| 1 Alors s'approchèrent les filles de Celophehad. Celui-ci était fils de Hépher, fils de Galaad, fils deMakir, fils de Manassé; il était des clans de Manassé, fils de Joseph. Voici les noms de ses filles: Mahla, Noa,Hogla, Milka et Tirça. | 1 Then drew near the daughters of Zelophehad the son of Hepher, son of Gilead, son of Machir, son of Manasseh, from the families of Manasseh the son of Joseph. The names of his daughters were: Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Tirzah. |
| 2 Elles se présentèrent devant Moïse, devant Eléazar le prêtre, devant les princes et toute lacommunauté, à l'entrée de la Tente du Rendez-vous et elles dirent: | 2 And they stood before Moses, and before Eleazar the priest, and before the leaders and all the congregation, at the door of the tent of meeting, saying, |
| 3 "Notre père est mort dans le désert. Il n'était pas du parti qui se forma contre Yahvé, du parti deCoré; c'est pour son propre péché qu'il est mort sans avoir eu de fils. | 3 "Our father died in the wilderness; he was not among the company of those who gathered themselves together against the LORD in the company of Korah, but died for his own sin; and he had no sons. |
| 4 Pourquoi le nom de notre père disparaîtrait-il de son clan? Puisqu'il n'a pas eu de fils, donne-nousun domaine au milieu des frères de notre père." | 4 Why should the name of our father be taken away from his family, because he had no son? Give to us a possession among our father's brethren." |
| 5 Moïse porta leur cas devant Yahvé | 5 Moses brought their case before the LORD. |
| 6 et Yahvé parla à Moïse. Il dit: | 6 And the LORD said to Moses, |
| 7 "Les filles de Celophehad ont parlé juste. Tu leur donneras donc un domaine qui sera leurhéritage au milieu des frères de leur père; tu leur transmettras l'héritage de leur père. | 7 "The daughters of Zelophehad are right; you shall give them possession of an inheritance among their father's brethren and cause the inheritance of their father to pass to them. |
| 8 Puis tu parleras ainsi aux Israélites: Si un homme meurt sans avoir eu de fils, vous transmettrezson héritage à sa fille. | 8 And you shall say to the people of Israel, 'If a man dies, and has no son, then you shall cause his inheritance to pass to his daughter. |
| 9 S'il n'a pas de fille, vous donnerez son héritage à ses frères. | 9 And if he has no daughter, then you shall give his inheritance to his brothers. |
| 10 S'il n'a pas de frères, vous donnerez son héritage aux frères de son père. | 10 And if he has no brothers, then you shall give his inheritance to his father's brothers. |
| 11 Si son père n'a pas de frères, vous donnerez son héritage à celui de son clan qui est son plusproche parent: il en prendra possession. Ce sera là pour les Israélites une règle de droit, comme Yahvé l'aordonné à Moïse." | 11 And if his father has no brothers, then you shall give his inheritance to his kinsman that is next to him of his family, and he shall possess it. And it shall be to the people of Israel a statute and ordinance, as the LORD commanded Moses.'" |
| 12 Yahvé dit à Moïse: "Monte sur cette montagne de la chaîne des Abarim, et regarde le pays quej'ai donné aux Israélites. | 12 The LORD said to Moses, "Go up into this mountain of Abarim, and see the land which I have given to the people of Israel. |
| 13 Lorsque tu l'auras regardé, tu seras réuni aux tiens, comme Aaron, ton frère. | 13 And when you have seen it, you also shall be gathered to your people, as your brother Aaron was gathered, |
| 14 Car vous avez été rebelles dans le désert de Cîn, lorsque la communauté me chercha querelle,quand je vous commandai de manifester devant elle ma sainteté, par l'eau." (Ce sont les eaux de Meriba deCadès, dans le désert de Cîn.) | 14 because you rebelled against my word in the wilderness of Zin during the strife of the congregation, to sanctify me at the waters before their eyes." (These are the waters of Meribah of Kadesh in the wilderness of Zin.) |
| 15 Moïse parla à Yahvé et dit: | 15 Moses said to the LORD, |
| 16 "Que Yahvé, Dieu des esprits qui animent toute chair, établisse sur cette communauté unhomme | 16 "Let the LORD, the God of the spirits of all flesh, appoint a man over the congregation, |
| 17 qui sorte et rentre à leur tête, qui les fasse sortir et rentrer, pour que la communauté de Yahvé nesoit pas comme un troupeau sans pasteur." | 17 who shall go out before them and come in before them, who shall lead them out and bring them in; that the congregation of the LORD may not be as sheep which have no shepherd." |
| 18 Yahvé répondit à Moïse: "Prends Josué, fils de Nûn, homme en qui demeure l'esprit. Tu luiimposeras la main. | 18 And the LORD said to Moses, "Take Joshua the son of Nun, a man in whom is the spirit, and lay your hand upon him; |
| 19 Puis tu le feras venir devant Eléazar, le prêtre, et toute la communauté, pour lui donner devanteux tes ordres | 19 cause him to stand before Eleazar the priest and all the congregation, and you shall commission him in their sight. |
| 20 et lui transmettre une part de ta dignité, afin que toute la communauté des Israélites lui obéisse. | 20 You shall invest him with some of your authority, that all the congregation of the people of Israel may obey. |
| 21 Il se tiendra devant Eléazar le prêtre, qui consultera pour lui selon le rite de l'Urim, devantYahvé. C'est sur son ordre que sortiront et rentreront avec lui tous les Israélites, toute la communauté." | 21 And he shall stand before Eleazar the priest, who shall inquire for him by the judgment of the Urim before the LORD; at his word they shall go out, and at his word they shall come in, both he and all the people of Israel with him, the whole congregation." |
| 22 Moïse fit comme Yahvé l'avait ordonné. Il prit Josué, le fit venir devant Eléazar, le prêtre, ettoute la communauté, | 22 And Moses did as the LORD commanded him; he took Joshua and caused him to stand before Eleazar the priest and the whole congregation, |
| 23 il lui imposa la main et lui donna ses ordres, comme Yahvé l'avait dit par l'intermédiaire deMoïse. | 23 and he laid his hands upon him, and commissioned him as the LORD directed through Moses. |
