Livre de Jérémie 8

JERUSALEM	CATHOLIC PUBLIC DOMAIN
1 En ce temps-là - oracle de Yahvé - on tirera de leurs tombes les ossements des rois de Juda, lesossements de ses princes, les ossements des prêtres, les ossements des prophètes et les ossements des habitantsde Jérusalem.	1 “In that time, says the Lord, they will cast out the bones of the kings of Judah, and the bones of its leaders, and the bones of the priests, and the bones of the prophets, and the bones of those who were living in Jerusalem, from their graves.
2 On les étalera devant le soleil, la lune et toute l'armée du ciel, qu'ils ont aimés et servis, suivis etconsultés, devant lesquels ils se sont prosternés. Ils ne seront ni recueillis ni enterrés; ils resteront sur le sol enguise de fumier.	2 And they will spread them out before the sun and the moon and the entire army of the heavens, which they have loved, and served, and followed, and which they have sought and adored. They will not be collected, and they will not be buried. They will be like manure upon the face of the earth.
3 Et la mort vaudra mieux que la vie pour tous ceux qui resteront de cette race perverse, en tous lieuxoù je les aurai chassés, oracle de Yahvé Sabaot.	3 And they will greatly prefer death to life: all those who will have been left from this wicked kindred, in all the forsaken places to which I will cast them out, says the Lord of hosts.
4 Tu leur diras: Ainsi parle Yahvé. Fait-on une chute sans se relever? Se détourne-t-on sans retour?	4 And you will say to them: Thus says the Lord: He who falls, will he not rise again? And he who has been turned away, will he not return?
5 Pourquoi ce peuple-là est-il rebelle, pourquoi Jérusalem est-elle continuellement rebelle? Ilstiennent fermement à la tromperie, ils refusent de se convertir.	5 Then why have this people in Jerusalem turned away with a contentious loathing? They have taken hold of what is false, and they are not willing to return.
6 J'ai écouté attentivement: ils ne parlent pas dans ce sens-là. Nul ne déplore sa méchanceté en disant:"Qu'ai-je fait?" Tous retournent à leur course, tel un cheval qui fonce au combat.	6 I paid close attention and I listened carefully. No one is speaking what is good. There is no one who does penance for his sin, saying: ‘What have I done?’ They have all turned to their own course, like a horse rushing with fury into battle.
7 Même la cigogne dans le ciel connaît sa saison, la tourterelle, l'hirondelle et la grue observent letemps de leur migration. Mais mon peuple ne connaît pas le droit de Yahvé!	7 The hawk in the heavens has known her time. The turtledove, and the swallow, and the stork have kept the time of their arrival. But my people have not known the judgment of the Lord.
8 Comment pouvez-vous dire: "Nous sommes sages et la Loi de Yahvé est avec nous!" Vraiment c'esten mensonge que l'a changée le calame mensonger des scribes!	8 How can you say: ‘We are wise, and the law of the Lord is with us?’ Truly, the lying pen of the scribes has wrought falsehood.
9 Les sages seront honteux, consternés et pris au piège. Voilà qu'ils ont méprisé la parole de Yahvé!Qu'est donc la sagesse pour eux?	9 The wise men have been confounded; they were terrified and captured. For they cast aside the word of the Lord, and there is no wisdom in them.
10 Aussi donnerai-je leurs femmes à d'autres, leurs champs à de nouveaux maîtres. Car du plus petitau plus grand, tous sont avides de rapines; prophète comme prêtre, tous ils pratiquent le mensonge.	10 Because of this, I will give their wives to outsiders and their fields to others as an inheritance. For from the least, even to the greatest, they all pursue avarice; from the prophet, even to the priest, they all act with deceit.
11 Ils pansent à la légère la blessure de la fille de mon peuple, en disant: "Paix! Paix!" alors qu'il n'y apoint de paix.	11 And they healed the destruction of the daughter of my people with disgrace, by saying: ‘Peace, peace,’ though there was no peace.
12 Les voilà dans la honte par leurs actes abominables, mais déjà ils ne sentent plus la honte, ils nesavent plus rougir. Aussi tomberont-ils parmi ceux qui tombent, ils trébucheront quand je les visiterai, dit Yahvé.	12 They have been confounded because they committed abomination. Or rather, they have not been confounded with shame, for they do not know how to blush. For this reason, they will fall among the fallen. In the time of their visitation, they will fall, says the Lord.
13 Je vais les supprimer - oracle de Yahvé - plus de raisins à la vigne, plus de figues au figuier, mêmele feuillage se flétrit: je leur ai fourni des gens qui les piétinent! -	13 When gathering, I will gather them together, says the Lord. There are no grapes on the vine, and there are no figs on the fig tree. The leaves have fallen. And I have given them the things that have passed away.”
14 "Pourquoi restons-nous tranquilles? Rassemblement! Gagnons nos villes fortifiées pour y êtreréduits au silence, puisque Yahvé notre Dieu nous réduit au silence et nous abreuve d'eau empoisonnée, parceque nous avons péché contre lui.	14 “Why are we sitting still? Assemble, and let us enter the fortified city, and let us remain silent there. For the Lord our God has brought us to silence, and he has given us the water of gall as a drink. For we have sinned against the Lord.
15 Nous espérions la paix: rien de bon! le temps de la guérison: voici l'épouvante!	15 We expected peace, but there was nothing good. We expected a time of health, and behold, dread.”
16 Depuis Dan on perçoit le hennissement de ses chevaux; au cri retentissant de ses étalons toute laterre est ébranlée: ils viennent dévorer le pays et ses biens, la ville et ses habitants" -	16 “From Dan, the snorting of his horses was heard; the entire land was shaken by the voice of the neighing of his fighters. And they arrived and devoured the land and its plenitude, the city and its inhabitants.
17 Oui, voici que j'envoie contre vous des serpents venimeux, contre lesquels il n'existe pas decharme, et ils vous mordront, oracle de Yahvé.	17 For behold, I will send among you serpents, king snakes, against which there is no charm, and they will bite you, says the Lord.
18 Sans remède, la peine m'envahit, le coeur me manque.	18 My sorrow is beyond sorrow; my heart mourns within me.
19 Voici l'appel au secours de la fille de mon peuple, depuis une terre aux vastes étendues. "Yahvén'est donc plus en Sion? Son Roi n'y est-il plus? (Pourquoi m'ont-ils irrité par leurs idoles, par ces vanités venuesde l'étranger?)	19 Behold, the voice of the daughter of my people from a far away land. Is the Lord not with Zion, and is her king not within her? Then why have they provoked me to wrath by their graven images, and by their strange vanities?
20 La moisson est passée, l'été est fini, et nous ne sommes pas sauvés!"	20 The harvest has passed by, the summer is at an end, and we have not been saved.
21 De la blessure de la fille de mon peuple je suis blessé, je reste accablé, l'épouvante me tient.	21 Over the destruction of the daughter of my people, I am contrite and saddened; astonishment has taken hold of me.
22 N'y a-t-il plus de baume en Galaad? N'y a-t-il là aucun médecin? Oui, pourquoi ne fait-elle aucunprogrès, la guérison de la fille de mon peuple?	22 Is there no balm in Gilead? Or is there no physician there? Then why has the wound of the daughter of my people not been closed?”
23 Qui changera ma tête en fontaine et mes yeux en source de larmes, que je pleure jour et nuit lestués de la fille de mon peuple!
