Jesus answered him: Wilt thou lay down thy life for me? Amen, amen I say to thee, the cock shall not crow, till thou deny me thrice.
